Teaching Sequence

Aim: To recognise aero terrestrial animals of South America. To raise awareness


about animals in extinction. To utilise technological devices
Learning outcome: to produce a video about South American animals in
extinction.
Content:Los cambios en la naturaleza
The lesson: Animals of South America
Course: 6th . 30 students
Total of classes: Three of 50 each
First class
Linguistic exponents: There is a/an (animal) Have you ever seen..? Where
have you seen? In (country/habitat)
preparation: Teacher explains students they are going to watch a video about
South America. Teacher asks about the name of South American countries.
Then Teacher encourage to provide names of animals they have learnt from
Science class. Teacher makes a list on the blackboard.
core task: Students watch the video Animals of South America, they can take
notes of the animals they recognise. Teacher gives students a sheet of paper
with names of animals and students tick the names they know or recognise.
Then, Student share and check within groups of four children maximum.
follow up: Teacher asks: What animals are in the video? Students can read from
the paper or answer in L1. Teacher provides English version. The whole class
check. Teacher asks: Have you ever seen one of them? Where?
First class evaluation criteria: Do they share? Do they recall previous
knowledge? Do they try to use L2 in front of the class? Are they shy?
Materials for first class: a video National Geographic: Animals of
South America from Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wvPuLuZgUk,
downloaded with atubecatcher downloader. Sheets of paper with names of
animals.

Second class
Linguistic exponents: This is a(animal). They live in (country/habitat)It is
(colour) It has (long tail/small eyes/etc)
Preparation: Teacher shows a powerpoint presentation with pictures of different
animals in extinction of South America with the name of country or countries
they live. Students name the animals they remember in L2.
Core: Teacher and students download the presentation on students' netbooks or
iphones. In groups students watch and choose one animal from the ppt. In a
sheet of paper they draw, colour label and write the name, country or habitat it
belongs. They can also describe it using colours, parts of the body or
adjectives.Teacher gathers the drawings and descriptions.
Follow up: Teacher gives a photocopy with pictures and descriptions of two
different types of chinchillas, Students read and write the name of each
according to the text.

Second class evaluation criteria: Do they recall English words? Do they know
how to play a powerpoint presentation? Do they gather information from
reading?
Materials for second class: A power point presentation. Laptop and Projector for
the teacher. Notebooks or iphones for students. Blank sheets of paper.
Photocopies.

Third class
Linguistic exponents: This is (animal). It lives in .(country or
habitat) It has (big head/ stripes) Give opinions about animals
extinction Its (OK/wrong). Give opinions about the Final product .
I like it. I dont like it.
Preparation: Students describe the drawings and tell what they know
and feelings about the animal while teacher records with Audacity.
Teacher prepares a Video with the drawings and the voices.
Core: Teacher uploads the video and students open the link from
facebook /email or download the video to their netbooks or iphones.
In groups students watch, rate and review the video. They rate the
video in a grid with a rating criterion from one to ten stars. They
comment about the Video.
Follow up: Students share the final product with the class, family and
friends.
Third class evaluation criteria: Do they recall vocabulary and language
patterns? Do they participate and express feelings? Do they give
opinions critically?
Materials for third class: Laptop and Audacity application for the teacher.
Windows Movie Maker application for editing pictures with sound. Netbooks or
iphones for the students. Photocopies with a grid to grade with stars for the
students.

Whole Lesson evaluation criteria


Previous knowledge recall. Words and patterns recognition. Oral and
written patterns production. Information gathering from images and
texts. Technology usage. Task engagement. Critical thinking.
