How do you create the associated (HMI)block icon for a user-created block (FB)?
Display part number

Instructions:
Overview:
Function blocks (FBs) are assigned to block icons. Block icons are in turn assigned to faceplates. The
configuration of the FBs, block icons and faceplates defines how you add the block icon to a specific
picture. You can either have the block icon added to the picture automatically during OS compilation or
add it manually after you have compiled the OS. We describe both options in this entry.
Information on the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function is available as follows:
In the PCS 7 Online Help under "Configuration Manual - Engineering System > Basic Concepts
of Engineering > Type Definition, Reusability and Central Modifiability of Engineering Data >
Application of Block Types, Faceplates and Block Icons".
In the PCS 7 Online Help under "Configuration Manual - Engineering System > Creating the
PCS 7 Configuration > Creating the Master Data Library > Adapting Blocks > Using Faceplates
and Block Icons for OS Pictures".
In the PCS 7 Online Help under "Configuration Manual - Operator Station > Configuring the OS
Data in the SIMATIC Manager > Additional Editing in the OS Configuration > Function and
Creation of Block Icons".
In the PCS 7 Online Help under "Configuration Manual - Operator Station > Configuring the OS
Data in the SIMATIC Manager > Additional Editing in the OS Configuration > Create/Update
Block Icons...".
In the PCS 7 Online Help under "Configuration Manual - Operator Station > Creating Process
Pictures - Advanced > Function and Use of Block Icons and Faceplates".
In the manual "PCS 7 - Programming Instructions for Blocks".
This documentation is available via the Start menu of an ES: "Start > SIMATIC >
Documentation > English".
Automatic generation of block icons
If you wish to create the block icons automatically in the picture, you must first create an icon in the
picture "@PCS7Typicals.PDL". This picture is the basis for the automatic creation of the block icons. If it
is not available in your project, copy the picture "@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and change its name.

With this option the symbols required are copied from the @... picture into the relevant plant picture.
Warning!
Use of the template files "@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" differs in different
versions of PCS 7. Please also refer to the information in Entry ID 26697820.
1. Select a type (name) for the faceplate. This name will also be used in the FB and in the block
icon (in this example we use "CustomFB" for the type).
2. Create your faceplate.
3. Name your faceplate "CustomFB".

Fig. 1: Naming the faceplate

4. Create an appropriate block icon in the picture "@PCS7Typicals.PDL".
5. Change the object name to "@CustomFB/1".

Fig. 2: Changing object names

6. Change the object type to "@CustomFB/1".

Fig. 3: Changing the object type

7. Change the server name to "PCS7 CustomFB Control".
8. Tag names consist of the tag and the tag extension (e.g. CustomFB.IstWert, CustomFB.UA,
CustomFB.OA). Give all the dynamic attributes the relevant tag extensions
(e.g. .IstWert, .UA,.OA). Make sure that the tag extension also contains the dot. The tag itself is
entered in the "tag name" attribute later during configuring.
9. Make sure that you change the symbolic name of the FB in the CFC to "CustomFB".

Fig. 4: Changing the name of the FB

10. For this you open the Properties of the block concerned by selecting the block in the block
folder in the SIMATIC Manager and open the Properties dialog with a right-click. In this dialog is

the "Symbolic Name" field that you can edit.

Fig. 7: Settings for OS compilation

Manual generation of block icons:
If you wish to add block icons manually to your pictures, then you create the icons in the picture
"@Template.PDL" and then copy them into the relevant plant picture.
1. Select a type (name) for the faceplate. This name will also be used in the FB and in the block
icon (in this example we use "CustomFB" for the type).
2. Create your faceplate.
3. Name your faceplate "CustomFB".

Fig. 8: Naming the faceplate

4. Create an appropriate block icon in the picture "@Template.PDL".
5. Change the object name to "@CustomFB/1".

Fig. 9: Changing object names

6. Change the object type to "@CustomFB/1".

Fig. 10: Changing the object type

9. Copy the block icon from "@Template.PDL" into your plant picture.
10. In the plant picture you select icon and open the Dynamic Wizard.
11. Select the "Connect picture object with measuring point" wizard in the default dynamic.
12. Specify the relevant tag name.

How can you use PCS 7 V5 faceplates also in PCS 7 V6?
Display part number

Description
You have created a graphics block with PCS 7 V5.x and would like to use it in PCS 7 V6. In order for
this faceplate to be able to work perfectly it has to be migrated from PCS 7 V5 to SIMATIC PCS 7 V6.
Instructions for this are available in the "Software Updates Without Using New Functions (PCS 7 V5.x to
V6.0)" manual (Entry ID: 16518653) and the "Software Updates Using New Functions (PCS 7 V5.x to
V6.0)" manual (Entry ID: 16527664).
SIMATIC PCS 7 V6 provides stock protection of the faceplates created in previous versions, which
means the functionality of faceplates created with PCS 7 V5 tools, for example, is also given in
SIMATIC PCS 7 V6. However, in these faceplates you can only use functions that are in V5.
Mixed operation of V5 faceplates and V6 faceplates is not possible. More information about this topic is
available in the "Software Updates Using New Functions (PCS 7 V5.x to V6.0)" manual (Entry
ID:16527664) in chapter 5 "Adjustments on the ES", section 5.3.23 "Special Case".

Why should you close opened faceplates for a change of user (log on/off)?
Display part number

Description:
Users often configure faceplates such that the user currently logged on is stored. For example, the user
name can be stored in the "Text" property of an object of the "Static Text" type. Depending on how a
faceplate is configured, it might happen that the stored user rights are not updated when there is a
change of user. Under certain circumstances this might mean that unauthorized switching actions are
executed or on the other hand that switching actions cannot be executed due to lack of user rights.
Remedy:
Faceplates should be closed after a change of user and then reopened.
Do not store the user currently logged on. For each operator action, always run a new direct
query of the user currently logged on.
Notes:
This behavior occurs, for example, with the Safety Matrix faceplate.
If you use the Basic Process Control option (e.g. when using PCS 7 or the OS Project Editor),
faceplates are closed by default when there is a change of user. Detailed information on this
behavior and on authorization checks is available in Entry ID 16626380.
In the case of Standard WinCC, you must manually configure faceplate administration (opening

and closing of picture windows). Automatic closing of opened picture windows upon logging
on/off can be implemented with a global script action, for example, which is run upon change of
the "@CurrentUser" tag.

The following figure shows the configuration of a C action that is run upon a change of user.
Here, the picture defined in the action is reloaded as Start picture. If the static value of the
"Display" property of possible picture windows has the value "False", then the picture windows
are closed upon change of user.

Bild 01

Alternatively, by script you can query the authorization levels configured in the WinCC User
Administrator through appropriate ODK functions. Entry ID 27068495 shows how to use the
ODK function "PWRTCheckPermission()" to query an authorization level in the script.

How does the faceplate technology work with the "Tag Prefix" property of picture windows?
Display part number

Instructions
You are using faceplate technology in your configuration. As from version V5 of WinCC you can use
the "Tag Prefix" property of picture windows.
Important
It is important that the tag prefix of a picture window corresponds to a global definition. This means that
the tag prefix of the picture window is valid for all tags that are processed in that picture window or are
changed in another way (script).
It thus follows that these tags must be part of the structure whose name you have specified as tag prefix
for the picture window.

