Purpose of job:
To assist in providing quality administrative and management support to HR operation of British Council,
Bangladesh to comply in all aspects of Human Resources task, including Learning & Development,
Performance Management, Recruitment, induction and other day to day operational tasks of core HR.
This post holder will also extend support to the Head HR and the HR Manager to implement and manage
new / various initiatives in the British Council Bangladesh.

The British Council, part of the South Asia regional structure, is well-established in Bangladesh having
opened the first office in 1953 and is a Tier 1 country for the organisation. This is a large and high priority
British Council operation. Human Resources department is established around four years back, and is
intended to work as a Human Resource Business Partner with every operation in Dhaka, Chittagong
and Sylhet.
This post sits within a small HR team in Dhaka and will directly support two people in the team to function
as competently and effectively possible. The individual needs to be a proactive, resourceful and able to
work with minimal direction.
Key context : The post holder should be able to maintain employee confidence and protects
operations by keeping human resource information confidential
Recruitment:

Make arrangement of publishing job advertisement in the newspapers and/or web sites or using erecruitment.

To carry out the pre-employment checks that includes, preparing drafting of contracts, reference
checking, medical examinations, etc. have been completed before a new recruit start working for
British Council, Bangladesh.

To Support the HR manager to ensure that new starter receives proper induction and follow up on
the post induction.
Be the first point of contact for the external and internal applicants.

Performance Management:
To ensure that all copies of performance evaluations are collected and filed accordingly.
Responsible to update the yearly rating in all relevant data.

Learning and Development:


To ensure that staff training database is up to date includes records of all training of individuals.
Arranging all the logistics for staff training.
Supporting HR team in the development and implementation of learning and development plan for
British Council Bangladesh.
Operational HR:
To update and maintain individuals HR personal files, including certificates and salary updates.
Ensure all staff have their leave record in place (whether manually or online)
Manage and update staff information and record database.
Update the organogram for British Council Bangladesh.
Make sure that all necessary HR policies and documents are filed properly in both hard and soft
copy.
Provide HR support to the operational teams in terms of handling basic HR queries and providing
necessary HR forms.
Work with the line managers to make sure that all the corporate procedures are following during
resignation.
Prepare and maintain all kind of HR records for the HR team.

Working with line managers to ensure that staff resignation/exit process is managed properly.
Maintain the exit interview data for the HR team.

Professional knowledge and awareness


Knowledge of British Council corporate HR policies and initiatives is up-to-date and used to
improve country systems and practices

Good awareness of major developments in corporate HR strategy and external trends.

Knowledge of Bangladesh labour laws is up-to-date and is used to assess the impact on British
Council staff.

Own self development is managed.


Any other HR specified task assigned by the HR TEAM.

The post holder will understand and make decisions which are affected by Equal Opportunity and

The post holder will need to be flexible in terms of frequent in country travel and weekend and
evening work.
