cultures and its gambling industry, which includes Casino Lisboa, Macau, Sands

Gambling Tourism
Macau is well known for its gambling industry.[2] It attracts many people to go there
every year. Besides gambling industry and casino, it also has a deep history. Macau
was managed by Portugal in 1631.[3] After Macau returned to China, many tourists
traveled to Macau. At the beginning, most of the tourists were from Hong Kong.[4]
[5] However, after the government of China had published the liberalizing of travel
policies, a large number of tourists were from the mainland, since then the number
of tourists has started to rise. Most of the visitors like to go to the well-known tourist
sites, such as Senado Square, A-Ma Temple and Ruins of St. Paul's. Since Macau is a
small place, therefore too many tourists can cause problems to the residents that is
it makes the places very crowded. Not only those Chinese mainland people are
interested in those places, but also it attracts many different foreign countries
tourists.[6] Moreover, since Macaus development is very close to the mainland, as
a result the Chinese government has put a lot of effort to build a new Macau.
Chinese government is building the tourism industry and other leisure activity in
order to make the value of Macau grown up more forward.[7][8]

Culture of Macau

The culture of Macau is characterized by the fusion between the Portuguese and
Chinese cultures. With most of the population being Chinese, one would expect the
total assimilation of the Portuguese over the past four centuries (as seen in
Portuguese Goa, India). However, this has not been the case at least until the past
decade or so. Before 1974, Portugal had a permanent military station in Macau.
Hence, there were always Portuguese men sent to Macau to complete their
compulsory military service. Many decided to stay and settle down after their
service was completed.
People and languages
Macau's population consists of mostly Han Chinese (95%) and Portuguese (2%),
with a minority of other ethnicities. Although both Chinese (Cantonese) and
Portuguese are the official languages of the region,[1] most of the residents speak
Cantonese. Currently there is only one school in Macau where Portuguese is the
medium of instruction.
The Macanese language, generally known as Patu, is a distinctive Creole that is
still spoken by several dozen Macanese, an ethnic group of mixed Asian and
Portuguese ancestry that accounts for a small percentage of Macau's population.
Signs in Macau are displayed in both Traditional Chinese and Portuguese. In contrast
to mainland China, Macau, along with Hong Kong and Taiwan, generally does not
use Simplified Chinese Characters.

Cuisine
Macanese cuisine is a blend of southern Chinese and Portuguese cuisines, with
significant influences from Southeast Asia and the Lusophone world. The most
famous snack is the Portuguese-style egg tart. It is widely popular in Southeast Asia,
especially in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The most famous Macanese food is Galinha
Portuguesa which is served in numerous varieties in Macau restaurants.

The Venetian Hotel
There are certain cities in the world that are known as gambling destinations, one of
those is Macau. As a result there are several hotels and casinos in the city in order
to attract visitors from out of town. One of the most popular options is the Venetian
Macau which is the largest casino and hotel in the city.

The Venetian Macau is a casino and hotel that is owned by Sands. It is modeled on
the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas although it is quite a bit bigger. In fact at the time
that it was completed it was the second largest building in the world in terms of
floor space. It has now fallen to sixth place in that regard which is a little shocking
given that it has only been open for four years. The Venetian Macau not only
includes a hotel and a casino but a huge shopping area, a convention center and a
fifteen thousand seat arena as well.
The Venetian Macau is one of the hotels and casinos that are being built along the
Cotai Strip. This is an area that is intended to be similar to the Las Vegas strip with
several large casinos located in one area. In fact most of the casinos that are being
built in the area are owned and operated by the same companies that run the
casinos in Las Vegas. Due to space constraints however the Cotai Strip will have to
be much smaller than the one in Las Vegas, eight casinos appears to be the limit.
Nevertheless it is poised to become the main tourist area in Macau.
The main focus of the Venetian Macau is of course the casino. In this case there are
actually four separate casinos that each has their own theme. Between them the
casinos have over 3400 slot machines and over 800 gaming tables. In addition there
is a club area for the high rollers who are given special access and private gaming
rooms. The casino at the Venetian Macau is one of the largest in the world and it
attracts thousands of gamblers every day.
The Venetian Macau offers hotel accommodation of course as they need to be able
to bring in gamblers from around the world. There are over three thousand rooms in
the hotel on floors seven to thirty eight. These rooms come in a variety of different
price ranges so there is something for all visitors. Regardless of what price range
you are looking for you can expect that you will get an excellent room and
outstanding service. This is the case with the hotel at most casinos of course as
they want to get guests to choose to stay at their hotel so they will gamble in their
casino. Nevertheless the Venetian does it better than most other hotels.
Formerly administered by the Portuguese, this high-energy city on the South China
Sea is world-famous as a gaming destination and has also begun attracting visitors
with an increasing array of shows, entertainment, and nightlife. The city's historic
center, with its rich blend of Chinese and European architecture and culture, has
been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tourism in Macau
A lot of people are surprised to learn that Macau is one of the world's most popular
tourist destinations. When you realize that it is one of the major gambling centers in
the world this starts to make more sense. There is no getting around the fact that
most of the people who go to Macau go to gamble, but there are other reasons that
you may want to go.
The reason that the vast majority of tourists go to Macau is to gamble. Macau is one
of the most popular gambling destinations in the world attracting more visitors for
this than even Las Vegas. It should therefore come as no surprise that there are a
large number of large casinos and hotels in the city to cater to the gamblers.
Gamblers actually represent about forty percent of the GDP of Macau which tells
you just how important it is to the local economy, and just how many people visit
the city each year to gamble.
Over the last few years the owners of the casinos in Las Vegas have started building
casinos in Macau and that has created a whole new tourist sector for the city. These
new casinos are huge complexes that have a number of different things to offer
besides gambling. The most popular option are the many shows that are held at
these facilities. Some of the biggest stars in world perform regularly at the casinos
and there are now many people who make the trip just to see these. A lot of these
shows are long running performances that last for years so that you can see them
whenever you happen to visit. Other shows will require that you plan your trip just
to see them.
In addition to the shows the casinos have also started to host sporting events that
attract large numbers of visitors. The most common of these are boxing and mixed
martial arts which are fairly easy to arrange. There have also recently been several
high profile basketball games played in Macau. The main purpose of these events is
to bring in the gamblers but there are many people who will attend just to watch the
sports.
There are of course people who visit Macau for reasons that have nothing to do with
gambling. It is a city that has a long history and this means that there are quite a
few thing s for the tourist to see. The city is a strange mixture of Chinese and

Portuguese culture that you are not going to see anywhere else in the world. The
city has a decidedly European feel although most of the people who live in the city
are Chinese. There are a number of celebrations that combine both Portuguese and
Chinese customs so you will be able to see things that you wouldn't see anywhere
else.
Comprising over 20 ancient monuments and urban squares interwoven in the heart
of the city, the historic district is collectively known as "The Historic Centre of
Macau" and inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2005. It stands today as a living
testimony to the integration and co-existence of eastern and western cultures over
a unique chapter in history. Leisurely explore the Historic Centre of Macau you will
discover various magnificent heritages and unveil their wonderful stories!
