BASICDETAILOFSRIYANTRA.

Sri Yantra is a symbolic representation of the Devi Lalita/Tripura Sundari. At the creation of the
universe,LordShivadelivered64Yantrasforthematerialisticandspiritualwelfareofthecreatures.For
HisconsortDeviParvati,Heprovided,SriChakra(Yantra),whichcombinesalltheYantrasintoone.As
suchworshipofSriChakraisconsideredasoneofthehighestformsofworshipoftheDevi(SriVidya).

ItisworshippedbyconsideringtheSriChakramainlyinthreeparts.

The outermost 3 lines known as Bhupura. It symbolizes the groundplane of temple with 4
Squareopenings,inthe4directionsofspace.Thissanctuaryistheseat(Pitha)ofoneschosen
deity(IstaDevata),representingonesHigherSelf.

Twoconcentriccircles,wearingregularlotus(Padma)design.Theinnerpatternhasaperiod
of8,Theouteroneaperiodof16.Thesepatternssymbolizethesanctityoftheinnerdiagram.

Aninnerfigureofinterpenetratingtriangles.Thisfigure,Symmetricinitsverticalcentralaxis,
contains4upwardpointingtriangles(Vahini,ThePerson)and5downwardpointingtriangles
(Sakti, Prakriti, i.e. Energy of divinity). From the 5 downward pointing triangles (Shakti,
Energy of divinity) comes creation and from the 4 upward pointing triangles (Vahini, The
Person representing Siva) comes the dissolution. Their interpenetration symbolizes the
complementarity of opposite principles in creating the illusion of duality through ignorance,
whereasthegeneralsymmetryandbalanceofthewholefiguresymbolizesthemoreprofound
realityofUnityofGodthroughitsvariousunfolding.

AtthecentreofthebinduoftheShriYantraisKamakala,whichhasthreebindus.Oneisred,
oneiswhiteandoneismixed.TheredbinduisKurukullatheFemaleform(Energy,Shakti),the
white bindu is Varahi the Male form (Shiva, Sadhaka), and the mixed bindu is the union of
Shiva&ShaktitheindividualasthepotentialShriYantra.

TheSriYantrais composedofnineChakraorAwarna,countingfromtheouterplaneofthe
Bindu.Theninechakrassymbolicallyindicatedsuccessivephaseintheprocessofbecoming.
Theyrankfrom theearthlyplaneandrise slowlystep bystep to thefinal point,thestepof
supremejoy.ByenteringintotheelanvitaloftheYantra,theadeptreintegratedwithit.The
nine chakras within SriYantra move from the gross and tangible to the sublime and subtle
realms.

1. TrilokyamohanaChakra:

Theoutermostperipheryconsistsofasquare,withfourgates.ThisisBhupura,theground
plane, of Sri Yantra. Inside the square there are three concentric circles, indicates of
girdles(mekhala).ThespacebetweentheBhupuraandMekhalaistheTrailokyaMohana,
the Enchantressof the Triple World. At this stage the adept is infatuated by aspirations
anddesires.

Next two concentric rings of 16 & 8 lotus petals, respectively. Each petal in the circle
indicatingfulfillmentofdesires.

4. SarvasoubhagyadayakChakra:

This is giver of auspiciousness, projects the realm of possibilities in spiritual ascent. It


consists of fourteen triangles forming the outer rim of the complex interlocking of
triangles.

These two Chakras each constructed of ten triangles. Accomplisher of all purpose and

8. SarvasiddhipradaChakra:

The invert trangle is the eighth chakra, giver of all accomplishments; it denotes a stage
beforetheconsummationofrealization.

9. SarvanandamayaChakra:

ThelastChakra,theBindu,fullofbliss.Itisthesanctumsanctorum,aboundinginjoy,in
whichtheadeptparticipatesinunion.Thepointislightitself,beyondallcolours.

2. SarvaswaparipurakaChakra:

16 petals circle known as Sarvaswaparipuraka Chakra, the fulfiller of all desires. The
presiding form of Lalita in this Avarana is Tripureshi. The 16 Devis of this Avarana are
calledbyvariousnamessuchastheNityaKalas,NityaDevis,AkarshanaDevis,andGupta
Yoginis. By worshiping them one gets power over mind, ego, sound, touch, sight, taste,
smell, intellect, steadiness, memory, name, growth, etheric body, rejuvenation, and

Rajarajeswari is the presiding deity of Sri Chakra she is the mother of love and grace. All
sentient and insentient being are linked to, and dependent upon her power for their
existence.SheisthepersonificationoftheDivinedesiretocreatetheuniverseandalsothe
Divine desire to merge the creation back into the ultimate Bhraman (God the father). This
twofolddesireisthebasisoflove,thevivifyingbondthattiestheCreatorandthecreated.She
controlsourmindsandsensory organsandholdsthe keytotranscendentalknowledge.She
residesonthetopofthehead(Sahasrara),andalsointhesecondchakra(Swadisthana).

She is having for hands and three eyes. She wields in her four hands the noose, the goad ,
sugarcanebow,andfivefloweredarrows.HerthreeeyesareSun,Moonandfirerepresenting
the three triads in creation. Her crown is decorated with the crescent moon the symbol of
divine delight. The noose represents strong determination and love by which She binds the
whole creation. The goad is the symbol of the power of knowledge; it is the wrath of fiery
emotionsbywhichthewholecreationisspurredintoactivity.Thesugarcanestemdepictsthe
mindprincipleofman.Thefivefloweredarrowsarethefivetanmatras,sound,touch,form,
tasteandsmellthesourceofthefiveelements.Sheishavingthreeforms,thegrossphysical
form(sthulasharira),subtleastralform,(sukshmasharira)andthecausalarchetypalformof
themacrocosmandmicrocosmiccreation.

WhenSheismeditatedupon,thisultimateenergy,inthefirstandsecondchakra(Muladhara
and Swadhisthana) the sadhaka (spiritual aspirant) is performing internal fire sacrifice. She
emergesoutofthelotuschakrasasKundalinithesupremepowerelevatingthesadhaka.

ThegracefulMotherremovesevilanddevelopsgoodnesswithinallofus.Sheisthepowerof
Bhraman; pure consciousness embodied. She is the bliss of "Sat Chit Ananda" existence,
knowledgeandbliss.

EXPOSITION

SriYantraisarepresentationofsomepersonificationoraspectofthedivine,amodelforthe
worshipofdivinityimmediatelywithintheheart,aftertheparaphernaliaofoutwarddevotion
have been discarded by the advance initiate, a kind of chart or schedule for the gradual
evaluationofthevision,whileidentifyingtheselfwithitsslowlyvaryingcontents,thatisto
say, with the divinity in the all its phase of transformation. In this case the Yantra contains
dynamicelements.
