Background information: A fulllime program assistant is projected fo be needed by in mid-February at Aux Sable Elementary School, due fo the 9 and 4M grade resource classroom reaching 8 students with a special education teacher. As you know, special education class sizes are mandated by 23 linois Administrative Code 226.735, which states that special education classrooms cannot exceed eight students with a teacher and thirteen students with a teacher and a program assistant. They provide energy for our students to make it from meal-to-meal during the school day without experiencing hunger that can adversely affect their learning abilities. The District encourages students to bring a snack to school in order to avoid these energy slumps. ‘The District encourages that snacks brought to school be healthy. Snacks that will be eaten in the classroom must be peanut/nut free to protect students with special dietary considerations. Beverages are limited to water. Teachers are allowed to use food, healthy snacks and provide treats to stulents as part of educational lessons and projects, or as classroom rewards and ‘motivational tools. if a teacher wishes to do this, the teacher must provide parents with notice and must receive perent permission before using or providing food, snacks or treats for students in the classroom. The PTO may also provide food, drinks, snacks or treats to students during designated holiday parties or as part of PTO events for the students. Parents ‘must be given notice and must grant permission before the PTO may providesuch food, drinks, snacks or treats to the students. ‘The Superintendent shall establish procedures to implement this policy.
