This Weeks Scope

Bible Story: Agents of K.I.N.D. (Barnabas and Saul) Acts 9:26-30
Bottom Line: Be kind to people who arent kind to you.
Memory Verse: Do to others as you want them to do to you. Luke 6:31, NIrV
Life App: Kindnessshowing others they are valuable by how you treat them.
Basic Truth: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

This week, were discovering:

Acts 9:26-30, where we find out that Saul, the guy whose main goal in life was to wipe out Jesus
followers, had recently met Jesus and started believing in Him. Its no surprise that when he went to
meet with Jesus followers, they had a hard time trusting that his story was real. But Barnabas took a
risk. He chose to believe Sauls story and helped the rest of the disciples accept Saul as well. Barnabas
is a great example for us and helps us discover that we should show kindness to people who arent
kind to us.
Bottom Line: Be kind to people who arent kind to you. There will be people who wont always be
nice to you, but that doesnt mean you cant try to show kindness to them. We hope kids see that they
can be kind even if people arent kind in return.
Our memory verse is Luke 6:31, Do to others as you want them to do to you. (NIrV) This simple
verse is a great reminder of what Jesus said about kindness. We would want others to show kindness
towards us, so its important that we turn around and show kindness to them as well.

Mar 4th - You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor. Hate your enemy. But here is what I
tell you. Love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. Matthew 5:43-44, NIrV

Small Group: Welcome

Gather your children in a circle and take attendance. As you ask them their name, if they brought their
Bible, if they remembered their memory verse and if they brought a friend to church to also ask about
their week. What exciting things they did?
Kids will earn KCash points as follows:
10pts Attendance
10pts Brought their Bible
20pts Memorized their memory verse.
100pts For each First Time Visitor
Please remember to turn in your attendance sheet to Alex before going to your first rotation.
KCash store will be open following service however the kids must have their parents with them to claim
their points.
Convo starters: Ask them about some of the more challenging parts of their week, such as: Did you
get into an argument with someone? Was anyone unkind to you? What happened? What did you do
about it? Have you ever been mad at someone only to find out it wasnt really a big deal at all? (Note:
As kids are sharing, make sure they dont use any specific names.)

The simple tug of war game. This should be fun!

Small Group Activity (PK Konnect)

Be Kind (application activity / great for active learners)
What You Need: No supplies needed
What You Do:
Guide the kids to scatter around your area. Read the scenarios below. If the child in the scenario
responds as Jesus would, lead the kids to do jumping jacks; if the child gets even, lead kids to crouch
and touch the ground.

At lunch, Chloe goes to get a napkin. As she is coming back, she sees someone reach
over and snatch one of her cookies. Chloe offers them another cookie.
At recess some kids start calling Elaina names. Elaina wants to call them names back,
but instead she ignores them and plays with her friends.

At practice, someone pushes Devon out of line for a drink. Devon pushes back and calls
the other kid a name.
While at a slumber party, a girl calls Mia names and makes fun of her. Mia pushes her to
the ground.
Someone cuts in line in front of Keith. Later, Keith compliments the person who cut in
front of him for doing something well.
Charlies brother grabs the video game controller out of his hand. Before he can run
away, Charlie punches him in the back.
Marys best friend yells at her when she makes a mistake during the game. Instead of
yelling back, Mary gives her friend a hug.
(Feel free to add additional scenarios that are applicable to your group.)

End the game by encouraging the kids to [Apply] think of ways the kids who got even could be
kind to the people who werent kind to them.
What You Say:
[Apply] God wants you to [Impress] be kind to people who arent kind to you. Is that always easy
to do? (Pause.) No, it isnt! When someone is mean to you, sometimes the easiest thing to do is to be
mean back. But with Gods help, you can [Impress] be kind to people who arent kind to you. It
wont always be easy, but with Gods help, you can do it.
Prayer Opportunity
What You Need: No supplies needed
What You Do:
Recap what you have learned together over the past month, as well as any stories that have been
created as youve each lived out the principles of kindness. Ask the group to share about anyone theyd
like to pray for, and give them the space to do this as you lead them in a prayer.
What You Say:
Dear God, You have given us a lot to think about this month when it comes to kindness. [Apply] We
want to keep living this out, and right now we want to pray for people who we feel You have put
on our hearts. (Pause for 10-15 seconds.) Were especially mindful today to [Impress] be kind to
people who arent kind to us and ask You to help us show others they are valuable by how we treat
them. We know that You offer yourself to everyone, so show us how to give this kind of kindness to
those we struggle with just like Youre kind to us when we struggle against You. We pray all of this in
Jesus name, amen!

Small Group Activity / Discussion (All Stars)

Old Maid Switch Up (review the Bible story)
What You Need: a few sets of Old Maid cards
What You Do:
Talk about the Bible story, taking note of how the different Christians reacted to Saul after he
encountered Jesus. Some feared what he might do, although Barnabas spoke up for Saul and said he
was a changed man. Ananias also helped Saul and showed him kindness.

Ask your group for thoughts on how this might apply in their everyday lives. Dont ask them to share a
name out loud, but to think about someone theyd have trouble believing had made a real life change.
Challenge them to consider how they think of that person now.
Next, put the kids into groups of three or four and pass out one set of Old Maid cards per group. Ask
them how they normally have played Old Maid. (You dont want to be the one left with the Old Maid at
the end.) This time the rules are switched up a little. In order to win, you need to be the one holding the
Old Maid card at the end of the game. If a group finishes a game before you run out of time, allow them
to play again. When you do run out of time for the activity, the winners are those holding the Old Maid,
even if the game is not yet completed.
What You Say:
Most of the time, life is more like the official rules of Old Maid. When someone is unkind to us we want
to get rid of them or treat them unkindly in return. But God asks us to do something different. He asks
us to [Impress] be kind to people who arent kind to you. Because Barnabas and Ananias did this,
Saul went on to become the Apostle Paul and God used him to change the world. [Apply] When you
are kind, you dont just show others they are valuable, but you may even help them to become
the kind of people who also show others they are valuable to God.

Possible Discussion Questions
When someone hurts you, what tends to be your first reaction? Why do you think you react this
way?
If you think someone might hurt someone you care about, what is the first thing you think of
doing?
How might kindness change the life of someone who doesnt seem kind? Have you ever seen
this happen in real life or even in a movie or book you have read?
How might practicing kindness change you, from how you might react to how you should
respond?
