For power on a Taurus digitizer or to wake up a digitizer in sleeping mode, push briefly the
central button.
You have to wait 5 minutes before the screen wakes up.
Moving in the menu is done by left and right buttons, validation by the central button.
You can also access to the digitizer by ethernet cable (blue cable with the digitizer). You
have to enter the Taurus IP address 192.168.1.2 (for all the digitizers) in a web navigator.
(Mozilla-Firefox recommended).
In buffered mode you need to have the screen powered to be able to dialog with the
Taurus.
2) Linux
- Open aterminal
changethe IP address of your computer: sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.5Your
password will be asked to execute the command.
NB: by sudo, you become a "superuser" time to launch the command. Only this super
user has rights to change the IP address on linux.
- Check if the computer address is well changed : ifconfig
- Check if the connection with The Taurus is well done: ping 192.168.1.2
NB: In case your computer (linux) stops everytime the link with the Taurus by
changing computer IP address, you have to stop the "network manager" with this
command:
su -c 'service NetworkManager stop'

2) Signal check
Menu: waveform.

If there are some interruptions, you can download the SOH data on the archive card (FAT
32), to check if there were GPS, satellite receiving problems. (see $ 7)
4) GPS check
Menu: Timing.
The important thing is to check the "PLL state status. The signals are well received when
PLL state indicates "Fine Lock".

Collect SOH data, so you can verify the GPS by number of satellites used.
1) Flashcards saving

Once the station is shut down, open the media door under the digitizer, check the warning
light is green, before collecting cards.
The new versions of Taurus (v 3.4.6 and more) record directly the data in miniseed format.
When you pick up data in the field, you can now collect only the card containing miniseed
data. You have to be careful however there is no hole in the data by scanning the directory
with the msi software. (see $ IV)
Indeed, holes in miniseed data are not necessarily corresponding with hole in store data.
If hole are identified, its better to collect recorded store data on the 2nd flash card. These
missing data can be regenerated by convert the store data using ApolloProject software (see
"using of Apollo Project for transform data").
1) Software installation
Msi can be working on:
- Mac OS
- Linux
Page 11 / 18
2014
For installing msi software, you only need to uncompress and unarchive the file:
tarxvzf msi-3.4.3.tar.gz
Copy the executable in the /usr/local/bin directory so you can execute it from any directory.
2) Using
1- Download the miniseed data in the computer.
The miniseed data are sort by month in directories.
Example: 201210 (month 10/2012 data)
2- Execute the following command:
msi -t -G ./201210/*.miniseed
3- Command results
The command result shows on screen:
- Numberof segments of data by channel
- Number of gap

3) Some examples
Example 1: scan of all data for the station CT17 (msi -t -G */*)
Number of
segments
Number of
gap
Gap in
seconds
In this previous example, there is no gap on data.
6 segments have been listed (2 by ways)
3 gaps have been listed (1 hole by way)

If the digitizer doesnt recognized the store card, ( No Data Available at the signal location on
the welcome page), shut down one more time the station, only insert the ext3 card in its left
side, go in the store tools menu, clean and recreate the store, and then power on the
digitizer. See down.

Once the store card is recognized by the digitizer (signals can be seen on the status page),
replace flash cards at their respective location (miniseed at left, store at right in the adapter)
after the Taurus had been powered down.
Check on the main screen that everything is OK before leaving the site.
