About the author

Tawhida Bibi Boolakee graduated from Middlesex

University Business School in London with an Upper
Second Class degree in Law (LLB) in 2005 and was
ranked second in European Union Law and third in
Company Law in her University. She worked part-time in
a Pizza Hut as receptionist and telephonist and also as a
model in 2004-2005 in London for a reputable agency.
She received two offers in both a Hindi and an English
movie but could not sign them due to some incidents that
happened in London which will be further discussed in
this novel. Besides this, she has made six attempts to pass
her notary exams in Mauritius between 2006-2012 but
these have been in vain because she has failed all of
them, even though she is a very hard-working student and
has done what she could to be the best student in her
class; she even completed her traineeship in two notary
firms in Mauritius from 2005 until 2014. Both notaries
were very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the COLE
in Mauritius has always given her the last rank, as if she
was being blacklisted and discriminated against.
Probably, they believe that she will settle down in India
3

or the UK and be an actress. To be an actress, one needs

to get good offers and she received an offer to be in a
Hindi movie in September 2012 but refused since she had
forgotten the Urdu language and asked the same person
for any contracts with English movies since she speaks
only English and French languages, yet unluckily, she
has received no reply. In addition, she obtained a
certificate in Acting from the Mahatma Gandhi
Institute in Mauritius in 2009 and has completed a short
course in English and French Languages as well as a
Make-up Artist course in late 2012. She lived in
London for three years, from 2002-2005 and would like
to thank all the people there and elsewhere for trying to
make her big and for making her big on earth, and may
God bless them all and reward them on earth and in life
hereafter. Her prayers are for the whole world every day.
Since December 2012 she has been very angry with
people who have failed her and those who have snatched
her rights by representing her, thus causing her lot of pain
in the past. She was waiting to pass her notary exams and
then go on to play in English movies and she even had
great ideas about the kind of movies she would like to
play. If she had already been a notary, she would have
had enough money to produce and play in her own
English movies in London but unfortunately, the
Mauritius associations concerns have been very cruel
and harsh and have not made her dream come true
despite her marriage to a Mauritian. The reason why she
wants to be notary will be discussed in the novel itself.
Now she is free and is not working and would like to see
which opportunities will be presented to her. She no
longer wants to be notary since the promise is gone due
to her failures in this subject and the big lapse of time.
She has used fictitious names in this novel and would like
to apologise in anticipation for any misunderstanding as
4

she does not want to hurt anybody. People who have any

1. Childhood and
teenage years

This story is based on my real life. I did not have an

easy life when I was young because we were poor
during my childhood. I was the eldest in my family
and my mum had married when she was eighteen.
Life was very miserable for me since only my dad
worked and we did not get enough pocket money
when attending school. But I was a cheerful girl who
was happy with my life since my cousins were
nearly the same age as me and we all used to play
together, at times in their houses and sometimes on
the streets. They were better off than me as my dad
was the youngest son in his family. In short, they
were leading a happy and comfortable lifestyle,
unlike me, because our home was a small one in the
early 1980s.
Despite being poor, we were obedient children
and happy with what we had before, and life was not
like today since there had been a radical change due
to technological advancements. In the early 1980s,
8

in Mauritius, people were not that rich, and many of

them did not have a television and video to watch.
But luckily, we did possess these two things. My dad
worked as a notarys clerk but he got only a flat
salary with no commission in his early working
days. Now things have changed a lot because he has
become very experienced and has about 40 years of
experience in his domain. During my college days,
my dad had turned out rich and we were leading a
better life than in my childhood days. Therefore we
were happier than before as we could get what we
wanted.
In the past, I used to bring joy and happiness to
my surroundings. From the day that I passed my
primary education, my dad wanted to make me
become a notary in life when I grew up and I wanted
to make his dream a reality and was very happy
about this idea, since he was very experienced and
had many clients, and this business would have been
very profitable for me. At college, I always had a
smile on my face so my tutor called me Miss
Smile. Besides, I used to be a phenomenon since I
hung around with people whom I enjoyed a lot.
Sometimes, I would play badminton with my
neighbours on the street since I was inspired by a
local champion in my college. There was a guy, a
certain Aj, my neighbour who used to tease me with
another Aj who attended the best college in the
country and he even told Aj that I liked him, and Aj
had waited for me at the bus stop but I did not turn
up that day because my cousin told me not to do so
9

because we were too young - only thirteen years old.

