Thisstudyfocusesononeofcomponentintheimplementationof
professionaldevelopment,itistheteachingskill.Basedonthepreviousstudy
conductedbyGraceIkaYuwonoandLesleyHarbon(2010)statethatEnglish
teacherprofessionalisminIndonesiaisunique,isoftendifferentfromwhatis
constructedbycommonliteratureonteacherprofessionalism,theyhaveexplored
howEnglishteachersinIndonesiaperceiveandconstructtheir
professionalismandprofessionaldevelopmentintermsoftheirmotivesof
becomingateacher.Thepurposesofthestudyaretoknowthewayofteachers
developtheirteachingskill,toknowtheprobemsthatfacedbytheteacherin
teachinglearningactivities,andtoknowthewaytosolvetheproblems.
ThesubjectofthestudyistheEnglishteacherswhohaveeducator
certificateatMTs.AlIbrohimiManyarGresik.Theinstrumentthatisusedinthis
researchisinterviewandobservation.InterviewisgiventoEnglishteachersand
observationisheldtotheteachertoknowwhentheteachersimplementthe
professionaldevelopmentintheirteachinglearningprocess.
Thisstudyrevealsthefollowingfinding.Basedontheobservationand
interview,theteachersdeveloptheirprofessionalismrelatedwithteachingskill
by:joiningworkshoporinhousetraining,seminars,colloquium,panel
discussions,orotherformsofscientificmeetingseitherasadiscussantorparticipants,
whichisheldbytheschoolitselforeithereducationalinstitutions.Thenextby
conductingassessment,theassessmentisintheformofperformanceappraisal
organizedbyschool.Then,joiningDeliberationSubjectTeachers,fromtheforum
theteacherscanexchangeteachingexperiencebetweenteachersfromother

schools,makingalotofinstructionalmediaasgoodaspossibletosupport
teachinglearningprocess,andreadingjournalsorarticlesthatcontainedteacher
professionaldevelopment.Itmeansthatthewaystoimproveprofessional
developmentisnotquitedifferentwiththetheorybySukanti(2012).
Basedontheobservationandinterview,manydifficultieswerefound
duringtheteachersimprovetheteachingskill.Howevertheycouldovercomeit.
Theteachertriedtoovercomethelackoffacilitieswithutilizinginstructional
media,althoughstillrelativelyasconventionalmediaormaximizetheuseofcardsor
studentsworksheets.Althoughcompilingteachingdevicespentalotoftime,
butteachersanticipatebyadaptingtheteachingdeviceofthepreviousschoolyear.The
nextproblemwasrelatedeachother,itwasthedifficultiestoapplylessonplan
andteachingmethodinteachinglearningprocess.Itwascausedbythelessinput
ofstudents.Toovercomethisproblemtheteacherapproachedthestudentto

determinehowmuchabsorptionofstudents.Astheconsequenceofthescenarioof
teachinginlessonplancouldnotbeappliedproperly,howevertheteachertried
toconveythematerialinaccordancewiththe
syllabusandthecompetencystandard/basiccompetence.Thelast,theteacherdid
notmastertechnology.Althoughtheteachescouldnotholdacomputerbased
learning,butteacherstilltriedtobeagoodfigureinteachingEnglish.Theteacher
preferedtouselecturemethodandconventionalmediasuchasbookandcard.
Theresearcherrecommendedsuggestionfortheteachersandtheprincipal
toalwaysestablishgoodcommunicationinorderthepurposeof
learninginMTs.AlIbrohimicouldbeachieved.Thisstudywasfarfromperfect,soit
wouldbebetteriftheotherresearcherdidstudyinthesametopicbutfocusedon
othercomponentsofteacherprofessionaldevelopment.
