All data was collected online. Fieldwork was done in March 2015. The total number of respondents
was 5,774.

Section 2

Overview Of Current Job

Summary
Overall, 4 out of 10 respondents are satisfied with their present job, with 18% of them being very
satisfied.
Respondents in Egypt seem more satisfied with their current job; close to one fourth claim that
they are very satisfied.
The benefits currently received from companies vary significantly from country to country. Overall,
63% of the respondents have medical insurance for themselves.
58% have a holiday pay, while almost 1 out of 2 receive a sick pay.
In terms of preferences, accommodation (43%) and medical insurance for both self (38%) and
family (38%) are the most popular benefits.
Due to high rental prices, accommodation is more important in GCC (52%) especially in the UAE
(55%) when compared to Levant (25%) or North Africa (30%)
43% of respondents do not see themselves working for the same employer for the next two years,
while 61% are actively trying to move to another organization. 1 out of 2of respondents strongly
believe that they could easily find a similar job.
Low base salary (66%) followed by lack of career growth opportunities (62%) are the two main
reasons for leaving an organization.

Summary
At an emotional level, one third of the respondents feel proud, motivated or enjoy going to work
every day.
Overall, close to one third (28%) believe that the performance of their organization is improving.
In general, the levels of trust towards both senior management and line managers are low.
Interestingly, respondents show more confidence in the decisions made by their line managers
than those made by senior management

Satisfaction with current job


Overall, 4 out of 10 respondents (40%) are satisfied with their present job; 18% of them are very satisfied.
Respondents in Egypt seem more satisfied with their current job; close to one fourth (24%) claim that they are
very satisfied. Kuwait follows at 23%.

Benefits currently received

One third (33%) feel very motivated to give their best to their company, with respondents from Kuwait being more
motivated (40%) than others.
Employees in GCC (34%) are generally more motivated as compared to Levant (30%) and North Africa (30%).

30% of respondents really enjoy going to work every day, with respondents in Levant enjoying this to a lesser extent (21%)
in comparison to GCC (31%) or North Africa (30%)

Overall performance of the organization


Overall, 28% believe that the performance of their organization is improving.
Respondents in Lebanon seem somewhat more optimistic, with 37% of them feeling that their organizations performance is
becoming better.
On the other hand, 35% of those in Jordan believe the opposite.

48% of respondents from Morocco strongly disagree with that.

Low levels of trust towards senior management are noticed: 22% have a strong confidence in the decisions made by senior
management in their organization while 37% have an opposite opinion.
Respondents from Morocco seem somewhat the most negative at 47%.

A higher proportion of employees in Levant (48%), and especially in Lebanon (50%), are likely to seek another job

Reasons for leaving an organization


Low base salary (66%) followed by a lack of career growth opportunities (62%) are the main reasons for quitting.

Evaluation of General Working


Conditions

Summary
Only 15% believe that their company shows an interest in the wellbeing of its employees, with
respondents from North Africa, and especially from Morocco (10%), believing that to a lesser extent.
Just over one third claim that they have a good work-life balance, while one fourth believe the opposite.
A higher proportion of respondents from UAE (32%) are less happy with the working hours.
One out of four respondents are satisfied with their current level of security, with employees in Algeria
being somewhat more satisfied (34%).
Close to one third are satisfied with the level of autonomy they have in their job.
Respondents from North Africa feel more autonomous (30%) as compared to employees in GCC (26%)
and Levant (24%)
Regionally, around 40% do not believe that their line manager is good at managing people.
Respondents from Morocco seem slightly less happy with the managerial skills of their line manager.

Summary
Over 30% claim that they have an interesting job, with respondents from Qatar (43%) and Tunisia
(44%) believing that to a greater extent.
On the other hand, respondents from Levant find their work somewhat less interesting.
Almost 1 out of 2 claim that there is a mutual respect within their team. This belief is less strong in GCC
(42%), especially in the UAE (35%) and Bahrain (37%).
Over 40% strongly believe that their pay is not fair compared to similar jobs in other companies.
Employees in Morocco (52%) and Algeria (55%) claim that to a greater extent.
The perception of receiving a fair salary compared to similar jobs in the same company is low across all
countries.
A higher percentage of employees in Bahrain (46%) and Morocco (52%) consider their pay to be unfair.

Evaluation of Training and


Development Opportunities

Summary
Close to one fourth of respondents strongly believe that they use their skills and knowledge to their full
potential.
On the other hand, only two out of ten seem happy with the training opportunities that exist in their
companies.
Respondents from Kuwait seem somewhat happier with the training opportunities they are offered than
others.
Overall, 38% claim that they use their skills and knowledge to their full potential a feeling that is
higher in the GCC and especially in Kuwait (46%), Qatar (47%) and Bahrain (49%).
Approximately one out of four believe that they have a clear career path, while 41% claim the opposite.
A higher proportion of respondents from North Africa (29%) have a clear career path, in comparison to
respondents from GCC (22%) and from Levant (21%).
At a country level, respondents of Lebanon and Bahrain believe to have a clear career path to a lesser
extent (14% and 17% respectively)
Approximately half of respondents think that the trainings provided are not designed in a way that
would help them grow professionally. Respondents in Levant feel this to a greater extent (52%) than
those in the GCC (47%) or North Africa (48%).

Evaluation of training and development opportunities


Close to one fourth (38%) of respondents strongly believe that they use their skills and knowledge to their full
potential. However, only 2 out of 10 seem happy with the training opportunities that exist in their companies.

Salary is one of the most important factors in a job. However, attributes related to personal growth
and achievement are also considered as important.
The great majority of respondents (85%), believe that working in a company that encourages
learning and personal growth is very important. Those from Tunisia believe this to a greater extent
(92%).
Overall, pay is important for 83% of the respondents.
On a regional level, no difference is observed (GCC: 83%, Levant: 82%, North Africa: 83%).
On a country level, the salary seems to be somewhat more significant for employees in Jordan and
Tunisia.
Team spirit is important for 82% of respondents, and it is slightly more significant in North Africa
(84%) than GCC (81%) or Levant (81%).
80% claim that doing what they love is very important. Respondents from GCC believe that to a