If, for example, you declare a tag with the name "Hallo" outside the aforementioned structure and
attempt to change it in the picture window, then an attempt is made to change the tag
name"TagPrefix.Hallo". This leads to an error, because this tag does not exist.
Please also note that the tag prefix of the picture window is also valid when you agree upon another tag
prefix in the picture window.
For tags that are processed in the second definition or changed in another way (script), the following
interpretation holds:
"TagPrefix1.TagPrefix2.TagName".
Implemented in this example are dynamizations with tag links, dynamic dialog and C script. Dynamic
dialog and C script all work with a tag trigger.
The tag prefix works not only in combination with the separation point in WinCC structure tags, but also
at any point in the WinCC tag name. The tag prefix can also be used on elementary WinCC tags.
Notes on the dynamic dialog
In order to be able to work with the dynamic dialog you must implement two things:
The point must be specified with the "Tag prefix" property:
Example
"ampel13".
The dynamic dialog checks whether the tag exists. Therefore you must create a normal tagonce
again for each member tag of a structure.
Example
The structure has three members: ".red", ".yellow" and ".green". Then you must create three
tags "red", "yellow" and "green" in addition.
Advantage of this faceplate technology
You do not need to use any unnecessary C scripts. The tag trigger also ensures good performance.
Notes on changing the tag prefix
Please note that changing the tag prefix only becomes effective in a picture window when there is a
picture change in the picture window. This has been implemented in this sample project. For this please
also refer to the Online Help of the Graphics Designer under the "Tag Prefix" property attribute of the
picture window.
Download
There are compressed WinCC projects ready for downloading for the WinCC versions V5, V6 and V7,

each of which includes an example to demonstrate the functionality described above.

WinCC version

Download

V5
ampelv5.zip ( 597 KB )

V6
ampelv6.zip ( 2892 KB )

V7
ampelv7.zip ( 8022 KB )

Unpack the relevant archive in a separate directory on your computer. You can then use the matching
WinCC version to open and process the project.
Note for PCS 7 users
In this regard also note the benefits of the Graphic Object Update Wizard - you can find a detailed
description in the WinCC Online Help under "Options > Options for Process Control > Graphic Object
Update Wizard". The license for the Graphic Object Update Wizard is included only in the PCS 7 OS
and cannot be ordered separately.
Note on using tags without tag prefix
From WinCC V7 you can use the @NOTP extension to use a tag outside the structure in a faceplate
with tag prefix.
Example
To display the user currently logged on in an IO field in the faceplate you enter
the@NOTP::@CurrentUser tag in the Configuration dialog.
More information on this topic is available in the manual "WinCC: Working with WinCC(02/2013) >
Dynamizing process screens > Using Tag Prefix and Server Prefix"
Display of bitmaps of the faceplates linked as icons
Display part number

QUESTION:

Why are the bitmaps of the faceplates linked as icons no longer displayed?
ANSWER:
When linking the bitmaps into faceplates displayed as icons, WinCC notes the absolute path of the
directory in which the bitmap is stored. If, for example, you copy the project onto another computer, you
must copy the bitmaps into the same path. You can determine the name of the path in which WinCC
searches for the bitmap as follows:
1. Use an ASCII editor (WordPad, NotePad) to open the image <Image_name>.PDL created by
WinCC from the WinCC project directory GraCS.
2. Search in this file for the name of the bitmap. The complete path is then given. If no path is
displayed, the bitmap is in the GraCS directory.
IMPORTANT:
Under no circumstances should you change this file with the ASCII editor.
Remedy:
You can avoid this problem by storing all the required bitmaps in the WinCC project
directory"...\GraCS" and from there link them into the faceplate.
Why are the faceplates, that were created with the Faceplate Designer, not opened on the Multi Client?
Display part number

Description:
A possible cause could be that the faceplates (views) which were created with the Faceplate Designer,
are not handed over with the Server Package to the Multi Client.

Remedy:
In order to display the faceplate, it has to be copied to the folder "GraCS" in the configuration directory
of the MultiClient .
How do you configure different block icons for a technological block in PCS 7 V6.0 and higher?
Display part number

Instructions:

In PCS 7 V6.0 and higher you can configure the selection of block icons instance-specifically in the
CFC. This makes it possible to assign different block icons to blocks in the CFC. Before PCS 7
V6.0different block icons for different instances of a block type were configured directly in the process
picture. There is information available about this in Entry ID 7779197.
Below is a description of how to proceed in PCS 7 V6.0 and higher.
1. Create a PCS 7 V6 project and create a CFC chart with a "MOTOR" (FB66) block. Open the
Properties by double-clicking on the block instance in the CFC or by right-clicking and selecting
Properties in the pop-up menu. In the "Block Icon" dialog insert the name for the block item
used from the block icon picture "@PCS7Typicals.PDL".

The different versions are differentiated via the "Type" attribute in the properties of the block
icon. Configure icon names or numbers (e.g. 1 for vertical valves and 2 for horizontal valves, or
agitator, pump etc. for motors depending on the view in the process picture).

How to configure the various block icons is described in Entry ID: 16514590.

Fig. 1: Setting the block icon in the Properties of the technological block in the CFC ( 15 KB )
2. Change the settings in the SIMATIC Manager for creating block icons. Open the Properties
dialog as shown in Fig. 02.

Fig. 2: Opening the Properties dialog in the SIMATIC Manager

3. Select the settings for name creation and the number of lower hierarchy levels.

Fig. 3: Properties dialog of the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function

4. The block icons can be generated now by pressing the OK button in the Properties dialog or
the next time the OS is compiled.

Fig. 4: Necessary settings in the "Wizard: Compile OS" for generating the block icons
5. The block icon is only generated correctly if a block icon with the corresponding name is found
by the wizard. Thus, make sure that all the block icons used are contained in the template files
"@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and "@PCS7Typicals.PDL".

Warning!
Use of the template files "@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" differs in
different versions of PCS 7. Please also refer to the information in Entry ID 26697820.

Using the Faceplate Designer in PCS7 V5.2 SP2
Display part number

QUESTION:
What should you watch out for after inserting the Faceplate Designers V2.0 in PCS7 version V5.2 SP2?
ANSWER:
In the scope of the further development of PCS7 the Faceplate Designer has been newly adapted and
to allow the addition of new functions and make handling easier.
Multi-instance capability (interfacing of more than one CFC block on the same faceplate; see
below)
Incorporation as wizard in the graphical picture generator interface of the Graphics Designer
User-assigned name for the faceplate type
User-specification of the number and names of the views
In addition, a library is created that already contains the block types most used in PCS7 as ready-made
faceplates. These can be easily changed if required or new types added. For this there are also new

prefabricated tag templates in the picture "@FPD_BaseElements.pdl" .

The FAQ provides notes and recommendations for different applications.
Case 1:
The user has not created any faceplates himself.
(For example, to date the user has only used OCX faceplates which cannot be changed with these
tools.)
Here it is recommended to immediately install version V2.0 of the Faceplate Designer and use its
advantages.

Case 2:
The user has already created his own faceplates with Faceplate Designer V1.0.
The current software also continues to support the functions that could be called with version V1.0
until now. This means that the user can also continue to use his faceplates in the same way as before.
The interconnection of the parameters of individual tags is done in the relevant attributes as
before without a separating point.

Faceplate_Designer_V10_e.gif ( 44 KB )
Case 3:
The user has already created his own faceplates with Faceplate Designer V1.0, but in future only wants
to use the new Faceplate Designer version V2.0.
After installing the new Faceplate Designer V2.0, the system software supports both versions of
Faceplate Designer.
The user just has to pay attention to the different handling when specifying the parameters of tags
(member tags).
In version V2.0 the parameters are specified with preset point (" . ").
(This agreed notation supports the aforementioned capability of addressing multi-instances.)

