Understanding the Times
Although the times in which we live
are in many ways alarming and
perplexing, for the child of God, they
are full of ministry opportunities—to a
greater extent than ever before.
Like never before, God’s people need
an understanding of the times—an
awareness of the need of the hour.
We must be like David’s warriors of
old, “men that had understanding
of the times, to know what Israel
ought to do” (I Chronicles 12:32).
It is time for revival! Unfortunately,
we are sometimes slow to recognize
our personal need for revival. As a first
step for corporate revival, R.A. Torrey
admonished, “Let a few people (they
need not be many) get thoroughly
right with God themselves.”
It is time for refreshing! It seems
that people have more burdens now
than ever before, and our prayer
should be for God to use us to lift
these burdens and encourage
Christians. New Testament Baptist
Church should have a spirit of
refreshment and joy. God brings
this refreshment by His Spirit, His
Word, and by His servants.
It is time for refocusing! A new
year is a perfect time to refocus on
what matters most and realign our
vision of ministry with Scripture. An
important part of the process in
refocusing your energy into the
ministry to which God has called you
is developing personal goals.
Someone once said, “A goal is a
planned conflict with the status
quo.” Goals push me to continually
reach beyond the status quo and
strive for constant growth.
May we each be challenged to
understand the times and to
proactively make 2010 count for the
cause of Christ.

TEEN SNOW TUBING
Friday, February 5
Young people (7th-12th grades)
are invited to an exciting and fun
time snow tubing on Friday,
February 5. Cost is just $12.
This will include transportation,
attendance at a youth rally, a
meal, admission, and tube rental.
There is a release form that MUST
be signed.
Parents, encourage your teen to
participate!
Transportation will leave the
church at 6 PM and return to the
church around 1:30 AM.

In an interview published in the Jan. 4, 2010 issue of
Newsweek, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) openly
admits that, in her view, an individual’s free will carries more
weight than the teachings of a church.
“I have some concerns about the church's position respecting a
woman's right to choose. I have some concerns about the
church's position on gay rights. I am a practicing Catholic,
although they're probably not too happy about that. But it is
my faith. I practically mourn this difference of opinion because
I feel what I was raised to believe is consistent with what I
profess, and that is that we are all endowed with a free will
and a responsibility to answer for our actions. And that women
should have that opportunity to exercise their free will.”
Her statement closely parallels the views of many of today’s
Christian youth – and sometimes adults – in Bible-believing
circles, who are increasingly willing to challenge longstanding
doctrinal teachings from the Bible. Their individual view holds
greater value than what the Bible teaches.
Where Will I Spend Eternity?
Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.
Our Dilemma:
We are, by nature, sinners who stand guilty and condemned before
our Creator and Judge. In our thoughts and actions, we have
disobeyed His perfect standards. We are sinners (Romans 3:10,
23).
Our Inability:
We are helpless to save ourselves. Forgiveness is a gift to be
received, not a reward that can be earned. We need a Saviour
(Ephesians 2:8-9).
Our Saviour:
Because of His love for us, God provided salvation through His Son,
Jesus. He became a member of the human family, lived without
sin, and died on the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus is the Saviour
(Romans 5:8; John 3:16).
Our Response:
Salvation is an individual matter and requires a personal response
on the part of anyone that wants to be saved. All who acknowledge
their sin and place their trust in Christ are adopted as God’s
children (Romans 10:9, 13).
At the conclusion of our Sunday services, people are invited
to trust Christ as Saviour. Individuals will be dealt with by
Christians trained in the Bible. Your questions will be
addressed patiently and privately.
