Port Clinton Yacht Club

Jib Sheet
APRIL 2015

From the Commodore

We made it through
another brutal winter.
The ice is melting in
the lagoon at that
means the risers will
be going in soon! Let
Spring begin!
The Social calendar
has been sent to the
printers and should
arrive at the Club the
beginning of April. To
help reduce the cost of
mailing the calendar,
we would prefer that
you pick it up at the
club. Please see the
Facilities Manager,
Chuck or one of the
bartenders and they
will be glad to give
you a Yearbook. If
youre not able to get
to the club to get a
book, no worries, the
remainder will be
mailed on April 27th.
The Social Committee
has done an outstanding job this year
getting this book ready
for print. Many thanks
to Steve and Mary-Lou
Nellett, Dave and
Cathy Mehl, Andy and
Melisa Schlotterer,
Gloria Denos & Eric
for the pictures and my
wife Terry for all their
hard work. Please review the pool and marina sections, as there
have been some rule
additions and adjust-

ments.
Andy Schlotterer has
worked diligently on
providing a way to
view our social calendar remotely. This will
be done with a link
that may allow you to
sync the Social calendar to your home computer and maybe you
phone too! Look for
this in an email blast in
a week or so. Thank
you Andy!
The clubs dog rules
are very clear, simple,
and apply to everyone
including guests.
There have been three
different incidents reported to myself and I
have witnessed an additional violation of
the leash dog rule.
This rule applies to all
areas of our grounds
and for all seasons, not
just the boating season. DOGS ARE NOT
PERMITTED TO
RUN FREE AT ANY
TIME. This is nonnegotiable. Please
respect the rules of
your club and your
fellow members of the
club.
The Planning Committee Meetings (for
members and spouses)
are right around the
corner. Please mark
your calendars to at-

tend one of these

VERY important
meetings. The first is
on Saturday April 4th
at 2:00 PM and the
second is on Sunday
April 12th at 1:00 PM
at PCYC. PC John
Bolte and the members
of The Planning Committee have invested
many hours in gathering and analyzing the
information that was
requested by the members at the December
4th, 2014 meeting.
This is your opportunity to give input to
the Planning Committee and the Board regarding the pool renovation/replacement
project and future considerations of the layout/use of our grounds.
Additional information
will also be shared on
potential Clubhouse
renovations. I cannot
stress enough how important it is to get to
one of these meetings.
This is your club and
we are looking for
substantial input from
the membership regarding these issues.
(There will be a full
Power Point presentation with handouts at
the meeting)

April is full of great events

which include the allimportant Spring work
party on the 19th! I look
forward to seeing you at
the club.

The Rear Perspective

Spring Work
Party
8:00 to noon
April 19,
followed by a
great lunch.

The opening of the pool,

docks, and grounds is
just around the corner,
finally! There are many
things which need to be
done and the spring work
party, Sunday April
19th, is critical to getting
these jobs done. We
are preparing a long list
of work needed around
the club grounds and in
the clubhouse. We are
dividing the work into
areas. Each area will
have someone to lead the
work and will be well
arranged in advance. Some of these
work areas include
docks, pool, landscape,
government property,
high work needing a lift,
electrical, picnic tables,

beach, clubhouse cleaning, etc. Chuck and I

will be calling in advance asking members to
participate and in what
areas. I have a special
interest in getting some
of the newer members
involved by asking if
they can work. My goal
is simply to have plenty
of work, volunteers and
coordination to make
your time worthwhile. We are a volunteer club and through the
years members giving
their time and talent has
made our club what is
today and held our cost
substantially. Unfortunately we
find the same people
show up to do the work
and we need everyone to
lend a hand. So I invite
all of you, please, to

show up from 8:00 to

noon April 19, followed
by a great lunch. You
will feel good about your
contributions and make a
few new friends along
the way! My thanks in
advance for your participation!
As a member of the Planning Committee and in addition to the Commodore's
request, I would like to pass
along the importance of your
participation in one of the
Planning Committee meetings either Saturday
4/4 or Sunday 4/12. Your
input is absolutely necessary
for us as we move forward
in a direction recommended
by you, our membership, the
most important group in the
club! Major expenditures
are being discussed and your
input is critical to be sure the
correct matters are being
address. See you on the
19th!!!!

Fleet Captain of Sail

Greetings to all PCYC
Members. Well, Spring
is here; at least technically! Now we just need
to send the Ice over the
Falls.
The Spaghetti Dinner
was held Friday, March
20 and was a huge success. A big thanks to PC
John Stefano for the
great dinner and meatballs prepared by Vince
Leon and his son Michael. We sincerely appreciate the support of
our membership. In addition to the support of our
membership we again
had overwhelming support from our Sail Team
parents and kids. Again
thanks to all.

Our next big event is the

famous Bergman Fish
Fry scheduled for Friday,
April 17. In addition to
the Fish Fry Linda
Springer will be arranging a silent auction to
benefit the Sail Team.
We look forward to a
great evening!
The Sail Fleet presented
the North U Sailing Tactics Seminar on Saturday, March 21. This was
a great success with
many of our sailors and
Juniors attending. Our
next and last Seminar
will be Saturday, April
18. This will be a rules
seminar for all our Fleet
and Junior members as
well as those in PCYC

who assist with running

sailboat races. This is
free to our members and
Juniors. This will take
place Saturday morning
at 8:30 till noon. Following that at 1:00 PM will
be the Fleet Spring
Meeting.
Matt Wenzinger has finalized the Learn to Sail
Schedule and is working
on the Race Team Practice Schedule. We will
again have two (2) summer sessions with a
morning and afternoon
class. We are expecting a
large turn out so let us
know what schedule
works best for you and
your kids.
As we move along in our

scheduling we will be
looking for volunteers
to help run our Sunday
Racing. If you would
like to help out let us
know. We will be offering a Clinic April
18 for those interested
in helping to run our
races and those that
just want to know
more about sailing and
running sailboat races.
Finally the Spring ILYA Meeting will be
held March 27-28 in
Perrysburg.
Spring is here! I think.

Fleet Captain of Power

It appears that the
weather is trying to improve as we move into
Spring. Lets hope it
improves quickly because as I am writing
this the lake is still
mostly covered with
ice.
