Scope and Functional Requirements

This Design Philosophy provides a description of the Offshore
Instrument Air System for the Kingsnorth Carbon Capture Storage
(CCS) Project.
This document shall be used as the basis for FEED and the
development of the conceptual design for the complete CCS chain
(power plant, capture plant, compression, transportation, offshore
infrastructure, wells and storage) for subsequent use in the detailed
design and implementation phase.
The Design Philosophy ensures that a consistent approach to the
subject matter is taken by all parties throughout the design,
construction and operation phases of the project. Ancillary
documents referred to in this Design Philosophy are mandatory
reading as these documents contain more detailed explanation of
the subject matter than the summary contained herein.

Assumptions
The valves on the offshore platform (slam-shut valves, subsurface
slam-shut valves) will be of own-medium-controlled type using the
pressure of the storage wells.

Design Requirements
The Offshore Instrument Air System is applicable for the offshore
facilities only. As on the wellhead platform no instrumentation
requiring instrument air exists (see Assumptions) the Instrument Air
System is not needed.