Faceplate_Designer_V20_e.gif ( 36 KB )
Multi-instance capability:
The blocks to be displayed in the faceplate have to be located in one CFC chart.
At this point in the faceplate there must be specification of: block name . parameter
Correct interconnecting to the block instance name from the calling pictogram is done by using:
"FPD_OpenTypeFacePlateFromUdoMulti"
Distinguishing/identifying features in case of mixed usage (Case 3):
Since the properties of the template pictures
Version V1.0 ..._%TYPE%_...
Version V2.0 ..._%TYPE_...
transfer to the faceplates created, they can also be recognized and distinguished by comparison.
In particular, version V1.0 uses C call scripts that begin with "PCS7_..." and version V2.0 such that
begin with "FPD_...".

How are faceplates inserted in a process display (PCS 7 V4.x/V5.x)?

Hide part number

6ES7658-...05-....

SIMATIC PCS 7 V5/V4

Description:
PCS 7 supplies graphics blocks or faceplates for use with operator-controlled blocks from the PCS 7
libraries. The faceplates are created as OCX and show you all the inputs and outputs of the block

required to use the process.

Configuration is very easy. You connect the faceplate using a Wizard to a point with an instance of a
structure type and it automatically retrieves all the relevant information in runtime.
You can use faceplates in two different ways:
The faceplate is a fixture in the process display - and no movement within it is possible.
The faceplate can be called up dynamically in runtime.
Opening a fixed faceplate in process display
Proceed as follows:
1. Open a display in Graphics Designer.
2. In the "Objects" range open "Smart Objects".
3. Choose the "Control" tab (by clicking it).
4. Drag the faceplate into your working window holding the left mouse button down. You get the
dialog box "Insert Control".
5. Select the appropriate Control (e.g. "PCS 7 MEAS_MON Control"). The Control opens in the
process display.
You then link the faceplate with a structure type (block instance in ES)
1. Select the faceplate in the process display.
2. Start the dynamics Wizard "Link faceplate with PCS 7 Measuring Point" (standard dynamics).
3. Select your measuring point in the Wizard dialog box (e.g. "...FC 111...").
In the faceplate Properties you can choose between showing it as "Symbol", "Faceplate" or "Loop". The
form you choose is displayed when you open the process display in runtime.
viewSymbol
The "Symbol" consists of a tag name (invisible if necessary) with the log-in status display and "graphics"
you have assigned to the individual variables. Clicking the symbol in runtime opens the associated
faceplate.

Faceplate view
The "Faceplate" contains the specific values of the associated block, which you mostly want to have
visible in the display all the time. This might include the measured value, any operating constraints and
alarm or error signals. There is also a combi box for selecting other views of the block (boundaries with
options for shifting them, batch control etc.).

Loop view
The "Loop" shows the series of alternative views that you can open in the faceplate.

You choose the view under faceplate Properties in the "View" options box.
If you double click the faceplate while holding down the CTRL key, the faceplate appears with all its
variables (static) in runtime view.
Opening faceplates dynamically in runtime
This option uses a dynamics Wizard. By clicking on any graphic object (e.g. of a status display or static
loop), you can open a faceplate in runtime. You cannot open it by clicking a user object.
The advantage of opening a faceplate dynamically as opposed to a fixed link is that the graphic
selection times are reduced and the graphic is not overloaded with too many objects.
Proceed as follows:
1. In your graphic display select the object from which you want to open the faceplate and start the

"Select graphic at measuring point" dynamics Wizard on the "Graphic Functions" tab.
2. Set the following properties in the Wizard as you wish:
Trigger: e.g. left mouse button
Structure type: e.g. Valve
Measuring point: e.g. valve block from CFC chart "NK 111"
View: e.g. Group view
The views you can choose in the dynamics Wizard signify the following:
Loop => Operating range
The Loop view of the faceplate is inserted in the operating range. This means you can no longer shift or
minimize it. It is deselected by opening a new process display in the operating range.
Loop => Process window
The Loop view of the faceplate is inserted in the process window. This means you can shift and close it.
Group view
The faceplate view is inserted in a graphics window. Again you can shift and close it.

Properties and creating the process objects (PCS 7 V5.1)

Display part number

QUESTION:
In PCS 7 OS V5.1 I want to create my own process objects. It should be possible to process these
objects with the Graphic Object Update wizards and upon mouse-click they should open a faceplate that
has been created with the Faceplate Designer.
How should I proceed and what is the meaning of the Properties of the process symbols provided in the
template pictures @Template and @@PCS7Typicals?
ANSWER:

In PCS 7 OS V5.1 you want to create your own process objects that can be processed with the Graphic
Object Update wizards and upon mouse-click they should open a faceplate that has been created with
the Faceplate Designer.
The simplest way is to copy existing objects and adapt them as required. The process symbols that are
provided as templates in the pictures @Template (template picture for "Insert picture manually in picture
object") and @@PCS7Typicals (template picture for the function "Derive picture objects from the TH"),
were all configured as standard user-defined objects (UDOs). These UDOs have special properties
which are accessed both by the Graphic Object Update wizards and the function for calling a faceplate.
If you wish to create your own process pictures, then it must have the following properties so that you
can use the new features.
Properties for Graphic Object Update wizards:
Property "type"
Entered in this property is the object type, e.g. "@VALVE/1". The name of the template object is exactly
the same as the object type
e.g. "@VALVE/1" instead of "User-defined Object 7".
Add a text field to your user-defined object. From it create a property named "type". This property is the
central property for working with the Graphic Object Update wizards and must be available if you want
to work with the wizards.

Property "tag"
It is useful to add a field to the process symbols for unambiguous identification. Add a text field to your
user-defined object and create a property out of it named "tag". When exporting, if this is available, then
the text currently contained in the "Tag" column is exported as well. You can then change the existing
entries in Excel. The next time they are imported, these values are entered in the "Tag" property for the
object concerned.

Properties for calling the faceplates as OCX object or pictures created with the Faceplate Designer:
Property "Mouse-click"
To call the faceplate in the OCX or as Faceplate Designer faceplate, the
"SSMOpenFacePlate(lpszPictureName, lpszObjectName)" function is inserted. This function ensures
that the faceplate called matches the object type. Internally this function requires the information about
which structure the object is linked to and which faceplate type is to be called.
Property "Server name"
The static entry in this property provides the function mentioned above with the information about which
faceplate is to be called.
Example:
The PCS 7 CTRL_PID Control means that the picture @PG_CTRL_PID.pdl will be called. It is important
to have both "PCS7" and the control name in the server name, otherwise the
"SSMOpenFacePlate(lpszPictureName, lpszObjectName)" function cannot find the right faceplate.
The "Server name" property is derived from a simple text field in the UDO and its "Text" property.

Property "Tag name"

The static entry in this property provides the function mentioned above with the information about which
variable structure is to be assigned to the faceplate to be opened (e.g. "Tag name"
Filling/Tank2/Dose2/Dose). The "Tag name" property is derived from a simple text field in the UDO and
its "Text" property.

Note:
The property "FP_stay_open" is no longer needed in version V5.1 of PCS 7.

