Richard Ings

Richard Ings has worked in the cultural sector for


over 25 years, initially as a funder and since 1991 as
an independent writer, researcher, evaluator, editor,
lecturer and consultant.
His clients have included the national and regional offices of Arts Council
Writing,
research and
England, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation,
the National Youth Agency, CapeUK , Artswork, Lewisham Education Arts
Network, NESTA , Creative Partnerships, the Conference of Drama Schools,
the Thames Valley Partnership, the National Youth Theatre, the Clod Ensemble,

arts consultancy
Protein Dance, the Roundhouse, the Grassmarket Project, LIFT, People’s Palace
Projects and Glyndebourne.

His commissions have been equally wide-ranging, as these examples suggest:


• editing and contributing to the first book on pricing in the arts
• publishing action research on improving the teaching of writing in primary school
• editing magazines on community dance, youth arts and arts education
• evaluating the impact of a knife crime awareness drama.

Apart from his expertise in evaluating, promoting and disseminating good practice
across the arts in print, on the web and through conference presentations, Richard
has a strong academic track record. He has taught on arts management courses
and is currently an associate lecturer at the University of the Arts. He has also run
his own courses and seminars on visual culture and American Studies, most recently
in the School of American and Canadian Studies at the University of Nottingham.
