Strings Classes

Specific Rules for Strings:
1). Participant is responsible for his/her own accompanist as required.
2). All students will be grouped by age. Please specify on the entry form Junior A (10 and under), Junior B (14
and under), Intermediate (17 and under), Senior (28 and under), or Adult (more than 29). This rule supersedes
General Rule definitions.

Syllabus.
Definitions:
4). Classical: any piece in a graded Syllabus such as Suzuki Violin or the Royal Conservatory.
5). Diverse: Sacred, Popular, Musicals, Country, Ethnic. Does not include fiddling.
6). Fiddling: Celtic, Old-time, Cajun, or Other recognized fiddle styles.
7). Concerto: a piece played on the stringed instrument with condensed orchestral score played on the piano.
8). Sight Reading: to read at first sight a piece deemed appropriate for the performers age and grade level,
chosen by the adjudicator.
9). Original Composition: twenty-four bars or more written on musical manuscript paper in black ink and
received by the Chairperson(s) no later than a week prior to the Festival date. This may be played by the
composer, or adjudicated solely on the written work.

Solo- may enter more than once. $8 through grade 5; $10 through grade 8; $12 grade 9 and higher and
adult. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
S0- Beginner Year One Solo
S1- Beginner Year Two Solo
S2- Grade One Solo
S3- Grade 2 Solo
S4- Grade 3 Solo
S5 Grade 4 Solo
S6- Grade 5 Solo

S7- Grade 6 Solo


S8- Grade 7 Solo
S9- Grade 8 Solo
S10- Grade 9 Solo
S11- Grade 10 Solo
S 12- ARCT Solo
S13- Suzuki Book One Solo
S14- Suzuki Book Two Solo
S15- Suzuki Book Three Solo
S16- Adult Solo

Classical Concert Group- $8 /selection through grade 5; $10/selection through grade 8; $12/selection
grade 9 and higher and adult. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
S17- Under 14, two or three contrasting selections, 10 minutes
S18- Under 17, two or three contrasting selections, 15 minutes
S19- Under 28-, two or three contrasting sections, 20 minutes
S20- Adult, two or three contrasting selections, 25 minutes

Diverse Solo- may enter more than once. $8/selection through grade 5; $10/selection through grade 8;
$12/selection grade 9 and higher and adult. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
S21- Under 14
S22- Intermediate
S23- Senior
S24- Adult

Canadian Solo- may enter more than once. $8/selection through grade 5; $10/selection through grade 8;
$12/selection grade 9 and higher and adult.
S25- Under 14
S26- Intermediate
S27- Senior
S28- Adult

Old Time Fiddling/Celtic Fiddling- may enter more than once. Please use contrasting selections if
entering more than one piece. $8/selection through grade 5; $10/selection through grade 8; $12/selection
grade 9 and higher and adult. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
S29- Beginner
S30- Under 14
S31- Intermediate
S32- Senior
S33- Adult

Duet- may enter more than once. $10 through grade 5; $12 through grade 8; $15 grade 9 and higher and
adult. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
S34- Same grade, beginner
S35- Under 14
S36- Intermediate
S37- Senior
S38- Adult
S39- mixed levels, under 14 (fee from lower grade)
S40- mixed levels, Intermediate (fee from lower grade)
S41- mixed levels, Senior (fee from lower grade)
S42- mixed levels, adult (fee from lower grade)
S43- student/teacher (fee from lower grade)

Trio and Quartet-may enter more than once. $12 through grade 5; $15 through grade 8; $18 grade 9 and
higher and adult. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
S44- beginner, under 14
S45- under 14

S49- mixed level, under 14 (fee from lower grade)


S50- mixed level, Intermediate (fee from lower grade)
S51- mixed level, Senior (fee from lower level)

Ensemble-may enter more than once. $20 per entry any age/level. Please state Junior A, B, or C.
