Example;
This Saturday was not going to be a normal Saturday in the De Silva household. The day before, the
family decided that father and son would swap duties with mother and the two girls. Everyone was looking
forward to this.
Before long, Mother, Samantha and Sheila had put on their shorts, hats and their long-sleeved shirts to
shelter them from the evening sun. They carried a hoe, a spade and other gardening tools and went to the spot
where they wanted to build a fish pond. Soon they were busy digging a hole. Then they laid some waterproof
material in it, to form the base of the pond. Before filing it up with water, they decorated the spot with some
rocks and plants which they bought from the nursery. It was hard but rewarding work.
Father and Stanley were not lazing around. They put on a borrowed apron each and started work in the
kitchen. Father washed and cut a chicken. Stanley did the same with some vegetables. Before long, Father was
ready to cook the chicken and the vegetables. Stanley cooked the rice. Delicious smells filled the kitchen and
both Father and Stanley were pleased with the results of their hard work.
All of them cleaned up and showered before dinner time. Dinner, which was delicious, was served and
eaten out in the garden, just beside the new fish pond. They believed dinner was made even more enjoyable as
they relaxed, enjoyed each others company and admired the results of their labour.
