CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
Nowadays many people want to experience what it feels like under water,
watching different underwater species and observing them in a close distance without
getting wet. Imagine, youre in a place where you can see millions of organisms that
living underwater. animals with and without scales and bones, animals that take on
different forms during the stages of their life, animals that prefer groups, animals that
can bite, animals that rely 100% on camouflage age, animals that are speedy, and
those that are slow to move; an abundant variety of plant life; and those organisms that
seem to border animal and plant. And there is still so much more to be discovered in the
waters and about the waters.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
An aquanarium means underwater aquarium. It is like a natural theme park where
one can see the marine creatures in their natural habitat. Many recreational activities
can combine with the aquanarium to make it a complete recreational space for any age
group. It is basically a salt-water aquarium for displaying marine animals & plants
particularly oceanic, pelagic, fishes and mammals. It serves as a center for public
entertainment and education and scientific study
The modern concept of the term aquanarium is a gigantic aquarium- an artificial
ocean habitat with all kinds of marine creatures, especially large ocean dwellers such as
sharks and dolphins. It can basically be called as a marine mammal park. It is a
commercial theme park or aquarium where marine mammals such as dolphins, beluga
whales and sea lions are kept within water tanks and displayed to the public in special
shows. . They are basically located in coastal areas. There are many area here in
region V are near in coastal areas. One of this is in the province of sorsogon.
Sorsogon is aprovince of the Philippines located in the bicol region. It is the
southernmost province in Luzon and is subdivided into fourteen monicipalities and one
city. Its capital is sorsogon city.
Sorsogon city is a third class city in sorsogon, Philippines. This city was formed
by merging the bacon and sorsogn towns. The city is also called gateway to southern
Philippines because the city serves as a trans-shipment point from the visayas and
Mindanao province. The city has a small island. Its called Pinaculan Island. According
to the residents near the island, Pinaculan Island is an island during high tide and part
of the mainland during low tide.

Proposing a aquanarium in city of sorsogon is very important. The city has

elementary, high school and colleges. Instead of going to manila to visit maninla ocean

1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

The proposed aquanarium aimed to provide as a new attraction in province of
sorsogon that serves as a center for public entertainment, education and scientific
study. This building is designed an aquarium to both public and researcher. The building
must have a connection from the ocean for the public physically by dock and piers for
the researcher. The building will be using as many sustainable techniques as possible
to support the building utilities.
Specifically, this study focused on the following sub-problems for considerations
in planning and designing the proposed project.
1. How many underwater species will be putting on the aquarium?
2. What is the maximum capacity of the building?
3. What are the sustainable techniques to support the building utilities?
4. Would the project structure affect economy, being first of its own in the area while
achieving sustainability and resiliency?

SIGNIFICANDS OF THE STUDY

This study is intended to formulate enjoyable, sustainable, safe, well planned

facilities, and edutainment attraction in the province of sorsogon.
To locals and tourist. The project will benefit and help the locals, for it will be a
promotion to what their community can offer. As for the tourists it will help them to
experience leisure, contentment, and knowledgeable.
To co-students. The project will benefit the co-student for it will serve as their
reference and a new learning for them. The project will also help them to widen their
knowledge and further experiences to improvise their works and problems.
To the government. The project will benefit the government for it will serve as
their reference to improve their governance to the people in the area by promoting
safety.
To the future researchers. The project will benefit and help the future
researchers, for it will serve as their guide and use as a reference to develop a better
research. The study can also help to widen their knowledge and organize their works
well. The study can be also open in the development of this study.

To the environment. The project will benefit the environment, for it will preserve
the endangered species. The researcher will collect them, protect them and prevent the
extinction of their species.

1.4 PROJECT GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

MAIN GOAL
To design a aquanariom: aqua display and research center that will serves as a
new edutainment attraction in provinces of sorsogon.
OBJECTIVE:
To promote low impacts on the environment, and high impact on the community.
To use the aquanarium for educational purposes.
To provide protection against freshwater pollution.

1.5 SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study focus on the design development of aquanarium a building with a
huge aquarium tank and also have a research facilities for researchers. It also have
recreational such as restaurant, resort and administration building. This research also
focusing on the architectural design and planning guided by codes, policies and law,
and other related studies. It comprises the effectiveness of sustainable design and how
it can be beneficial to the locals, and tourist in terms of safety security and sustainability.
The delimitation of the project involves how the funding and return of investment
is handle. Due to time constraints economic factors such as promotion, budget, funding,
return of investments and how the project will earn profit will not be discussed by the
project.

1.6 JUSTIFICATION OFSTUDIES

Proposing an aquanarium is big help in Bicol region, especially in the in province
of sorsogon. In these structure it can improve the financial stability of sorsogon. Income
that can help progressing the leaving of the province. Also it serve not only for adults but
also for childrens, who wants to experience in under water. Expanding their knowledge
in how underwater species leave.

1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Aquarium. A tank filled with water for keeping live fish and under water animals.
Edutainment. Entertainment intended to be educational.
Resort. A place used for relaxation or recreation, attracting visitors for vacations
and/or tourism.

CHAPTER II

Methods and Procedures

2.1 RESAERCH METHODOLOGY
The identified study must be in systematically approach and provide a specific
method to identify the procedural basic for this study. Within the span of the study, the
researching method that will be used in this identified study is in the form of descriptive
method in respect to the stratified implicitly of the case study. Essential part of the basic
method will include the provision of survey form and such consequently will present a
system of approach for the ideal result and conclusive statement for architectural design
of aquanarium approach of the future which will determine number of people. The
method used will also identify both conservative and evident problematic areas and
issues for this study, the prober spaces for proper function and proper space allotment
within adjacency and such the research method aim to cover a truthful and accurate
results within the descriptive basis as well as the extended result in the latter part.
2.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
Studying Site is the most valuable part of research study that shall arrange so
that the researcher and the propose study is in a good relation. On this approach the
researcher may come out the best good decision making in terms of different research
styles and applying it on the study
2.3 SOURCE OF DATA
All source of data can be identify if the data have a relations to the study.
Collecting data can be done from different printed materials from valuable sources of
local and foreign study as related literature. Through different concerned government
agencies like the municipalities office of sorsogon the planning department office of
sorsogon for giving the Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the physical profile of the
area with the socio-economic profile and other support data. The municipal assessors
office of sorsogon by providing the detail profile of the site.
2.4 PROCEDURE
The research instrument in the phase of research design case study will
evidently use the stratified given data gathered from the empirical span of research. The
data gathered will serve as the tools for this study such as the records from the different
staff of the site, information, project plan, and systematic information of the office, log
books, survey questionnaires, and operatives study, moreover, the questionnaire given

will only be limited to the waiting passenger that enter the said transportation hub
should look like and how will it ease for improvement. The specific questioned deployed
from the survey will likely be on a manner of easy to answer and subjective. The content
will be more on the issue of convenience and manner of accessibility, the response of
adequacy from the staff, the limit of space and dimensions, and the proper functions of
each space, the comfort zone level, and other personal questions like age, gender and
preferences which has something to do with the facility within the study. Research
interviews will also be provided on the management of the facility and to one of the
important staff in the field. All the gathered will be collected and managed properly for
the specific aims to the architectural design.
2.5 DATA GATHERING INSTRUCTION
To gather data for this study, the tools utilized were through survey, interviews,
situational investigation, architecture undergrad thesis book, magazine, photo images,
diagrams internet, downloaded files from different website and other government
agencies that have knowledge can supports to the study.
