Pod

All rights reserved.

Marine biologists at Inlet Bay keep data on the groups, or pods, of

dolphins that visit the Bay. The Bay water is murky and since the
dolphins in a pod do not surface to breathe at the same time, getting
an accurate count is difficult. By attaching electronic tags to some
members of each pod, the biologists are able to get more accurate
counts. The table below shows data from observations of nine pods.
Use the information to estimate the population of each pod.

Use your answers to find out how dolphins navigate.

Dolphins navigate by using ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ .

1. The average spent by customers in the sample is $52, so the
average amount spent by all customers is likely close to $52.
2. 55% of customers in the sample spent more than $50, so it is
likely that about 55% of all customers spend more than $50.

3. 40% of customers in the sample spent less than $40, so it is likely
