WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGY?
Greek language : psyche = jiwa
logos = ilmu
pengetahuan
Psychology = Ilmu jiwa
Ilmu yang mempelajari tentang jiwa, baik
mengenai macam-macam
gejalanya,prosesnya maupun latar
belakangnya.

WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGY?
The science of behavior and mental process.

As a science it uses scientific principles,


methods, and procedures.
As a science it is committed to objectivity,
accuracy and healthy skepticism

WHO IS PSYCHOLOGIST?
A person who studies behavior and uses
behavioral principles in scientific research
or in applied settings for the treatment of
emotional or other mental problems

ASPECTS OF PSYCHOLOGY
Because psychologists study mental
process and behavior, they observe most
all aspects of human functioning:
Overt actions
Mental processes
Emotional responses
Physiological reactions

Overt actions
It means any directly observable and
measurable movement or the products of
such movement.
Eg: Walking, talking, playing, kissing,

Mental processes
It includes ideas, reasoning processes,
and any thoughts about being angry or
happy or sad

Emotional responses
It includes anger, regret, happiness or
depression

Physiological reactions
It includes an increased heart rate when
you are excited, biochemical changes
when light stimulates your eye, or reaction
to stress, such as high blood pressure
