As technology develops over time, new and improved gadgets are made.
In the present time,
computers have overwritten the existence of typewriters, thus making the latter obsolete. Throughout the years, its existence has become an integral part of society. Everyone, either rich or poor, has access to it. A computer is an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in its own memory that can accept data, process data according to specified rules, produce results, and stores the results for future use. It has the advantages of speed, reliability, consistency, storage, and communications (Shelly & Vermaat, 2011). Students of todays generation are considered lucky since before, one really has to take his/her time at the library in order to obtain information. Now, one is able to have instant access to unlimited information from around the world through the help of search engines such as Google. Also, it has helped families and loved ones who are far apart from each other connect through the use of telecommunication devices such as mobile phones. In Dubai, Coke installed five special booths which accepted Coke bottle caps instead of coins for the benefit of its migrant laborers. This made them happy since it is had become more affordable to call their loved ones outside the country - $1 international call per minute as compared to 54 cents to that of coke (Vara, 2014). However, it is to be noted that these computers are also coupled with certain disadvantages. These disadvantages relate to the violation of privacy, public safety, impact on labor force, health risks, and impact on environment (Shelly & Vermaat, 2011). Nowadays, there are those individuals who attempt phishing wherein one would steal the username, password, and credit card information from an unsuspecting victim for motives of theft, blackmail, and as such. In the world of mobile phones, there are those who use false advertising in order to trick people to send them load. People die due to texting while driving. Whats worse is that people also die just by taking a selfie. Based on the news, a girl student from Rizal High School died wherein the cause of death was falling from the stairs while taking a selfie. (Cueto, 2014). Advancement of technology isnt always a good thing. Individuals who become so addicted to computers, particularly video games tend to perform badly in school, become more aggressive, and experience health problems such as obesity, backaches, headaches, eye strain, and thus more (Christopher, 2014) Indeed, computers have changed the lives of many people. Through its improvement, different types of medicine have been developed in order to treat various types of sicknesses. However it can also ruin ones life if not used properly. Thus it is important to set boundaries when using computers. Ones life shouldnt center on it. There are more significant things such as relationships with family, studies for ones future, and many more. One must be responsible for his/her actions, keeping in mind its possible consequences.
