What is the problem stated in the article concerning energy?

What is the cause of the problem?
How the problem was solved/How can this problem be solved as stated in the article?
Do you think the solution stated in article can solve the problem on energy?
Given the chance to solve the problem, suggest 1 concrete way to solve it based on what
you have learned in the discussion. Your suggestion should be specific, measurable, and
attainable, results focus and time bound.
BATAAN NUCLEAR POWERPLANT: REOPEN IT OR NOT?

1. In the article, it is stated that the problem is the foreign investors cannot be assured of
sufficient, steady and inexpensive electricity for their operations.

2. Some industrial processes are so sensitive that a flicker is enough to disturb the assembly
line, compromise product quality, result in missed deliveries and add to losses. Also, in
this generation cost of 5.45 per kilowatt-hour, it is reportedly the second highest, if not
the highest, in the region.
3. The problem could be addressed by Pangasinan Rep. Mark O. Cojuangco, a fierce
advocate of nuclear power, for he argued for the restarting of the $2.2-billion Bataan
Nuclear Power Plant - possibly at a cost of $1 billion so it can contribute cheaper
electricity to the national grid. Cojuangco together with his fellow legislators,
businessmen and opinion leaders, tries to convince the people that the BNPP must be
rehabilititated for it is safe to operate, and can cut down electricity cost drastically.
4. This could solve the problem since this article clearly defends that BNPP can generate

electricity for only P2.50 per kilowatt-hour compared to the P5.45 average of the power
mix streaming through the national grid and retailed at something like P12 per kwh after
distribution and other costs are added.
1. In our opinion, it is acceptable to reopen the Bataan Nuclear Powerplant since the
government already invested a lot of money in order to construct the BNNP. This may
also be one of the ways in order to improve our country since it could provide us cheaper
electricity. But before implementing this, they should disseminate enough information
about the powerplant along with the expected effects when this powerplant will reoperate.
Through this, the fear of the public that it may cause disasters would somehow diminish
and the trust the people would be gained by proponents of this project. Also, if this
nuclear powerplant will be left in idle then not only the money but also the effort of the
government in building the BNPP will be put into waste.

LAWMAKER SUPPORTS CALL FOR MASSIVE INSTALLATION OF SOLAR ROOF

1. The problem of this article was exposed by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and
Industry. They stated that the island of Mindanao could experience inevitable power
outages for the next three years.
2. As stated in the article, the cause of the problem is due to the exceeding demand of
increasing power supplies.
3. In this article, it was said that this project may be solved by the massive installation of
solar panels here in the Philippines for it can be an immediate way to deal with the
countrys energy problems especially in terms of solar energy.
4. This problem may be solved by the installation of solar roofs because this could help our
country in alleviating pollution and global warming. The Philippines may not also depend
from the fossil fuels that our country is importing to support our needs in having energy
sources which means there would be less government expenditures. This may also pave
way for the promotion of energy stability and job creation and through these advantages;
the economy of our country may improve since there would be more jobs and less
expenses and burden to the electricity consumers and government.
5. This problem could be solved through the implementation of the proposed plans of the
lawmakers. However, legislators must see to it that this project should be put into practice
by having careful investigation on the possible effects of the installation of solar roofs
especially to the people and if ever there is would be a problem, they should see to it that
they could address and solve it. In the article, Casio also encourages the use of small
solar power systems in residences and offices where the solar power technologys
portability and flexibility can be maximized. These steps shall be supported by the
Filipinos since it could lead us for the betterment of our country and the burden of paying
high electricity bills may not be one of the major problems of the citizens.
THE AUTOGAS JEEPNEY HITS THE ROAD
1. Stated in the article, the main problem of this article is having a poor fuel economy which
makes jeepneys as an expensive kind of transport. Anoter problem is that it is becoming a
big source of pollution which is not good not only to the environment, but also to the
people.
2. It is said that as diesel prices increases, the fare also increases which jeepney rides may
possibly no longer be affordable.
3. One solution is the using of Autogas. GO LPG, a Filipino company, is starting an agenda
to promote the use of Autogas (LPG) in jeepneys, which the company promises cleaner,
more efficient and cheaper-to-run vehicles in the future. Its objective is to encourage the

jeepneys to be provided with an Autogas-powered engine or, alternatively, to offer a

brand-new cassis or framework and body fitted with the Autogas engine.
4. Yes, the solution in the article can solve the problem because it is stated that the Autogas
jeepneys could bring major environmental and cost savings. Soot emissions from Autogas
are nil and emissions of most other pollutants are much lower, because the fuel burns
more completely and more cleanly. Fuel economy with modern Autogas systems are
higher and, under the current tax system, Autogas is cheaper: it currently sells for about
33 pesos per litre at the pump, compared with about 44 pesos for diesel. Gasoline is much
more expensive.
5. The pair would suggest to test if there would be any consequences that our government or
the people would face if operating autogas jeepneys would be supported. Enough
knowledge about the autogas jeepneys should also be specified for the publics
information.
