VNX upgrade
This question has been Answered.
Hello all,
Currently I have a VNX 5300 sitting in my datacenter with File OE version 7.0.35. I am trying to update to 7.0.40 using the ISO, but the Unisphere update manager
can only recognize the upg format. I understand the ISO is for the VNX upgrade tool, but was this bundled in the software suite that was packaged with the system?
Sorry for being a little noobie about this in advance.
Thanks.

It almost sounds like one of those files is corrupt. How about downloading 7.0.50.2 and seeing if you get better results?

Just let the USM download the packages thru the Internet

Right, that is pretty much the major hurdle that I'm having right now.
This may be a beginner question as well, but what credentials are used to sign in the SSO server for downloading and upgrading packages? The powerlink nor
community credentials are allowing me access to the online support server. Are there credentials provided in the configuration manual?
Thanks.

Should be your Powerlink credentials
Sometimes your network / firewall setup prevents this - in this case you can also download the packages needed manually and put them into the correct directory
(USM help will tell you where)
You should be able to download from

If you are able to obtain the CD1 iso image and the tar package, all you need to do is put them in a folder with the .upg extension. Example would be "7.0.50.2.upg"
When you launch USM, just point it to the 7.0.50.2.upg directory to begin the File upgrade.

Exactly which ISO ?
There are two types of ISO one for Express Install and one for upgrade.

The express install iso cannot be used. It has to be either CD1 of the classic iso or the full DVD iso.

Hmm..
After I gave Michael's solution a shot I got a new error message this time: "Invalid upgrade package. Message ID 15569387534. Try the operation again. If the
error persists then seek EMC support." This is with a folder name of 7.0.40.1.upg and files: 7.0.40.1_emcnas_CD1.iso and pkg_7.0.40.1.tar
I even made the permissions of the folder accessible to everyone, and still to no prevail.

I have not seen that before. Can you try replacing the CD1 iso with the full DVD iso and see if you get the same results?

12. Re: VNX upgrade

I get the same results when I replace the CD1 iso with emcnas7.0.40.1_DVD.iso.
It's not askimg me to make sure if I have the correct files in the specific folder, but it just gives me an invalid upgrade package message as I noted above.

Thanks Michael. I was able to get the upgrade to start installing with the new package. Hopefully it was just my system with the corrupt package and not anyone
else's.
For the CD2 upgrade, is it the same procedure as CD1?
