Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Information
The third edition of Oncology MKSAP was developed in
response to the many advances in the rapidly growing
field of molecular biology of cancer and targeted therapies, new staging and classifications systems for several
cancers, and major progress in therapeutic strategies and
supportive care. Oncology MKSAP is not a textbook of
oncology, rather it provides an overview of the current
understanding of cancer, its treatment, and the supportive
care needed to optimize the quality of life for people with
cancer.
In addition, the American Board of Internal Medicine
(ABIM) subspecialty examinations create a specific need
for the information provided in Oncology MKSAP.
Subspecialty examinations are administered annually in
May and November throughout the United States,
Canada, and Puerto Rico. The examinations are given in
modular format, with 60 questions per test book.
Candidates have two hours to complete each test book.
The examinations contain multiple choice questions in
the areas of factual knowledge, clinical judgment, and
decision-making.
The medical oncology examination is designed to evaluate
the extent of the candidates knowledge and clinical judgment in those areas in which a consultant in medical
oncology should possess a high level of competence. Some
questions require interpretation of pictorial material such
as radiographs and photomicrographs of pathologic and
hematopathologic slides.
Target Audience: Oncologists
The target audience includes oncology practitioners, candidates for recertification examinations, and fellows in
training who are preparing for the ABIM subspecialty
certification examination.
Pre-requisite: None
