Operating instruction for

EATON-EPLAN-Selektor
This program allows you to select from an item list the articles which you require for
engineering in EPLAN P8 The item list currently includes approximately 9500 types. You can
search for a type, order number or a text, select the required items and output them to a XML
file which you can then import into the EPLAN P8 article database.
When an article represented by a macro in EPLAN this macro will be exported also directly.
Important:
The macros are created with EPLAN P8 2.0.

1. Preparation
Create a new folder, e. g. Eaton Eplan-Selection. (Of course you can select any existing
folder.) Extract in this folder the zip file. During this process the program file and the database
are stored in this directory und a new subfolder called Macro will be created for the EPLAN
macros. Dont rename this folder otherwise the Selection tool couldnt find them.
If you downloaded the program and the macros separately you have to create the subfolder
Macro manually.
After extracting you can start this program immediately.

Note:
This application is not network-compatible. It can be run only locally!!!

2. Starting
Click the EPLANSelection.exe file to start the program.
(For frequent use create a shortcut on your desktop.)

This contains different elements that provide several functions:

Search:
Search in the database for products by order number, type designation or in the
sales text area.
Data:
Import the current EPLAN master data of Eaton products or a selection list fort he
shopping basket.
Buttons:
Carries out the search, opens a list with all items, the cart or exits the program.

3. Selecting and Exporting
Click the Item List button to display all contained articles. This can be sorted by any column.
Clicking the Datasheet opens the corresponding Internet page with the product information.
This shows you the current product data as well as further hyperlinks to the data sheets in
which you can obtain all technical details on the products.
A text in the column Macro informs you that this article is shown by a macro in the EPLAN
system.

You can select the required products in the item list and add them to the cart. To do this use
the Ctrl key and/or the Shift key on your keyboard to select the items; a right click to transfer
them to the shopping basket; alternatively you can click on the button Basket.
(The selection process is therefore the same as in MS Office.)

Click the Cart tab to show the collected articles.

Click the button Export to export now your individual collection as an EPLAN XML file.
In the selected target folder a subfolder will be created named Eaton-Macros.
In this folder are all macros copied which related to the item list.
These macros you have to move now into the current macro folder of EPLAN P8.

4. Search
To avoid searching through the entire database for articles the start screen offers you to
search order number, type or text within the description.
It is also possible here to use partial terms as well to use * as placeholder.

Entering *M9*230V lists all contactors, in this example of type DILM9 with a coil voltage of
230V.
You therefore enter the search term and then press Enter or click the button Search. The
program opens the item list with filtered results.

The same functions are available here as with the entire item list and it is possible to sort by
any column. You can select the required items and add them to the shopping basket.
Click the Cart tab to open the collected articles and start the Export.

5. Import and Updating
Click the button XML-Import to read in the current EPLAN XML file. The current version of
this can always obtained from http://www.moeller.net/en/support/cad_daten/eplan_daten.jsp
or via the EATON CAD button.

Select the Eaton XML file and click open.

A prompt will ask whether the existing data records are to be overwritten or retained.
The Selector imports the selected XML file.

This can take a few minutes. Once the process has ended, the item list is displayed. The date
display in the item list indicates how up-to-date the records are. You can remove the data
records from the item list via the Delete button in the context menu.

6. Reading in a selection list for the shopping basket
Click the button CSV file on the start screen to import a CSV file with EATON order numbers.
An example file can be opened via the link with the same name.
This useful for example if a parts list already exists as an Excel file. A corresponding CSV file
can be generated from this without any problem.
After the read operation the program opens the item list with the types that were read in.

The Crtl a key combination highlighted all items to be selected and a click on Basket
transferred them in the Cart, from where the export can be started.

7. XML-Import in EPLAN P8
To do this, start the P8 program.
Choose Service Programs > Items and then select Management function.

The import function is provided under Tools.

In the subsequent dialog select the XML file exported from the Selector.

After the reading operation, close the Item Management and open the Item data navigator.

From the Item master data window you can drag an item across to the graphic window.
Depending on the function table or macro you can then place the symbol in the circuit.
