The present classroom action study dealt with teaching English


vocabulary through drawing game to the fifth grade students of SD N 12
karangasem. The present classroom action study was basically triggered by
the fact that the subjects under study still faced difficulties in learning
vocabulary. The problem of the study can be formulated as follow: to what
extent is the effectiveness of drawing game used to improve the achivement
of vocabulary of the fifth grade students of SD N 12 Karangasem in
academic year 2013/2014. The present classroom action study made use of
pre-test and post-test research design with descriptive analysis. It consists
of two cycles and each cycle there were four succesive sessions. The
present classroom action study started with administering IR to the subjects
under study which was intended to establish the real preexisting ability in
vocabulary of the subjects under study. In addition to administering IR, the
research also interviewed the subjects under study in order to know their
pre-existing learning behaviors, attitudes, motivatio and difficulties in
English vocabulary. The interviews were done in Bahasa Indonesia because
the inerviews were intendedto collect soft data showing the pre-existing
learning behaviors and learning difficulties of the subjects under study. The
results of the first and second interviews which clearly showed that the
ability of vocabulary of the subjects was iow(5.23). The results of the data a
Nnalysis of the reflection scores for cycle I and cycle II figured out the
increasing mean figures of 5.91 for X1 and 6.95 for X2. Obviusly, the
finding of the presents classroom action study revealed thatthe ability of the
fifth grade students of SD N 12 Karangasem in English vocabulary
improved significantly from cycle to cycle after they had been taught
through drawing game.The results of interviews indicated the subjects
learning behaviors and learning diffilcuties in learning vocabulary changed
positively after they had been taught by means of drawing game. In other
words, the findings convincingly proved the effectiveness of drawing game
used in English vocabulary to the fifth grade students of SD N 12
Karangasem,in academic year 2013/2014.
