engagedinthestudyofsurahalBayinahthe
twopreviousSurahsofalAlaqdealtwiththe
subjectmatterofhowRevelationbeganand
Surahqadrdealtwiththesubjectmatterof
whereitbegan.ThisisthethirdSurahin
thatseries,andnowwearegoingtostudy
whatistheessenceofrevelation,whatis
revelationitself?Whatimpactdoesithave?
YesitcamedownInLaylatulQadrbutwhat
impactdidithave,whatimpactdidithave
whenitcamedown.Whatistheessence?What
isitscentralmessage?whatisitinitself
andwhatpower,reactionhappensoncethe
revelationcomes.
Thefirst3or4ayatsofthisSurahare
consideredsomeofthemostdifficultayatsin
tafseeraccordingtomanyMufasiroon,andI
willreadsomeofthecommentariesofthe
Mufasiroonaboutthecomplexitypartofthe
firstpartofthisSurah.
IpraythatIamabletoclarifysomeofthese
issuesandwalkyouthroughthemandmyself
InshaAllahwataala.It'sgoodwehad2weeks
offbecauseIwasperplexedfortwoweeks
studyingthefirstayah.Ittakesalongtime
tograsptheconceptastheyareverydeep,
andthequestionsthatarisefromthemare
verydeep.Butwhenwedounderstandthemor
atleastunderstandsomeofthecentralissues
inthem,thebenefitsareprofound.The
benefitsarefullofwisdomandinsight.These

That'sthenatureofQuran,theayatscanbe
veryverysimpletounderstand,anyonecanget
benefitfromthem,andatthesametimethis
bookhasayatthatyouknowcanperplex
Mufasiroonforgenerationsandtherecanbe
debatesaboutjustawordorjustanayat.
It'sverysimpleatthesametimeanditsvery
complexatthesametime.That'sthe
miraculousnatureofthisbook.
SoIwillfirstillwalkyouthrougharough
translationofthefirstayattheniawewill

separated.Munfiqeenaisthewordthatgives
itcomplexityandgivesitlotsandlotsof
discussion.Thereistwowaysofthinking
aboutthosewhodisbelievedfromthepeopleof
thebookwouldnothaveseparatedthemselves,
tocutoneselfoff,theothermeaningisto
discontinuesomething.Youknowwhenyousay
tosomebodycutitout,stopdoingit!They
wouldn'thavestoppeddoingsomethinguntil
theclearestproofcametothem.I'musinga
simplisticmeaningofAlBayinahsayingthe
clearestproof.WewillgetIntoalinguistic

confused.Ifthemajoritysaysitsmakkithen

narrationsaysitsmadani.Butinterestingly
theoneinwhichhesaysisMakkithat's
mostlytaken.That'stheonethat'smostly
accepted.Sotheotheroneperhapsthereis
someweaknessinthenarration.Aisharais
verystronginheropinionthatthisisMakki.
Andreallymypersonalslantisonthat
becausethe..Fromthesahabaseemto
indicatethattheSurahismakki.
ThereasonswhysomescholarssayitsMadani
isbecauseitstalkingaboutthepeopleofthe
book.Andyouallknowthemessengersawcame

Theywouldnotcutthemselvesoffuntilal
Bayinahcame,right?Ortheyweren'tgoingto
stopwhattheyweredoing,whateverthatis
we'regoingtomentioninasecond,untilAl
Bayinahcame.Sowhatissocomplicatedabout
it,letslookatit.
FirstthingmostMufasirooncommentthatthey
weren'tgoingtostoptheirshirkuntilthe
revelationcameThattheywerenotgoingto
discontinuetheirpracticesofassociation
withAllahofdisbeliefofmisguidanceof
ignorance,untiltherevelationcameand
correctedthem.Butthentheproblemsthat
occuristhewordhatah,whenhatahinArabic
isusedmuchlikeEnglish,alittlestronger
thanthatusedinEnglish,forsomethingthat
wasnotthecaseuntilitwasacertainpoint
andthenitwasthecase.ForexampleifI
saidtoyou,ididn'teatuntil5o'clock,
untilhatah,untilbeingtheword.Youknow
whatthatmeans?Idideatafter5oclock.So
iftheayatissayingtheydidn'tdisbelieve
untiltherevelationcame,theydidn'tstop

theirpractices,theydidn'tabandontheir
shirkandtheirkufr,tillrevelationcame.It
willnecessarilyimplythatafterrevelation
came,what?Theyabandonedthosepractices.
Theydidn'tpracticethosethingsanymore,
theyleftthem,butwhenwestudytheseerah
therevelationdidcome,but.Didtheystop?
Manyofthemstoppedbutmanyofthemdidn't.
Sothenhowdoweunderstandthisayat,when
Allahsaidtheystopped,butwhenwelookat
historyweseethattheydidn'tstop.They
didn'tstop.Sothat'sthefirstmajorproblem
thatMufasiroonhavegrappledwithinthis
ayatthat'stheonewearegoingtodealwith

beginningthey'renotgoingtoleave,their
kufruntiltheysawaproof,liketheonethey
demandedinSurahalImran.ButAllahdidnt
justmentionthisdemandfromthepeopleof
thebook,theayatsays...fromthemushriqeen

WhenyoulookatSurahisrayouwillalsofind
...we'renotgoingtoacceptwhatyou're
sayinguntilaspringcomesoutoftheSand,a
waterspringjustgushesoutofthesand,like
asandinthemiddleofthedesert,ifthat

nextlife,howaboutthis?Ifyoucanproduce
agardeninthemiddleofthedesert,madeof

crackopen,howaboutthis?....youjustcut
upapieceoftheskyandbringitdown.How
aboutthat?Sothesearethekindsofdemands
themushriqoonhavemadeandthisintheir
thoughtwasBayinah,thisBayinahmeansa

peoplewhohavebeenmushriqoonfor
generations.Theyimmediatelyleftit.They
leftitforgood,It'snotevenliketheyleft
itforaphasetheyleftitforgood.Andon
theotherhandassoonasislamspreadtothe
PersianempiretheRomanEmpirethesearealso
nationsthatheldontotheirfalsereligion
formanygenerationsButtheimpactofthis

fighters.Whentheywouldlosetheywouldsay

wehaveapartprophecyinourbooksthatThe
finalmessengeriscomingandwhenWhenhe
comesvictoryisguaranteed....Thosearethe
wordsinbaqarah.Theyusedtoimposethat
theywillhavevictoryagainstthe
disbelieversBecausethepromisedmessengeris
coming...Thenwhattheyalreadyrecognisethe
thingthattheyusedtoboastaboutThis
messengerwhenhecamewhattheydisbelieved
inhimTheywereholdingoneventotheirown
bookAndtheywouldn'thavelethimgo
