Subject: Circular on Bringing Soft skill courses (APT) under graduation credit requirements
VIT/Dean(Acad)/2015/FFCS/3
22-07-2015
CIRCULAR
Sub.:
Ref.:
The 37th Academic Council has considered the suggestion made of NAAC during their campus visit that Soft skill
courses that are being offered to students under Advance Placement Training (APT) be brought under the curriculum
credit requirements. In this regard, the following modifications are being effected in the curricula of various
programmes and in academic regulations.
1. With effect from AY 2015-16 onwards, each soft skill course (APT) offered will be given a weightage of one credit
under the University Core of the Programme curriculum.
2. This additional credit requirement will be added to the minimum credit requirement for graduation for all
Programmes that are undertaking soft skill courses. Hence the total number of credits added to the curriculum
and graduating requirement will be the number of soft skill courses offered from AY2015-16 till the student
graduates, at the rate of one credit per course per semester.
3. This is applicable to all existing programme batches of AY 2015-16.
4. Being a credited course, the grading will be based on 50% weightage from the continuous assessment and balance
50% from the Final Assessment Test (FAT).
5. Absolute grading method will be adopted for evaluating these soft skill courses.
2
6. A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory for all students (without any exceptions) to become eligible to take
the FAT.
7. Being a University Core requirement, student who fail to clear the course needs to re-register the course again
and clear the same.
