PART 1 -- GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK
A. Fabricate and install metal railings in accordance with the requirements set forth in this
section.
1.2 ADDITIONAL WORK INCLUDED IN THIS SECTION
A. Reinforcing for wall rail brackets at dry wall partitions.
B. Field measuring for weld plates, sleeves and insert locations.
C. Field measuring.
D. Anchors or inserts for terrazzo or precast concrete.
E. Prime painting of galvanized materials
1.3 STRUCTURAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Contractor shall assure stability of railing assembly to meet the specified design
loads.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Regulatory Requirements
1. Components and installation are to be in accordance with state and local code
authorities
B. Components and installation are to follow current ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 guidelines;
the National Building Code of the Philippines (RA6541) and; The Law to Enhance

1. Furnish certification that all components and fittings are furnished by the same
manufacturer or approved by the primary component manufacturer.

1. Show sections and plans of stairs, dimensions and assembly of components.

3. Provide setting diagrams for installation of anchors, location of pockets, weld plates
for attachment of rails to structure, and blocking for attachment of wall rail.

6. Submit one (1) set(s) of CAD file(s) or A3 print for approval.
B. Indicate component details, materials, finishes, connection and joining methods, and the

1. Submit duplicate samples of railing showing style and finish. One approved sample
will be returned to contractor. Certification: Certify rail and anchor fabrication and
installation complies with Code required design loads. Furnish certification signed
and sealed by licensed Professional Engineer.

E. Substitutions:
1. Any changes in specified material must meet requirements of the General Conditions

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver materials to the job site in good condition and properly protected against
damage to finished surfaces.

1. Store material in a location and in a manner to avoid damage. Stacking shall be done
in a way, which will prevent bending.

2. Store material in a clean, dry location away from uncured concrete and masonry.
Cover with waterproof paper, tarpaulin, or polyethylene sheeting in a manner that
will permit circulation of air inside the covering.

PART 2 -- PRODUCTS
2.1 MATERIALS AND FINISHES
A. Stainless Steel: Type 316 or 316L; 304 or 304L
1. Bar: ASTM A 167
2. Pipe and Tubing: ASTM A 269; A 312
3. Finish: Ornamental Grade, AISI No. 4, Brushed

2.2 RAILING SYSTEM


A. Rails and Posts
a. Fabricate rails, posts, and spindles from stainless steel
b. Baluster and Rail Configuration: Baluster connected to rail at top, substrate at
bottom.

3. Railing Cross Section Height: 900mm @ ramp; 110mm along corridors.
B. Posts [and Spindles]: Fabricate posts stainless steel
C. Fittings
1. Fittings are to be of a cast alloy to best match the color of the handrail alloy.
2.3 FASTENERS
A. All mechanical fasteners used in the assembly of stainless steel or aluminum railings
shall be manufactured from stainless steel.

B. Exposed mechanical fasteners for use with bronze materials shall be manufactured from
yellow brass.

C. Cement: Hydraulic, ASTM C 595, factory prepared with accelerator.

E. Form rail-to-end post connections and all changes in rail direction by radius elbows.
F. Cut material square and remove burrs from all exposed edges, with no chamfer.
G. Make exposed joints butt tight and flush.
H. Close exposed ends of pipe and handrail by use of appropriate end cap.
I. For posts set in concrete, furnish matching sleeves or inserts not less than 5 inches long.

J. Locate intermediate rails with 10mm maximum spacing between rails (see details).
K. Verify dimensions on site prior to shop fabrication.
L. Provide anchors, plates and angles required for connecting railings to structure.
Exposed Mechanical fastenings: Flush countersunk screws or bolts; Unobtrusively
located; consistent with design component, except where specifically noted otherwise.
Supply components required for anchorage of fabrications. Fabricate anchors and
related components of same material and finish as fabrication, except where
specifically noted otherwise.
M. Exterior Components: continuously seal joined pieces by continuous welds. Drill
condensate drainage holes at bottom of members at locations that will not encourage
water intrusion.
N. Interior Components: Continuously seal joined pieces by continuous welds.
O. Accommodate for expansion and contraction of members and building movement
without damage to connections or members.

PART 3 -- EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. A Clean and strip primed steel items to bare metal where site welding is required.
B. Supply items required to cast into concrete and or embedded in masonry with setting
templates, to appropriate sections.

3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install in accordance with shop drawings and manufacturers instructions at locations
indicated on the drawings.
B. Erect work square and level, horizontal or parallel to rake of steps or ramp, rigid, and
free from distortion or defects detrimental to appearance or performance.
C. Expansion joints shall be provided as needed to allow for thermal expansion or
contraction.

D. Conceal bolts and screws whenever possible.

A. As installation is completed, wash thoroughly using clean water and soap; rinse with
clean water.

B. Do not use acid solution, steel wool or other harsh abrasives.


C. If stain remains after washing, material must be removed and replaced.
3.4 REPAIR OF DEFECTIVE WORK
A. Remove stained or otherwise defective work and replace with material that meets
specification requirements.

B. Repair damaged finish as directed by Architect or Project Supervisor.


C. Replace defective or damaged components as directed by Architect or Project
Supervisor.
