Course Synopsis Generally the course coverage include topics ranging from managing
projects within an organizational context, including the processes related to
initiating, planning, executing, controlling, reporting, and closing a project.
Specific topics include project integration, scope, time, cost, quality control,
human resource, communication, risk management and project
procurement. By examining the common pitfalls of managing project –
scheduling, budgetary constraints, fulfilment of design specifications –
within the context of information systems and incorporating the use of
Microsoft Project, this course offers a practical introduction to project
management with an information systems focus.

Course The main objectives of this course are as follows:


Objectives
1. To create awareness on the importance of project management
2. To provide students with a view of projects as systems, along with
tools to facilitate project planning and implementation
3. To highlight the importance of human factors in information
systems projects
4. To discuss process issues involved in all project phases.
Learning After completing this course, the student should be able to:
Outcomes
1. Demonstrate knowledge in understanding the concept of project and
project management processes using PMBOK framework.
2. Apply project management concepts by working on a team project
as project manager or active team member.
3. Use Project Management software (e.g. Microsoft Project 2003) and
other software to help plan and manage a project.
4. Prepare a personal e-portfolio reflecting the learning process
captured throughout the course.
5. Develop technical writing, teamwork, and demonstrates good oral
presentation skills.
6. Develop continuous emphasis on the importance of good project
management by sharing examples of good and bad project
management and apply knowledge and skills developed in this class
in other settings.
