Acting Captain's Log, Stardate 104752.14.

Lieutenant Kyle Troi Riker speaking.

Today, I have the sad solemn duty to log that, despite Lt. Waldeck and the away team's best
efforts, we've lost two shipmates. I don't take their losses lightly, even if we were in a better
situation. Crewman Vor Ran and Cadet Thelev served Captain th'Ressa and myself with
distinction, courage, honor and professionalism beyond their call of duty and beyond anything
that it is expected from a Starfleet officer. It is, in my personal and professional opinion, that they
deserve a Starfleet Award of Valor. Their names will forever be linked with our story and
the Quasar's.
After the away team arrived from the Sphere, I ordered Mr. Harm'Agar to take us out of the
anomaly zone. Fortunately, the Sphere's implosion was harmless, and we were clear of any
explosion that may had occurred.
Mr. Dae detected in our long-range sensors a nearby star system that included three planets,
one inhabitable, and one mysterious unknown object. The system's star is unstable, releasing
powerful and probably dangerous solar pulses every six hours, according to Mr. Harm'Agar
calculations. His ability with scientific matters is becoming quite useful since the loss of our chief
science officer.
Even with the pressing matter of we returning home, a journey of more than one hundred years
at maximum warp in our current ship, I ordered Mr. Harm'Agar to approach the unknown object.
It was revealed as a ship, a massive and extremely old ship, but we were not alone.
We have been greeted by unknown aliens in enormous salvage vessels. They identified
themselves as the I'Lanea, threatening anyone who challenged their claim over the ship. After
hearing advice from my bridge officers and Mr. Resik, I decided to offer help, in exchange from a
small part of their claim. That small part was actually an unknown form of energy, probably
propulsion, detected by Dae. With low readings even Waldeck couldn't confirm that it was
actually a warp engine, but before we had a chance, the I'Lanea were pursuing us, claiming
the Quasar's crew as their new slaves.
A subwarp chase followed, with them breaking pursuit after they pushed us out of the system. At
that point, I made a choice to try to understand more about that propulsion system. Waldeck and
Mr. Zur-ick, the Tactical officer, dissuaded me from a more blunt approach. However, Harm'Agar
proposed that we've launched a probe towards the ship. With Waldeck's technical modifications
in making the probe smaller, with lesser emissions and more maneuverable, Harm'Agar could fly
remotely the probe inside the massive ship, which would gave us a better understanding about
how it worked.
However, this decision wasn't an easy one: there is the risk of the I'Lanea ships detecting the
probe and interpreting it as a sign of aggression or attempt theft. Their weapon systems and
warp drives, even if they are jury-rigged, are better than ours. But it is of my belief that, even

with the risk, we should take it, because we have a long journey home and every opportunity
should be explored.
We will launch the probe minutes before a solar pulse, to mask its approach from the I'Lanea's
sensors. I just hope that Harm'Agar's and Waldeck's skills do pay off.
Riker out.
Supplemental: This first uncharted system that we've explored with myself as the Quasar's
captain will be called Thelev, and its habitable planet Vor Ran, in honor of our dead comrades.