Selecting picture block views via tabs (Faceplate Designer)

Display part number

>
QUESTION:
How can a picture block view be divided into various tabs?
ANSWER:

The attached sample program shows one way of splitting the picture block view into different views.
These views can then be selected by clicking the corresponding tabs. The following example shows
three different tabs in the Parameter view:

Fig. 1: Modified picture block

Instead of the combo box it is also possible to have selection of the various views done entirely via tabs
(delete combo box from picture block or make it invisible). In the associated loop display, you can also
switch between the various tabs. The Parameter display in the combo box does not change when
different tabs are selected.
The configuration of the picture blocks is completely the same as configuration of the standard picture
blocks of the Graphics Designer (see Online Help of WinCC).
The example requires installation of the Graphics Designer. It include the following files:
Pictures:
@PG_Example_Tab.pdl
@PG_Example_Tab_VIEWLIST.pdl
@PG_Example_Tab_STANDARD.pdl
@PG_Example_Tab_PARAMETERS1.pdl
@PG_Example_Tab_PARAMETERS2.pdl

@PG_Example_Tab_PARAMETERS3.pdl
Function:
PCS7_ChangeView_tab.fct
Copy the pictures into the GraCS directory of your WinCC projects (e.g.
C:\Test_Proj\wincproj\OS(1)\GraCS). The function in the installation directory of PCS 7 has to be copied
into the Faceplate Designer directory (e.g. C:\SIEMENS\WINCC\aplib\FaceplateDesigner). Then the
header has to be regenerated (WinCC Explorer: Global Script, right-click -> Open. In the Options menu
you trigger "Regenerate Header").

Fig. 2: Tab for selecting the various parameter views

The tabs for selecting the different parameter views have the following important properties and events:
Object name
The object name must match the name of the view to be called (example: object name is
PARAMETERS1, view called is @PG_Example_Tab_PARAMETERS1.pdl).
Operation release
Is set to "no" for the element whose window is being called, otherwise it is set to "yes".
Text
Text that is on the icon.
Mouse-click (event)
For this picture block it calls the modified function PCS7_ChangeView_tab.fct that executes the
change of picture.

View list not displayed in Runtime

Display part number

QUESTION:
Why is the view list of a user-made faceplate not shown in Runtime?
ANSWER:
There is no link between the faceplate and the associated view list.
If you create your own faceplate with the Faceplate Designer, in the first step you use the
template@PG_%Type%.PDL and change this to suit the type of picture block. In the next step the view
list

based on the template @PG_%Type%_VIEWLIST.PDL

is adapted to the requirements of the

picture block. The point at which the link to the view list is made is shown in the template picture:
1. Open the template @PG_%Type%.PDL in the Graphics Designer and then the Properties
dialog of the view list.

Fig. 1: @PG_%Type%.PDL in the Graphics Designer

2. Via "Picture Window > Properties tab > Miscellaneous > Picture Name" set the reference to the
picture object with the view list.

Fig. 2: Setting the object properties

Example:
A faceplate called @PG_VALVE1.PDL is created for a valve block with the associated view list
@PG_VALVE1_VIEWLIST.PDL. You should enter the view list created for the picture name. So, instead
of the default setting @PG_MEAS_MON_VIEWLIST.PDL please enter @PG_VALVE1_VIEWLIST.PDL
in this example.
How can the frames for a faceplate that is to be edited with the Faceplate Designer be created simply
in PCS 7 V5.1?
Display part number

Description:
The "Faceplate Designer Wizard" was designed to make configuring the faceplate frame easier. If
frames are created with it, then you no longer need to create them manually (as described in the Online
Help.
Important:
The wizard is not integrated in the user interface of WinCC.
Remedy:
The "FaceplateDesigner.exe" file for starting the "Faceplate Designer Wizards" is on the second PCS7

Toolset CD in the path "<DRIVE>:\FaceplateDesignerWizard\..". Copy the "FaceplateDesignerWizard"

folder into the Siemens directory. From there you can then start the wizard.
Configuration:
Procedure for configuring the frame pictures for a faceplate:
1. Open the required OS project.
2. Start the wizard by starting the "FaceplateDesigner.exe" file in the NT Explorer. (The connection
between project and Faceplate Designer Wizard is set up automatically.)
3. Select the block for which the necessary frames/pictures are to be created. (Type -e.g. Valve).
The types that are offered here automatically for selection are derived from the structure types
available in the OS project. This means that you can also use this wizard to generate frames for
blocks you have created yourself.

4. Deselect the views not needed (e.g. Limits and Trend)

5. With "Generate" the pictures are generated automatically.

Then you can configure the elements for the faceplates in the various views of the pictures (e.g.
@PG_VALVE_STANDARD.PDL).

How can you create WinCC symbols from the CFC configuration?
Display part number

Description:
This entry applies for PCS 7 V5.1 and higher.
If you configure a motor block in the CFC, then normally you would like to visualize this on your
Operating Station. This applies for a large number of blocks. To date you had to create the associated
picture object for each CFC block manually in the Graphics Designer. The function described below
greatly simplifies this configuration.
With PCS 7 Version 5.1 and higher you can have the WinCC icons of the PCS 7 standard blocks
created automatically from a CFC chart.
The icons generated are created by mouse-click in the WinCC picture ready and complete with process
connection and faceplate call. You then have to place the icons in the correct position in the plant mimic
diagram.
You can create icons for the standard blocks below.

Requirements for automatic generation of the WinCC icons:

PCS 7 version V5.1 or higher
The WinCC picture and CFC chart must be in the Technological Hierarchy of PCS 7.
Procedure:
In order to be able to create the block icons for a WinCC picture, you have to enable the "Derive the
block icons from the technological hierarchy" function in the picture properties.
For this you open the "Object Properties" of the picture and enable the appropriate option in the "Block
Icons" tab.

Fig. 01

Fig. 02

You must then start creation of the icons.

The icons are created for the picture in the selected Technological Hierarchy (TH) container and for all

the pictures that are in the lower-level TH containers.

Mark the TH container, select "Plant Hierarchy" and then the "Create/Update Block Icons" submenu.
The following dialog displays the pictures for which the block icons have now been created.

Fig. 03

You then have to define the structure of the icon header. You can choose between various
combinations of the individual name components.

Note:
The icon header is about 3 centimeters wide. Sometimes it might not be possible to display the
complete technological designation.
If there is not enough space for the display, then please select the setting "Chart/Block" or just "Chart"
or just "Block".
Before starting creation, save and close all the open editors of WinCC, because WinCC will be closed
after creation.

Fig. 04

After creation you can open the WinCC picture with a double-click.
The following figure shows the result of an example. Icons have been created for the following blocks:
MEAS_MON, MOT_REV, MOT_SPED, Motor, OP_A_LIM, OP_D, CTRL_PID, VAL_MOT and VALVE.
The icons are inserted into the picture starting on the left. If the first line is not long enough, a second
line is started again from the left.
Now you still have to place the icons and of course do an AS-OS transfer/OS compilation before starting
the WinCC Runtime. All icons have process interface and the associated faceplate is opened with a
mouse-click.

Fig. 05

Warning:
If you make changes in the CFC chart, which affect these icons, then you have to update the icons via
the TH.
Changes are:
Deleting blocks for icons
Adding blocks for icons
Renaming blocks
Renaming the CFC chart
Renaming designations in the Technological Hierarchy

Fig. 06
For creating the icons for a WinCC picture, all the CFC charts are browsed, which are in the same
hierarchy folder and (if available) in the next lowest hierarchy level. This is a system property. If you do
not need all the icons from both hierarchy levels in your WinCC picture, you can delete the icons not
required.
SSpecial case: valve icons
Since valves in plant pictures are used horizontally and vertically, the display has to be adapted
instance for instance.
The valve icons are created vertically by default.
Below a method is illustrated for the horizontal position.
The icon to be changed is marked in the Graphics Designer and the Properties dialog opened.

Fig. 07
Now double-click the property "type".

