1.0

SCOPE
This specification describes the procedures to be followed when one or more components of Swagelok tube
fittings require special (ultrasonic) cleaning.

2.0

CLEANING SOLUTION
2.1

3.0

4.0

5.0

De-ionized water with additives, followed by de-ionized water rinse.

SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS
3.1

Lint-free gloves must be worn while handling clean parts.

3.2

The parts shall be loaded into baskets.

3.3

The bath shall be operated at approximately 130 F.

3.4

The parts shall be lowered into the tank. (Solution must cover the parts completely.) Switch shall be
turned on to generate ultrasonic energy. Parts shall be allowed to remain in bath for a period of 6
minutes.

3.5

The parts shall be processed through a two-stage de-ionized water rinse.

3.6

Cleaned parts shall be blown with nitrogen followed by oven drying.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
4.1

Inspection shall be done in a clean area with high illumination. Inspector must wear lint-free gloves.

4.2

All surfaces shall be free of grease, oil and debris. A sample of parts shall be inspected under
ultraviolet light (3659 ). Light intensity shall be a minimum 800 microwatts/cm2 at the surface to be
inspected. Fluorescence shall be cause for rejection of lot.

ASSEMBLY AND PACKAGING

5.1

Lint-free gloves must be worn while handling clean parts.

5.2

Fitting components not requiring ultrasonic cleaning per Table I shall be taken from plastic-bagged
stock unless they are customer-supplied. Any of these components having loose chips or dust from
cardboard shall be blown clean with nitrogen gas (whether they are customer property or from
Swagelok Companys stock).

5.3

All mating threads that are external to the process fluid and are not ultrasonically cleaned shall be
lubricated with proprietary lubricants. O-rings that are not ultrasonically cleaned shall be lubricated
with Krytox 240-AC. Internal surfaces of nuts with the suffix BQ and LQ shall be lubricated with
Krytox 240 AC after cleaning.

5.4

All tools and fixtures used for assembly shall be cleaned as needed to prevent recontamination of
cleaned components.

5.5

Each assembled part shall be individually bagged in a clean heavy-duty clear polyethylene bag,
purged with nitrogen, and sealed. The bag shall be printed with the information "Specially Cleaned
per SC-11 (or F-015)" as per Exhibit I. Larger products may be double-bagged to guard against
tearing around sharp corners as appropriate.

Fittings with CY suffix do not need any special printing on the bag. Therefore, Exhibit 1 does not
apply for these parts. After the SC-11 cleaning process each component of a CY fitting are bulk
packed, sent to be cleaned through the Swagelok SC-01 Ultrahigh Purity cleaning process and then
assembled and vacuum bagged in a clean room environment.
5.6

Bags shall be packaged in cardboard boxes. Adequate cushions shall be used to prevent transportation
damage.

5.7

Each box shall be marked with product I. D. description, and identified with proper part number (including
suffix per Table I to designate ultrasonically cleaned components), number of parts enclosed, and marked
"Specially Cleaned per SC-11 (or F-015). Several boxes shall be put into a heavy-duty carton and
banded with a strap. Each carton shall be identified per standard practice and marked "Specially
Cleaned per SC-11 (or F-015)."

NOTE 1:

Silver-plated front ferrule.

NOTE 2:

User must coat the front ferrule with a suitable anti-gall lubricant such as Krytox 240 AC before installation.

NOTE 3:

Krytox 240 AC lubricant is applied to the inner surfaces of the nut after cleaning.

NOTE 4:

Krytox 240 AC lubricant is applied to the nut and front ferrule after cleaning.

NOTE 5:

Cymer-cleaned parts must meet the following guidelines:

Swagelok front ferrules will be silver-plated
Swagelok nuts will not have the additional hydrocarbon based lube applied (NL)
All components of a CY fitting will be cleaned through the normal SC-11 special cleaning
process. However, after cleaning no lubricant will be applied to the inside of the nut, the front
ferrule, or the O-ring (if present).
After the SC-11 cleaning process each component of a CY fitting will be cleaned through the
Swagelok SC-01 Ultrahigh Purity cleaning process and then assembled and vacuum-bagged in a
clean room environment.

Note 6:

Krytox 240 AC lubricant is applied to the O-Ring.

Note 7 :

For CQ, O-Rings are cleaned and bagged without Krytox.

Note 8 :

SC-11 is not available on metal plugs or port connectors. BLBQ, (BL = silver plate), CQ and LQ are the
available options
