Nuaym bin Hammaad [d.

Muhammad bin Ismaaeel (al-Bukhaaree) is the Faqeeh of this Ummah.

- Arabic Text from Sharh Usool al-Itiqaad of al-Laalikaaee

- English Translation

.: The Creed of al-Imaam al-Bukhaaree [d.256H] - rahimahullaah :.

Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Hafs al-Harwee said:
Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Salamah narrated to us, saying:
Abool-Husayn Muhammad bin Imraan bin Moosaa al-Jarjaanee
narrated to us saying:
I heard Aboo Muhammad Abdur-Rahmaan bin Muhammad bin
Abdur-Rahmaan al-Bukhaaree - from ash-Shaash -saying:
I heard Aboo Abdillaah Muhammad bin Ismaaeel al-Bukhaaree
saying:

Speech And Action

That the religion consists of (both) speech and action an this is due to
the saying of Allah:
And they were commanded not, but that they should worship
Allaah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from
ascribing partners to Him), and perform As-Salaah and give
Zakaah: and that is the right religion. (Soorah al-Bayyinah 98:5)

The Quraan
And the Quraan is the Speech of Allaah, not being created due to His
saying:
Indeed your Lord is Allaah, Who created the heavens and the earth
in Six Days, and then He Istawaa (rose over) the Throne (really in a
manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over
the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the
stars subjected to His Command.

Aboo Abdullaah Muhammad ibn Ismaaeel said: Ibn Uyaynah said,

So Allaah made distinct the creation (khalq) from the command (amr)
(in the remainder of the verse):
Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed be Allaah,
the Lord of the Aalameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!

The Qadar or Pre-Decree

And that good and evil is by preordainment (qadar) of Allaah due to
His saying:
Say: I seek refuge with (Allaah) the Lord of the daybreak. From
the evil of what He has created (Soorah al-Falaq 113:1-2)
While Allaah has created you and what you make!
(Soorah as-Siffat 37:96)
and due to His saying:
Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine
Preordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the
Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfz).
(Soorah al-Qamar 54:49)
And none of them (the above mentioned people of knowledge) used
to declare anyone from among the people of the qiblah a disbeliever
on account of committing a sin, due to His saying:
Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with
him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to
whom He pleases. (Soorah an-Nisaa' 4:48)

The Companions And Their Honor

And I saw amongst them anyone who would take something from
(the honor of) the Companions of Muhammad (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa
sallam). Aa'ishah, radiyallaahu 'anhaa, said, They were commanded to
seek forgiveness for them due to His saying:
And those who came after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and
our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our
hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You
are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.
(Soorah al-Hashr 69:10)

Innovations
And they used to forbid innovations: whatever the messenger
(sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions, radiyallaahu
'anhum, were not upon due to His saying:
And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allaah (i.e. this
Quraan), and be not divided among yourselves. (Soorah Aali
Imraan 3:103)
and due to His saying:
If you obey him, you shall be on the right guidance
(Surah an-Noor)

Following The Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam

And the used to urge (people) to (follow) what the Messenger,
sallallaahu 'allahi wa sallam, and his Companions, radiyallaahu 'anhum,
were upon due to His saying:
And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not
(other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This

He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the
pious - see V.2:2). (Soorah al-An'aam 6:153)

Dealing With The Rulers

And that we do not contend with or attempt to take away the
command from those assigned with it (i.e., the rulers) due to the
saying of the Messenger, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, There are three
things towards which the heart of a Muslim never shows hatred or
rancor: Making ones action sincerely for the sake of Allah, giving
obedience to the rulers (wulatul amr) and sticking to their group
(jamaaah) for verily, their supplication encompasses those who are
behind them (i.e. those whom they rue over)." Then this is confirmed
in His saying:
O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger
(Muhammad), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority.
(Soorah an-Nisaa' 4:59)
And that the sword is not to be raised against (any of) the Ummah of
Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.
And al-Fudhayl (bin Iyyaad) said, If I had a supplication that would
be answered, I would no make it except fro the leader (imam)
because when the leader becomes righteous, the towns and servants
become safe and secure.
Ibn al-Mubaarak said (in reference to the above saying of al-Fudhayl),
O teacher of goodness, who would show boldness towards this
besides you?