Fig. 08

In the input field that opens you must now change @Object_name/1 to @Object_name/2. For example:
old template name "@VAL_MOT/1", new template name "@VAL_MOT/2".

Fig. 09

Then save the picture and close the Graphics Designer. You must then create the block icons once
again from the TH (see above).
Since the icons are already in the picture, they are only updated and the changed template pictures are
used.
As can be seen in the following figure, the position of the valve has changed.

Fig. 10
Note:
This entry was created with PCS 7 V5.1. It is also valid for successor versions, although the appearance
of the separate dialogs might differ slightly. The procedure remains the same.

How can you create your own block icons that will be incorporated automatically in process pictures?
Display part number

Instructions:
With SIMATIC PCS 7, block icons are provided by default in the WinCC picture
"@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and are made available to the user automatically in the project.
If you call the "Create/update block icons..." function from the SIMATIC Manager, the relevant block

icons for the technological blocks are created in the process display and are also linked automatically
with the measuring point.
The operator thus receives a visualization in the process display with status and alarm information. If
you click on the block icon, the associated faceplate (picture block) opens.
If you wish to change these block icons, create your own icons for your blocks or use the option of
having several icons for the same block type (available in SIMATIC PCS 7 V6.x; see also Entry
ID16519629), then please proceed as follows.
1. Open the WinCC picture "@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and save it as "@PCS7Typicals.PDL". This
ensures that you don t change the original and at the same time from now on the block icons
will be used with the templates from the WinCC picture "@PCS7Typicals.PDL".

Fig. 1: Saving the original PCS 7 Typical picture as "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" ( 43 KB )

Warning!
Use of the template files "@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" differs in different
versions of PCS 7. Please also refer to the information in Entry ID 26697820.
2. In this example we will be creating and incorporating three more block icons in the MOTOR
group. The three block icons are for a agitator, pump and motor respectively.
Add three text fields to the MOTOR group each with the designation for the relevant block icon.
To simplify creating your own block icons, copy the block icon for the MOTOR "@MOTOR/1"
and reinsert this object under the first text field in the WinCC picture.
Change the name the first new object (agitator) to "@MOTOR/Agitator", for example, in "Object
Properties -> Object Name". Then mark the renamed block icon and right-click to open the
editing mode via "Customized object -> Edit".

Fig. 2: Starting the editing mode for the customized object block icon
3. In the next step you replace the motor icon with an agitator icon. Click the customized object
block icon and then right-click and select Configuration Dialog
dialog for the extended status display.

to open the configuration

Fig. 3: Opening the configuration dialog of the extended status display

4. In the simplest case you don t need any more status and alarm information in the block icon.
This means you can go directly to the dialog for assigning the displays.
Now mark the individual lines (Index 0 to 3) and then double-click the prepared picture, e.g.
"@agitator_off.emf".
Double-click the same picture again or another picture to configure the relevant flash picture.
Save the changes and quit the configuration dialog.
Note:
In the extended status display you have a choice between the standard WinCC graphics types *.emf
and *.wmf, and the standard graphic types *.bmp, *.gif or *.jpg. Copy the template pictures in your
project into the folder "<Project name>\GraCS". EMF pictures can also be created by exporting WinCC
pictures (PDL) to the Graphics Designer.

Fig. 4: Assigning basic pictures and flash pictures for the block icon
5. Now arrange all the separate objects of the block icon as required and insert other elements if
necessary. Then mark all the objects of the block icon and close the editing mode by rightclicking and then selecting "Customized object > Finish editing". Please note that all the objects
of the block icon have to be marked, otherwise the objects that are not marked will not be
components of the block icon.

Fig. 5: Closing the editing mode for customized objects

Repeat step 1 to 5 for all the block icons to be changed or created. If you do not wish to use several
icons for the same block type, you can skip step 6.
6. For the automatic creation of different block icons for the same technological block in the CFC
(e.g. FB66, MOTOR) you now have to make a difference in the "type" attribute of the block
icon.
Open the Object Properties of the block icon in the Graphics Designer and under Properties
select the menu item "General".
In the right-hand subwindow you now have the option of selecting a name for the special block
icon.
Leave "@MOTOR" unchanged for the assignment of the block icon to the Motor block and after
the slash (/) add a name of your choice for this icon (e.g. Agitator).
You must then specify this name later as attribute of the relevant instance of the motor block in

the CFC (see also Entry ID 16519629).

Fig. 6: Changing the "type" attribute in the Object Properties dialog of the block icon
7. After editing, save the changed WinCC picture "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and close the Graphics
Designer.

Fig. 7: The newly created block icons in the "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" picture

8. Now you can call the "Create/update block icons..." function in Technological Hierarchy of the
SIMATIC Manager. Please make sure that all the requirements are met for the relevant picture see also Entry ID 7779197.
After completion of the automatic creation of block icons the objects are incorporated into the
configured PCS 7 OS picture and linked with the measuring point.

What options do you have in SIMATIC PCS 7 V6.0 SP1 and higher for generating the block symbols
for an SFC type?
Display part number

Instructions:
The block symbol templates for the SFC chart "@SFC_RTS" and the instance of an SFC type
"@SFC_TYPE" are provided in the picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl". For all changes, e.g. to create more
versions of the type, you must copy this picture and save it as "@PCS7Typicals.pdl". In this copy of the
picture you use copy/paste to generate another block symbol for each SFC type created.
Warning!
Use of the template files "@@PCS7Typicals.PDL" and "@PCS7Typicals.PDL" differs in different
versions of PCS 7. Please also refer to the information in Entry ID 26697820.

Fig. 1: Blocksymbol in picture "@PCS7Typicals.pdl"

You then call the Properties for each block icon and under "General" in the attributes "StructureType"
and "type" you replace the value (e.g. @SFC_TYPE) with the name of the associated SFC type (refer to
fig. 2).

Fig. 2: Properties of the blocksymbol ( 62 KB )

The block icons for your OS picture can be generated in two different ways:
Automatic generation in the Technological Hierarchy (TH).

In this way the associated block icons for all the existing SFC charts are incorporated in the
picture automatically and the appropriate parameters are assigned. See here the Online Help of
the TH: "Automatically create/update block icons for OS pictures".
Place the block icons in the Graphics Designer and use the Dynamic Wizard to configure.

Procedure in WinCC:
1. Copy the block icon concerned from the typicals picture into your current picture.
2. Change the properties "StructureType" and "type" accordingly to the type name (not necessary
for block icons for the SFC chart).
3. Select the block icon and in the "Dynamic Wizard" window, in the "Standard Dynamics" tab you
double-click the entry "Connect picture block to tag structure".
The Dynamic Wizard opens.
4. On the "Set Options" page you click on the "..." button.
The dialog field "Variables - Project:" opens.
5. In the WinCC variables you open "List of all variables" and in the right window you select with a
double-click the relevant variable for the chart or the instance.
The dialog field closes; the variable name is entered in the Dynamic Wizard.
6. Click on "Next".
On the next page there is a display of what the wizard will now generate.
7. Click on "Finish".
Configuration of the block icon is now complete. You can now use it to call the associated
picture block in Runtime mode.