But this guy was very nice and had all the good
qualities in him; he was handsome and intelligent
and from a good family background. I had known
him since my primary education since we were in
the same class for four years. After a year, I met him
at an inter-college and he was kissing his girlfriend
when he saw me, and I was really happy since his
girlfriend was very beautiful and from a high class
family. May God keep them happy if they are
married and bless them. In my early teens, I was not
a good student since I liked to enjoy myself very
much. I became more responsible the day I was
elected as the class captain in 1995 but
unfortunately, I failed that class which was pre-GCE
Ordinary Level because of two reasons. Firstly, I
had been on a pilgrimage for Hadj at Makkah and
was absent from college for forty days and secondly,
I was in love with my distant cousin Hay and
neglected my studies.
I was a sporty woman who liked to participate in
the college cross country and sports day, and I even
won a bronze medal for the college cross country in
1993. My college mates used to call me model
because they found me very beautiful. They even
persuaded me to be a model one day in life and even
added that I would be the most beautiful girl in my
college after Sham Bee had finished college.
Knowing their feelings towards me, this made me
fill with joy and be a cheerful girl. May God keep
them happy since they were very nice to me.

10

During my college days, I used to have several

admirers who called me by actresses names,
including Bollywood and Hollywood actresses.
Some even called me at my house and spoke to my
family over the phone but we were too young and it
was not the right time to engage ourselves in life.
Moreover, I had a neighbour called Nick. He used to
have the hair style of Jason Priestley at that time,
since there was the series Beverly Hills which
were broadcast on the television and Jason Priestley
was in vogue. I admired him and found him
handsome and attractive. Nick used to pay attention
to me but when I reacted, he did not show particular
interest towards me since he looked very shy but
intelligent as he attended the best college in the
country. I was quite astonished, since several guys
were falling in love with me at his college and
another college of the region, but he was weird.
Sometimes when I saw Nick on the street, it was as
if an unknown force was pushing me back in my
garden as if to make me hide away from him. I do
believe that I was a bit shy. However, I even had a
proposal from a certain Ray who was fair and
attended the same college as Nick, and the year after
his proposal he became the elite student and got a
bursary to study in the United Kingdom, and then
became a general practitioner and is married now.
Ray had the hairstyle of Eric Cantona in 1996 but I
did not go out with him because I was undecided
about whom to choose. The other colleges
reputation was not a good one due to its students.
They would chase me when I walked near them and
11

sometimes they even hugged me when I was alone.

This is the reason why I had to wait for a college girl
in front of my house to accompany me when taking
the bus to go to my college.
In 1995, another guy, my distant cousin, (Hay)
who was in the same college as my ex-neighbour
(Nick) had asked me out, but we had finished before
we could really start up. Hay said to me that he
looked like an actor and that actor was my favourite.
We had met at a concert and were having a nice
moment together with friends who accompanied us
at the procession. I was very happy to know him
because he was paying attention to me in contrast to
Nick. He had asked me about my relationship with
my ex-neighbour but there was nothing really
between me and Nick at that time, because we had
not had a chat before. On that concert day, there
were several guys who were interested in me, one
had even hugged me in front of everybody without
my consent whilst others were staring at me and had
asked me out some months later. It was a memorable
day for me on the concert day because it was the
first concert I had ever been to at a college during
my childhood days. During the inter-college
competition, I met Hay with some friends and we
knew each other because he was my distant cousin
and we had a problem there because Nicks friends
had asked him to forget me, and Hay was a casual
type of guy, and they had told him that I was a
serious girl who had just performed the Hadj. They
had said these things for my own good. Hay had also

