Adam Kadmon

Adam and the Tree of Life are made in the same

pattern. In Bereshit (Genesis) we see how ELOHIM
created ADAM in His (Their) own IMAGE. This Man is
the living image of the universe and mirror of its
Creator. The purpose of this ADAM is to work in the
manifested universe as a counterbalance of the unmanifest side of existence. Even though it seems
that ADAM KADMON is separated from the Absolute,
the Absolute contains Him, is Him, but it is separate
yet ever present in Him. This might sound
contradictory and confusing, but creation is far
beyond our understanding as human beings. As
above so below, can also be thought of as within so
without.
Because we are the decedents of ADAM we are a
reflection of the Tree of Life. This has for use
important relevance to the ideas found within the design of the Tree of
Life and its hidden symbolism.
The Merkabah Rabbis used this images as the bases of there system
of mysticism. The paper Towards the Sacred Union: The Mystical Journey of the
Soul by Julienne McLean reviews much of the ideas behind the Merkabah Rabbis.
In the Jewish mystical tradition, from ancient times - through the Merkabah and Hekhalot tradition to
medieval Kabbalah to the present time - there has been a constant theme referring to the mystic who
journeys to the Throne of God through the mythological or spiritual realm of the seven heavens. The
earliest phase of Jewish mysticism, before its crystallization in the medieval Kabbalah, is the longest - from
the 1st century BC to the 10th century AD - and is known variously as the Merkabah tradition, Chariot or
throne mysticism. It developed from speculations about the prophetic visions of the Old Testament,
primarily on Genesis, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Kings. Typically, during the early era, the visionary or mystic was
taken up to the heavenly sphere and perceived the Holy One or Divine King sitting on a throne, supported
by a chariot in crystal firmament, and surrounded by fire with the cherubim and four living creatures
nearby.
The first full-scale presentation of Merkabah, or Chariot mysticism, is contained in the visionary writings
known as the Hekhalot books. This literature, dating from the 3rd to the 10th century, elaborates on the
essential themes of the Old Testaments prophetic visions. Primarily, it is based upon the first chapters of
Genesis and Ezekiel. These visionary writings consist of descriptions of certain hekhalot, or heavenly halls
or palaces.
The deepest desire of the mystic was to reach this realm, during ascent to the heavens, in order to
contemplate the splendor of the Shekinah and the majesty of the Holy One. The Gnostic, or mystic,
Journeyed through a series of seven chambers, or palaces, envisaged as a series of concentric circles and in
the seventh and innermost chamber found the throne of the Divine Glory of God.

The Merkabah Rabbis used a system of meditation to enter the seven

palaces of the Qabalah. The method that they used to do this is
unknown. Based on the ADAM KADMON diagram we do find points on
the human form that relate to points of energy with in the body.
Through the use of geometry and the above diagram one can find a
relationship to the eastern idea of chakras.
I believe that the seven palaces
referred to by the Merkabah
Rabbis was a method of path
working up the middle pillar of the
tree, within them selves. Each
palace is a physical energy point
along the middle pillar
The Merkabah Rabbis may have
used a form of meditation or trance
work to uncover the knowledge
needed to enter each of the
palaces that they found alone the
way up the pillar.
The energy points found with this system
would be the Crown being Kether. The throat being the junction point of the 13 and 14
paths. The third point is Daat ruling over the Heart, etc.
The following table will give some ideas as to the relationship and meaning behind the
Merkabah Rabbis system of palaces or energy points within the body
of ADAM KADMON. This will give you the bases to develop the system
of inner palaces and how to travel to them.
