CHAPTER I
PREFACE
A. Background
Oil is the main source of energy nowadays. It is used widely in many aspects
of human life. Industries, transportations, even the daily activities of our life need
this kind of energy. It cannot be denied that oil has been integrated to our life.
Because of that, the oil industry really needs petroleum engineering who can answer
this challenge in enhancing the recovery of oil. Students as the candidate of
petroleum engineering must be prepared in order to be able to find solutions for
many problems which occurred rapidly in this industry.
Before going to the real workplace, student should feel how the real
condition in the workplace is. By getting involved in the real workplace, student may
prepare him/herself, including communication skill, team work skill, leadership,
and many others. Besides that, student needs to learn how to be a good person in
managing time because time management determines the productivity and
effectiveness of our work.
Beside, with a practical training, student can observe, compare and apply
directly what he/she has learned in the university to the real workplace. Student
may also get a bunch of new knowledge related to the petroleum.
According to those reasons above, students of Department of

Petroleum

Engineering have an obligation to carry out a practical training in order to be a

better, well-prepared and skillful graduate student. In the other hand, it could be a
good event for the company to search new human sources which fulfill the
qualification.
Based on that thinking, I want to apply a practical training program to your
company, and I hope that the company would accept my proposal. I am sure that my
knowledge could be applied in this company.

B. Purpose
The objectives of this practical training are:
1.

To fulfill a graduation requirement of Petroleum Engineering Department.

2.

To get a chance to observe, compare, and apply directly theories learned in the
university to the real condition in petroleum industry.

3.

To know the competence of Bachelor of Petroleum Undergraduate that industry

needs.

4.

To get a new experience and get more knowledge about processes that occurs in
petroleum industry.

5.

To understand and get used to the working environment.

C. Benefit
After carrying out this practical training, I hope that I get more knowledge
about Petroleum Engineering. I realize that, theories without practices will not give
the best result. By joining this practical training I believe that my understanding
about Petroleum Engineering will be better than before. I think that this event could
be my big motivation to be more diligent and spirit full to reach my dream to be a
great Petroleum Engineer. Besides, it can be my best chance to improve my soft
skills like leadership, communication skills and team work which is really needed in
the work place. Lastly, I am sure that there are a bunch of advantages that I will get
if I join this practical training.

CHAPTER II
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
A. PLACE OF PRACTICAL TRAINING
The practical training would be held in P.T. Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Riau.

B. TIME OF PRACTICAL TRAINING

I apply for the practical training program that will be held from June to July
2014 and for company consideration, here is my schedule in this second semester of
2013 -2014.
20st January until 20th May 2014

: Regular lecture time

25th May until the beginning of August 2014

: Holiday time (allocated for

practical training program)

C. CONTENTS
The content of the practical training program is decided by P.T. Chevron
Pacific Indonesia. The content of practical training program is better if related to
Petroleum Engineering practice, such as Production, Drilling, and Reservoir
Engineering. But, it is possible if P.T. Chevron Pacific Indonesia would give other
knowledge as long as it is related to Petroleum Engineering application.

D. METHODS
The learning methods in this practical training that I would like to have are
learning and observing typical cases occurred in the field. Besides that, I would like
to learn the softwares of petroleum engineering used in PT. Chevron Pacific
Indonesia.

CHAPTER III
CLOSING
This is my proposal to apply for a practical training program in P.T.
Chevron Pacific Indonesia. Im looking forward hearing from you. For your
consideration, I enclose some relevant documents like CV, transcript, and
recommendation letter from my department. Considering my limitations, I hope
that P.T. Chevron Pacific Indonesia could give me some supports below during
the practical training:
1. Guidance during the practical training.
2. Facilitation to do observation and to take the necessary data I need.
3. Accommodation as a place to stay during the program.
As an additional information, I have ask some engineers there to be my
tutor guide and I have got a confirmation from Mr. Yudi Rahman.
I hope you will consider this proposal and grant me an opportunity to join
a practical training program at P.T. Chevron Indonesia.