12

told me that my neighbour had said he liked me and

due to this we had not gone out together, and Hay
was not a serious guy before, because he was a
playboy during his teenage years. Perhaps today he
has changed since he is now a mature man and I
have come to know recently that he was married to a
Pakistani doctor in 2008. I did not even go out with
Nick, even though his dad was very pleased with me
since I felt guilty with my cousins adventure. May
God give my neighbours dad a long life and reward
him on earth and in life hereafter for liking me very
much.
His whole family liked me very much and was
very nice to me which made me very happy, except
his mum who believed that his son was too young to
go out with girls previously. Surprisingly, Nick had
become part of my family since he had got married
to my cousin and now they are happy with two kids
and I am so happy for them. Before their marriage,
when I heard they were separated, I told my cousin
with a pure heart that I had no problem with her
getting married to Nick and I would be happy for
them, but my cousin told me negatively and in 2009,
they had got married and I did not attend their
marriage because my cousin had told me lies; I
wanted her to be honest with me since I had nothing
to do with Nick.
Other guys had asked me out but I did not like
them since they were not attending excellent
colleges at that time. Very often, my mum would
receive prank calls and sometimes they would even
13

speak vulgar and bitter words and were therefore not

respectful guys. I had received several good
proposals; one was from a doctor when I was sixteen
years old. The doctor was the son of my dads friend
who was another doctor himself. My dads friend
made the proposal saying that it was for his younger
brother but my dad doubted him because his son had
come from Russia and I had seen him; he was really
very handsome and we were even invited to a party
to be held for his arrival but my dad did not attend it,
though I wanted to go and get to know them because
he feared that the son did not follow the Muslim
religion well because his mum was a white Christian
and he was white too. In 2004, he got married to a
nice Muslim girl who is the daughter of a President
of a mosque like me. This was good news to hear
when I had returned from London after my studies.
The family liked us very much and they were well
off.

2. Miracle tiny dust in

Saudi Arabia

One of the best days of my life was when I was

invited by God to go for a pilgrimage in Saudi
Arabia in 1995. In the first instance, I did not want
to go there since I was a modern girl but my dad
forced me to go. The reason was because too many
guys kept on phoning my home and my dad did not
like me to go out with them and if he heard such
news, he would beat me up and today I am very
happy to have been there since I received a gift from
God there. Even our group Hadj leader always says
that the 1995 Hadj was the easiest Hadj that she has
ever experienced, as if the Hadj was served on a
plate; as if God was so happy to welcome my
family. My sister was only one year old and my
eldest cousin was only eighteen years old, which
means we as youngsters were between one and
eighteen years old. Once in Saudi Arabia, we prayed
15

daily and in the afternoon, we went shopping and

there was a wide variety of stuff. We even stared at
beautiful shiny gold jewellery in the jewellery shops.
At night, my cousins and I knocked on the door of
my uncle and then ran away and locked ourselves in
our respective rooms and my uncle chased us since
we were playing mischievously with him.
When I was in Saudi Arabia doing the tour
(tawwaf) in Makkah, tiny dust fell in my left eye
whist I was busy staring at the sky right directly at
the Kabbah and from this day, I have experienced a
great change in myself. I even asked God to fulfill
my wish by letting me go to London to pursue my
Law (LLB) exam and make me a notary one day.
My dad had let me go to London in 2002 and I was
the first one in my family to go there. I was very
happy since I wanted to be big, famous and rich. But
however, my wish to be a notary has remained
unfulfilled since the COLE (Council of Legal
Education) has not selected me in its passing list.
Besides, I had asked God to let me touch the black
(aswad) stone and on the last day before I left
Makkah, I felt lots of change since I could sense
some mysterious and unknown forces coming to
help me touch the black stone although it was risky
and crowded. Lastly, I have asked God to forgive all
our sins and to send us all to Paradise in the life
hereafter. Makkah and Madina were extremely
beautiful, as if you are seeing heaven on Earth, and
we had been enjoying it a lot there since my whole
family, consisting of about twenty one people, went

