WHO AM I
Design synopsis
Duration : Week 1 ~ 3 ( Group Project )

Every piece of architecture has its own

style and identity which is express
through the language of transform
geometries . The expression of this
architecture language is always relate to
its times, space and place .this
transformation of architecture is greatly
affected by the advancement of
technology and also the material
evolution.
The most basic design principle in
creating a piece of architecture is always
start from the transformation of 2D
elements into 3D object which can
contain spaces that is useful for our living
environment. A great piece of
architecture normally have a distinctive languages that is always related
to the expression of individual living experiences and also the origin of his
upbringing .

Project One : The task

RESEARCH (a) : ERGONOMIC STUDIES.

UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN (UTAR)

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE (FES)

Duration : Week 1~ 3 ( Group Project )

Before you start project one you
need to carry out research on
ergonomic studies.

DEFINATION
ERGONOMIC
- measurement relating
to human body .
In the group of two you are required to
carry out an ergonomic studies of an
adult human body to identify the proportional system of measurement
that set the universal standard of human scale .The finding of information
must be recorded in the illustration of diagram and sketches. This
ergonomic studies should also covered on the understanding of the
curvilinear shape of human form and profile.

Submission requirements (individual)

A1 Size drawing to scale that graphically records

the measurement of information.
must be manually drawn drawing.

Assessment Criteria:(5%)

clarity and neatness of drawing technique .

Thoroughness of the information recorded.
Visual communication and
presentation format

project one is about the exploration of the

basic 2D geometry to 3D object. in this
assignment you are only allow to use one
type of chosen material ;it can be card
board, wire mesh, timber ,plastic , PVC,
paper or etc.
Select and Cut the chosen material into
shape then by using the technique of
bending or folding or twisting or
squeezing or interlocking or etc
transform this 2D element into a 3D
form.

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE (FES)

Repeat creating this modular object in many times . it can be in the

same scale or different scale . by using the principle of architecture in
design such as linear ,cluster ,radial ,interlocking, or etc joint this
repetition object together to form a 'skin'( surface) with interesting
texture which automatically contain
architecture languages which expressing
the identity and personality of a person
character .
This architecture skin would be installed
on a selection portion of human body
.therefore the designer need to
understand the form and scale of the
human body .so that the architecture skin
once is install is like part of human body .
No glue ,pin, stapler or string is allow
to be used to hold the skin in position at
the human body . The skin must be fitted
well to the human form. This
architecture skin should cover an area of
0.5 meter square.
Upon completion of this architecture skin
the designer need to wear them to
perform a cat walk with back ground
music at the same time explain its design
concept ,what has inspired them to start
the design ,the process of making it and
also what identity , personality or
character the designer try to express.

SPATIAL EXPLORATION CUBE

Design synopsis

UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN (UTAR)

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE (FES)
Duration : Week 4 ~ 6 ( Individual Project )
Architecture is about making of space. . Every
individual space has its own meaning which is
always related to the human behaviour.
Space can be created by walls of enclosure with
difference kind of surfaces (skin) of texture or
defined by assembly of elements .
Space can be vary in size ,volume ,texture , solidity ,
light fenestration or etc .which can promote different
psychology emotion for its dweller. A series of
spaces normally is link together by human
circulation which give the journey of spatial progression a unique psychology
experience.
The more unique and dramatic of the spatial movement is sequentially
arranged ,the more unpredictable and non monotonous of its space planning it
would be ,which make the spatial journey to be memorable and full of surprises .
Creatively arrange spatial order, not only possess Psychology excitement and
exhilarating spatial movement but also must contain the celebration of its
awareness to its surrounding contextual setting , All of which , will make a good
piece of architecture.

Project Two : The task

Duration : Week 4 ~ 6 ( individual Project )

In the second assignment student is required

to design and creates a spatial exploration
model within a 6.0m x6.0m x 6.0m cube
which is imagine to be located at a green
field. The spaces created must consist of a
main space with a few supplementary spaces
linking to each other .
The spaces created may have different
quality in its hierarchy. it would be clearly
defined by its differences in volumetric scale
and size , degree of enclosure of solid and
void of opening , different texture of its
surfaces and the differences in light
fenestration and intensity .All of which must be house in an imaginary
boundary of the shape of a cube.
The cube may be manipulated by adding or subtracting the body.
however the essence of this geometrical form must be preserved
and remain.

UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN (UTAR)

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE (FES)

The spaces created within the cube does

not
house
any
specific
functional
requirement except to allow a person to
move around to experience through the
different feeling on the hierarchy of spatial
progression and its form to induce an
exciting spatial exploration experienced
Upon completion of this assignment
Student will learn about volumetric space
in relationship to human scale, spatial
exploration and progression and its
architectural expressions .
The spatial exploration cube
must demonstrate
the following compliance:
different volumetric of space
transitional space
celebrating space
intimate space.
texture and colors
dramatic movement,
circulation and spatial
progression
fenestration of openings,
light/shadow distribution
expression
of
form,
structure and materials

Submission

MY LIVING STUDIO
Design synopsis
Duration : Week 7 ~ 13 ( Individual Project )

Every habitable space is designed

uniquely to cater for the different
need of human behaviour . The
Composition of spatial order
normally will make the habitable
space to be uniquely express to suit
the lifestyle of individual Because
human behaviour is shape
differently from the place of his
upbringing which is always relate to
the climate , history and cultural
order of a society.
The composition of the spatial order
not only need to fulfil the
functionality and practicality on the
utilitarian need of individual usage
but also need to instil the
excitement of spatial experience for
the dweller. Hence ,will make the
spatial order become more articulately express which inherited with an
exciting living ambience .