How do you use the template pictures "@PCS7Typicals*.pdl" to create block icons?
Display part number

Instructions
The task of the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function of the plant hierarchy (PH) is to incorporate the
block icons of the measuring points and blocks configured in the PH automatically in the associated
plant pictures. You then only have to move the block icons to the exact position required in the plant
picture.
Requirements for the automatic creation of the block icons

The "Create/update block icons" function is available from PCS 7 V5.1 onwards.
The process pictures in which the block icons are to be created/updated must be created in the
plant hierarchy (PH).
In the plant hierarchy you must select the picture property "Derive block icons from the plant
hierarchy".
The "Create/Update Block Icons..." function can be executed in two different ways:
Menu command "Create/update block icons"
In the "Plant View" of the SIMATIC Manager is the menu command "Options > Plant Hierarchy
> Create/Update Block Icons..." for creating block icons.
Compile OS
From PCS 7 V6.0 onwards you can execute the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function as an
option when compiling the OS.
From PCS 7 V7.0 onwards the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function is always executed when
compiling the OS. This means that the block icons are always created/updated if the relevant
changes are recognized.
In the PCS 7 Online Help under "Configuration Manual - Operator Station > Create process
pictures - continued > Function and Implementation of Block Icons and Faceplates".
In the manual "PCS 7 - Programming Instructions for Blocks".
This documentation is available via the Start menu of an ES: "Start > SIMATIC >

Documentation > English".

This entry also provides notes on the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function especially for using the
template pictures "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl" and "@PCS7Typicals*.pdl".
When executing the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function, the system searches the template pictures
for the block icons to incorporate/update an icon appropriate to the block instance in the plant picture.
The default template picture for the block icons is "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl". The template picture is
created in the system when PCS 7 is installed and copied into the project path when the OS project
editor is called. It contains the block icons for the picture blocks supplied with PCS 7. The default
template picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl" should not be changed, because it is overwritten when you
use the OS project editor.
Notes
Please note that the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function works differently in certain versions of PCS
7:
The "Create/update block icons" function is available from PCS 7 V5.1 onwards. Here, the
faceplate icons are made available in the template picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl". If faceplate
icons are to be changed or newly create, then you should copy the standard template picture
"@@PCS7Typicals.pdl" as "@PCS7Typicals.pdl". You can then make the required changes in
the "@PCS7Typicals.pdl" picture. As soon as the "@PCS7Typicals.pdl" is available, the
standard template picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl" is no longer evaluated. For this reason the
template picture "@PCS7Typicals.pdl" must contain all the block icons used in the project, even
those that have not been changed.

From PCS 7 V6.0 onwards, in the CFC, for the "Create/update block icons" function, you can
define different block symbols for different instances of an HMI block for incorporation in the
process picture. For example, you can define in the CFC whether a valve is used horizontally or
vertically in the process picture. With regard to the template pictures "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl"
and "@PCS7Typicals.pdl", there is no difference to PCS 7 version V5.1. Previous to PCS 7
V6.0 different block icons were configured for different instances of a block type directly in the
process picture. There is information available about this in Entry ID 7779197.

From PCS 7 V6.1 onwards up to 10 different template pictures are supported for the block
icons. The names of user-specific template pictures must begin with the character string
"@PCS7Typicals". Upper/lower case lettering is irrelevant. The block icons used in the project

can be distributed in different template pictures. The following table describes among other
things the order of processing in the case of multiple template pictures.
With "Create/Update Block Icons...", the template pictures are searched with reference to the block
icons used in the PH. As soon as a suitable block icon has been found in one of the template pictures, it
is incorporated or updated in the plant picture. If the block icon is not yet available in the plant picture, it
is incorporated automatically in a free picture area, starting in the top left corner. Block icons that are
already in the plant picture are updated.
The following table describes some aspects of the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function.

No. Description

1 Creating a new block icon

If the block icon is not available or is in a different version in the plant picture, then the existing
icon is deleted in the plant picture and the new block icon is inserted in another position in the
plant picture (in the next free area in the picture starting in the top left corner).

2 Updating a block icon

If the block icon is already in the plant picture in the version configured, then the block icon
isupdated. In this case, the existing block icon is deleted in the plant picture and the block icon of
the template picture is inserted in the original position in the plant picture. In this way changes to
block icons in the picture template are transferred to the plant picture. On the other hand, manual
changes to the block icon in the plant picture are overwritten by the block icon in the template
picture.

Exception
The properties "Left", "Top", "Process_controlling_backup" and
"Higher_process_controlling_backup" of the block icons have the same values after updating as
before updating! This means:
After automatic creation, you can move the block icons to the required position and
change the operation authorization properties "Process_controlling_backup" and

"Higher_process_controlling_backup" without these changes being overwritten by

renewed use of the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function.
Changes to the properties "Process_controlling_backup" and
"Higher_process_controlling_backup" of the block icons in the template pictures are not
transferred automatically to block icons that are already incorporated in plant pictures
when you use the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function. For this, you have to reinsert
the block icons. You can do this, for example, by changing the "Block Icon" property for
the blocks to be adapted in the process object view of the SIMATIC Manager and then
calling the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function.

Warning:
This changes the existing position of the block icons in the process pictures. You then
have to move the blocks back into their correct positions in the plant picture.

3 Order of processing in the case of multiple template pictures from PCS 7 V6.1 onwards
If there are multiple template pictures available that contain the same block icons, the
"Create/Update Block Icons..." function uses the block icons of the template picture in which they
were first found. This means that the order of processing the template pictures determines which
block icons will be used. The template pictures are sorted internally by file name and processed in
reverse alphabetical order.
Special characters like "_" in the file name have a special meaning for the sorting order.
The default template picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl" is usually the last picture in the
processing order.
A maximum of 10 template pictures are evaluated. If there are more than 10 template
pictures, only the first 10 pictures are used according to the sorting order described. This
can lead to the situation where the default template picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl" or
other template pictures are not evaluated and errors occur.
You can view the currently effective order of processing the template pictures for the
"Create/Update Block Icons..." function in the "@@PCS7Typicals.csv" file in the project
path of the WinCC project of the OS concerned. This file is created when you call the
"Create/Update Block Icons..." function.

Fig. 01
You should not store the same block icons in multiple user-specific template pictures.
This will avoid the error of creating "wrong" block icons as a result of the processing
order.
User-specific template pictures should only contain block icons that are not contained or
changed in the default template picture "@@PCS7Typicals.pdl". This makes it easy to
see which block icons have been changed or used in addition to the default.

4 Processing only upon change

The "Create/Update Block Icons..." function is only executed if the system recognizes at least one
of the following configuration changes:
OS-relevant changes have been made in the CFC - for example, a different icon is
specified in the input field "Create block icon".
A plant picture configured in the PH or the associated time stamp has been changed.
One of the template pictures "@PCS7Typicals*.pdl" or the associated time stamp has
changed. If there are more than 10 template pictures, there must be a change in one of
the 10 relevant template pictures.
Here, it does not matter whether the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function is called from the
"Compile OS" context (delta compilation or complete compilation) or from the PH menu command
"Create/Update Block Icons...".
5 Log file
"Create/Update Block Icons..." errors are recorded in the log file "THPOFile.log". This file is in the
WinCC project directory. You can also open this log file in the plant view in the SIMATIC Manager
using the menu command "Options > Plant Hierarchy > Open Block Icons Log".

Fig. 02

Warning
If the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function is called from the "Compile OS" context, any
errors occurring with "Create/Update Block Icons..." are not displayed immediately after
compiling. It might occur that the message "Compile OS (203:300) - The compilation was
completed without errors and warnings" is displayed although errors did occur during
execution of the "Create/Update Block Icons..." function.

Fig. 03

It is recommended to search the log file "THPOFile.log" for error entries.

If errors occur during "Create/Update Block Icons...", and the "Create/Update Block
Icons..." function is called again without changes being made (see Point 4 "Processing
only upon change"), no error entries can be written in the log file even though the block
icons might not have been created completely.

The following table lists other entries on the topic of "Create/Update Block Icons...".