16

there together and stayed together. It was a

memorable experience.
Once in Mauritius, I realised that more people
were respecting me and I that I had many admirers.
Since the break-up with Hay, I prayed to God daily
and asked him to make me an extraordinarily
beautiful girl who cannot be compared to all the girls
and women on the earth. I even asked him to make
me very nice. I never knew of the young unique
beautiful extraordinary woman in the End of Times
until October 2005, when I returned back to
Mauritius from London.
Other guys did ask me out and five of them were
in the same college as Nick but I refused them since
I started liking guys who looked like an actor, a little
bit like Hay, until I met my husband Yous, who was
a teenager like me at that time. But we did fight
about certain things since I wanted to travel to
London for my Law studies, to be able to be a notary
in life. And the first day that we kissed, he was
flattering his sister rather than me and was criticising
me about having acne on my face and since that day
I wanted to leave him at any cost. Meanwhile, I had
another proposal from a rich well-known family and
the guy was fair and handsome but Yous had gone to
speak to my aunt and was crying with her and my
aunt brainwashed me to stay with him and not break
his heart. Similarly, I had told him that I wanted to
be very successful in life, to be a notary, and I
wanted him to be a lawyer or a solicitor since we
would have been in nearly the same profession but
17

he told me that he wanted to be a professional

accountant.
In 1998, some people were telling me that I was
very beautiful and asked me to be an actress in India.
They even told me which family to go to who would
do this for me but I did not do anything since I was
in my GCE O level classes. After this unusual
offer, I was having visions of an actor and that I
would be an actress and get married to this actor,
who was my favourite. I met this actor in 1996 when
he was shooting his movie but I saw Sham Bee near
him and I could not speak to him. That time, I did
not go out with any guys and I was busy selecting
which guys to go out with so that one day I could get
married to one of them. My dad told me that if I
liked this actor, he would make me get married to
him but I heard that Sham had gone to watch a show
in London where she was sat on the first bench and
the actor noticed her and had even kissed her on her
hand, and Sham had even told all her friends that she
will get married to this actor and I was very happy
for her. I was saying that they were a nice pair since
Sham was very beautiful, some people even say she
looked a little bit like me. But in 1998, I heard that
Sham wanted guys who are famous like her own
cousins who are professionals, like doctors. Thats
why I wanted to be the actors wife in late 1998.
Something was attracting me towards the actor;
probably God wanted me to be famous, rich and big
on Earth.

18

3. Meeting my favourite
actor

Surprisingly, in 1999, my favorite actor came to

Mauritius a second time after his first visit in 1996. I
had not accompanied my parents to Hadj and I was
staying with my cousin and I was doing all the
needful things in order to meet the actor, and I even
called hotels he used to stay at and they told me
where he was residing. He came with his family and
when I called his hotel, the receptionist told me that
he was at the reception and they asked me if I
wanted to speak to him over the phone, which I
replied positively to. Then I could hear his voice, it
was him, and I told him the following. I like you a
lot and you are my favorite actor and I met you in
1996 but was unable to speak to you that day, but
you know, you are really very handsome and I want
to meet you and see you doing shooting. Then the
actor replied in a melodious voice. I want to meet
19

you today, we are shooting at a studio in Baie Du

Tombeau and please do come; now I will make you
speak with the local man so that you know the exact
location. I replied to the actor Yes but I do not
have transport now, but I will come with my family
themselves today and he even told me that they had
transport but I was overwhelmed with joy about the
way the actor behaved over the phone. My cousin
was saying that I was so happy that I was turning out
mad. The actors voice appeared to be sweet and he
was eager to meet me in a hurry. It was as if I was in
a dream, to be the luckiest lady on earth, since the
way the actor spoke to me was as if he wanted me to
be his girlfriend, but this happiness did not last for
long due to a misunderstanding. My cousins
husband was out and when he came back we told
him that we wanted to meet the actor who was very
happy to see me. That day, before leaving our house
to meet the actor, my cousin even asked me, if the
actor asked me to be an actress and his wife, would I
accept? My answer was positive but nevertheless,
we reached the spot two hours later and the actor did
not look to be in a good mood and people even said
that he was drunk and had a grudge with someone
the previous night, but over the phone, his voice was
full of love for me.
He looked angry with me and was playing hide
and seek with me and my family. It appears that the
actor did not like me at all because his face had a
feeling of so much of shame to be near me. They
needed some people to act as background artists for