Instructions:
With a customized object it is only possible to change the lower-level objects through separate selection
and not through multiple selection. It is possible to change the properties/events of the customized
object itself through multiple selection and thus make the change simultaneously in several customized

objects. Select the required customized objects and then make the required change under Object

How do I use and configure an extended status display with SIMATIC PCS 7?
Display part number

Description:
The extended status display is for standardizing the flow chart layout for process pictures. It can be
used in user objects and can be changed centrally using the "Graphics Update-Wizard". its use reduces
the script calls and therefore leads to a higher system performance. Because of the possibility of
connecting to up to four status words it ensures high adjustability to existing blocks. New blocks are
connected only to the status word "VSTATUS".
With the extended status display, you can define any states and assign basic and flash pictures to them.
As a status tag, use preferrably the tag "VSTATUS" or any other numeric tag of the PCS 7 OS tag
management. Additionally, the status tags can be combined with alarm states.
The 32 bit status word "VSTATUS" is at disposal for standard blocks with the introduction of V6.x of
SIMATIC PCS 7 and is intended for the extended status display in block symbols and picture blocks.
The configuration of the extended status display is made in two steps. In the first step, you define which
bits of the status words are relevant for the interpretation and if the collected value of the block is to be
considered in the display. For the collected value, you define the priorities of the various alarms (0 =
inactive, 1 = highest priority, 6 = low priority).

Fig 01 Properties dialog of the extended status display for SIMATIC PCS 7
When changes are made in this configuration, the index list is regenerated. This way, all configurations

that have been done so far will be lost. Information about this is displayed by a dialog window.

Fig. 2: Dialog window for recreation of index list

The previous configuration can be saved to an *.XML file using the button "Export Configuration".
In the second step, you can assign an picture and a flash picture to all combinations resulting from this
(relevant bits of the status words and states of the collected value of the block = max. 478 states).
There is a choice of pictures in the folder "CraCS". You can create your own pictures in the Grapics
Designer and save them to this folder using the funciton "Export". You can, however, use your own
pictures in the graphics format BMP, JPG or GIF.

Fig. 3: Assignment of pictures and flash pictures to the various states and priorities.
The assignment of the basic pictures and the flash pictures is done this way:
Mark the line to which you would like to assign basic and/or flash pictures.
After that, double-click in the list of all pictures the one that you defined as basic picture. This
one will now automatically assigned as basic picture for the marked linke.
Now you double-click the picture that is to be displayed as flash picture for the marked line.
To change the basic and flash pictures, you always have to proceed in the same way.
Meaning:
S,- Malfunction go

Fig. 4: Connection of the extended status display in the Graphics Designer of the PCS 7 OS station.
Behaviour of the report priorites in runtime:
If an event in process is confirmed, the event will go to the background independently of its priority. Low
priority events that not have been confirmed will this way be displayed prior to those with higher priority

that have been confirmed already.

Low priority events will not be displayed as long as an event is displayed as "gone without confirmation".
You can influence the display of gone events. To do so, please oben the object properties of the
extended status display and set the desired behaviour in the event group "Properties" in the attribute
"Gone status visible".

More possibilities:
You can, for example, display the states OPEN, CLOSED, OPEN in flow direction, in flow direction TO,
in the block Valve with the tags "VSTATUS" over the bit positions 9, 10, 11, 12 with pictures made
individually and combine them with the alarm status malfunction.

Further information on the use of the extended analog display can be found in the WinCC online Help or
the manual "SIMATIC Process Control System PCS 7 Operator Station", Chapter 6.4.4 under EntryID 15229149.

In a user-created faceplate, how can you display the block comment in addition to the "TagName" or
use a button to switch between TagName and Comment?
Display part number

Description:
Using a button, a text field and two small scripts it is possible to switch between the display of the
TagName and display of the Comment. If you wish to have both displayed at the same time, then no
button and only one script is needed.
Proceed as follows to assign this functionality to a user-created faceplate:
Solution A: Display Comment and TagName at the same time in the faceplate
1. In the Graphics Designer open the faceplate picture "@PG_<Name_of_faceplate>.pdl" in which
the Comment from the CFC chart is to be displayed.
2. For display of the block comment insert a text field with the name "CommentView" in the
desired position in the faceplate.

Fig. 1: Example of faceplate with Comment and TagName

3. In this faceplate you select the object "@Faceplate". In the Object Properties under "Event >
Properties > Texts > Tag name" insert the following C script.
#include "apdefap.h"
void OnPropertyChanged(char* lpszPictureName, char* lpszObjectName, char* lpszPropertyName,
char* value)
{
char com_tag[255];
char* Comment;
sprintf(com_tag,"%s.#comment",value);
// Example: "CFC1/Valve.#comment"
Comment=GetTagChar(com_tag);
SetPropChar(lpszPictureName,"CommentView","Text",Comment);
// Transfer data to text field
PCS7_UpdateGroupTagname_V6(lpszPictureName, lpszObjectName, value);
}
4. Compile and save the script.
5. Save the changed picture and active to Runtime. Now, when you select the faceplate, the

Comment and the TagName are displayed.

Solution B: Use a button to switch between TagName and Comment
Execute the following steps in addition to steps 1 to 5 in Solution A described above.
1. Move the text field for the block comment into the area in which the TagName is displayed in
the faceplate.

Fig. 2: Example of Faceplate with toggle button

2. Insert a toggle button in the desired position in the "@PG_<Name_of_faceplate>.pdl" faceplate
(Fig. 1) by enlarging the object "@pg_valve".
3. Open the Object Properties of the button and under "Event > Mouse > Mouse Click" insert the
following C script:
#include "apdefap.h"
void OnClick(char* lpszPictureName, char* lpszObjectName, char* lpszPropertyName)
{
if (GetVisible(lpszPictureName,"CommentView"))
SetVisible(lpszPictureName,"CommentView",FALSE);
else

SetVisible(lpszPictureName,"CommentView",TRUE);
}
4. Compile and save the script.
5. Now using the button configured, faceplate you can toggle between the TagName display and
the Comment display.

How can you use the extended status display to show the alarm status of a measuring point in the
process picture directly on the user object?
Display part number

Instructions:
This entry applies only to the installation of a PCS 7 OS, since because the extended status display is
only available there.
Function:
The extended status display provides an option of grahically displaying alarm statuses of a measuring
point.

Fig. 01
For this you place the extended status display at an appropriate point in the user object and define the
"Group value" and "Group Relevant" properties as properties of the user object. Later you can make the
"Group Value" property dynamic with the tag "<TagPrefix>.EventState" created with "OS Compile".
Status words 1 to 4 of the extended status display are not needed for this task.
You have the abibility configure the desired graphical display for each alarm status in the form of a basic
picture and a flash picture. The extended status display is configured on the basis of the standard PCS
7 message classes and message types. You can also define priorities in the event that messages of
different types arrive at the same time.
The followig procedure describes how you can incorporate the extended status display in a user object

in order to display the alarm status of a measuring point.

No. Procedure

Defining alarm statuses of the extended status display

Create a separate WinCC picture that will be used for creating the extended status display for
displaying alarm statuses. Define the following for each alarm status:
Brief description of the alarm status.
Icons for the basic and flash pictures
Note:
Create the graphic icons in the size (height and width) in which they are to be displayed.
Name for the associated graphics files (*.emf files)

Fig. 02
Create the graphics files for the basic and flash pictures for each alarm status.
Note:
Proceed as follows to create the graphics files:
1. Double-click the static text to display the file name.
Now the text is selected. Copy the text into the Windows clipboard.
2. Click on the graphic icon belonging to the file name.
3. Select "File > Export...". The dialog for storing a graphical object opens.
4. Paste the contents of the clipboard into the "File name" field.
5. Close the dialog by clicking the "Save" button.
6. Execute Steps 1 to 5 for creating the basic and flash pictures for each of the alarm
statuses.

Creating the extended status display for displaying the alarm status
1. Insert a WinCC object of the type "Status Display (extended)" into the picture for creating
the extended status display.
You should give the status display a meaningful name, e.g. "CV"(CollectValue).
2. Adapt the height and width of the status display to the height and width of the icons to be
used. This avoids graphical distortions.
3. Open the Configuration dialog of the extended status display. Make the following settings
in the "General" tab:
o

Under "Bit selection" you select for all the "Bit:" fields the entry "no status word".

Make sure that the "Use group value for display" option check box is checked.

Assign priorities for the display of different alarm classes.

Fig. 03
4. Switch to the "Assign Pictures" tab of the Configuration dialog for the extended status
display. Assign the relevant basic and flash pictures to each alarm status.

Fig. 04
5. Click "OK" to close the Configuration dialog.
Detailed information on the extended status display is available in the WinCC Online Help under
"WinCC Information System > Options > Options for Process Control > Overview of the Process
Control Options > Extended Status Display".

Adding the extended status display to user objects

Switch to the "Edit User Object" mode of the user object.
Insert the extended status display at an appropriate point in the user object.
Quit the processing mode of the user object and switch to the Configuration dialog of the
user object.
Define the "Group Value" and "Group Relevant" properties of the extended status display
as properties of the user object. Name these properties "CollectValue" and "Relevant"
accordingly.
Define the static values of the properties. In the "Static" column, in the "Relevant" row you
enter the value "yes" and the value "65535" in "CollectValue" row.

Interconnecting the user object in the process picture

Copy the user object into a process picture and connect the user object to the measuring point.

Fig. 05

Testing the function in WinCC Runtime

Test the function in WinCC Runtime.

More information:
PCS 7 measuring points generally also have the connection "Quality Code". This connection
provides information on the validity of the measuring point (e.g. OK, defective, defective and
replacement value active, simulation active). It is useful to have this information displayed in the
user object in addition to the alarm status. You can place a separate status display in the user
object for displaying the "Quality Code". In order to reduce the size of the user object, the status
display for displaying the "Quality Code" could overlap the status display for displaying the
alarm status. Only if the "Quality Code" has the value "OK" (e.g. 0x80), could the display be
hidden or transparent. In this case the status display for displaying the alarm status is visible.

The "Group Display" is used by default in PCS 7 for displaying messages on the user object.

The group display has many configuration options for adapting it to the wishes and
requirements of customers. You configure the main properties such as font color and
background color by specifying these properties directly. If the display of an alarm status is to
be changed later, all the user objects already incorporated in pictures have to be revised.

The advantage of the extended status display is that it uses centrally stored graphics files to
display the alarm statuses. If all the user objects of a project use the same status display for
displaying alarm statuses, changes can be made centrally in the graphics files without having to
revise all the process pictures.
This entry has been created with PCS 7 V6.1 SP1.

13. Compile the OS and activate the "Create/update block icons" function.

6. Change the object type to "@CustomFB/1".

Fig. 10: Changing the object type

How can I create and effectively configure my own faceplates using the Faceplate Designer?
Display part number

Description
With SIMATIC PCS 7 V6.0 all the standard faceplates were converted to the Faceplate Designer
technology. Because of this the Faceplate Designer has been included as an editor in WinCC Explorer.
In the Faceplate Designer editor you create the layout of the basic masks for faceplates. Using the

editor you can define the name and views of the new faceplate. Furthermore, you select whether the
new faceplate should also contain a loop display, batch variables or group display. You can also specify
the height and width of the new faceplate here.
Configuring
1. Open the Faceplate Designer with a double-click in WinCC Explorer. In the "Type" field you
enter the name for your new faceplate.

Fig. 1: Opening the Faceplate Designer and selecting the faceplate

2. You then configure the views for the faceplate. You can select the available views by simply
transferring them with the arrow buttons. You can change the order at any time with the Up and
Down buttons.

Fig. 2: Selecting and arranging the views configured for the faceplate
With the "More..." button you can select additional views for a faceplate.
3. To finish configuring in the Faceplate Designer you select the "Generate" button to create the

views for the faceplate.

Fig. 3: Finishing configuration by generating all the faceplate files

4. All the views are in the Graphics Designer editor in WinCC Explorer. The name consists of the
name of the faceplate selected and the extension of the view (e.g. Standard).

Fig. 4: Results of generating all the faceplate files (pdl pictures)

5. The separate views of the faceplate can then be configured in the Graphics Designer. For the
"Standard" view, for example, the picture @PG_<faceplate-Name>_Standard.pdl is made
available in the folder "GraCS" (here @PG_NEWBLOCK_STANDARD.PDL).
The picture @pcs7elements.pdl contains template elements for creating faceplates for SIMATIC
PCS 7. The simplest way of configuring is to copy/paste these elements into your own
faceplate. In the following figure you see how a bar display is copied from the template picture
into the standard view of the new faceplate.

6. To complete the configuration you dynamically configure the new element inserted in the view
of the faceplate. Since the faceplate is linked to the relevant structure name, in the faceplate
view you just insert the connector name with the prefixed dot for the dynamic.

Fig. 6: Configuring the links for the faceplate ( 28 KB )

Note:
If you want to adapt the views of the standard blocks (e.g. Motor, Valve) to suit your needs, it is not
recommended to reconfigure the entire faceplate according to these instructions. In this case it is better
to open an existing view, e.g. @PG_<faceplate-Name>_Standard.pdl, and modify that. This means that
in the view you can change colors, add or remove elements and integrate new dynamics.

A detailed description is available in the manual "Process Control SystemPCS 7 Programming

Instructions for Blocks", chapter 2 "Creating Faceplates", section 2.2 "Working with the Faceplate
Designer".

How can you hide default faceplate views that are not required?
Display part number

Instructions:
You can make the changes to the default faceplates using the WinCC editor, Faceplate Designer.
Information on this topic is available in the manual "Process Control System PCS 7 - Programming
Instructions for Blocks", Section 2.2. These instructions show how to remove the "Batch" view from the
standard faceplate "CTRL_PID". If the "Batch" entry is to be removed from the combo box for selecting
the desired views, then the "Batch" view must also be removed from the loop display.

Fig. 01

No. Procedure

In WinCC Runtime open the faceplate from which you wish to remove a view. Open the combo
box for selecting the desired view - see Fig. 01. Note the views used and their order for the
following step.

Open the Faceplate Designer.

From the "Type" combo box, select the faceplate type "CTRL_PID". Add the views you require to
the "Selected views:" list. The "Standard" and "Messages" views are already in the list. You
should add the views "Maintenance", "Parameters" and "Trend" from the "Available views" list.
Do not add the "Batch" view to the "Selected views:" list. Using the arrow buttons you can define
the order of the views in the "Selected views:" combo box and in the loop display.

The next time you run the OS project editor, you should not overwrite the changed faceplate
template files in the project directory with corresponding files from the Product library, or the
changes would be lost. The differences in the template files are displayed in the OS project editor,
where you can deselect overwriting.

Fig. 07
Alternatively you can store the project's changed template files in the Product library. To do this
you copy the two changed files into the path
"<Installation_path>\SIEMENS\WINCC\options\pdl\faceplatedesigner_V6\...". Your changes will
now be used as default.
