ZENA Wireless Network Analyzer

V2.0
January 29, 2007
The ZENA Wireless Network Analyzer is a tool that can be used to configure the Microchip Stack
for the ZigBee Protocol (see AN965) and the Microchip MiWi Protocol (see AN1066), and to
monitor and display wireless network traffic for both protocols. The full version of the ZENA
Wireless Network Analyzer software is provided with the purchase of the ZENA Wireless Network
Analyzer kit. A demo version, providing stack configuration and analysis of previously saved
wireless network traffic, is provided with the Microchip Stacks for the ZigBee Protocol and
Microchip MiWi Protocol.
Version 2.0 of the ZENA Wireless Network Analyzer offers the following features. For a full
description of its capabilities, refer to the ZENA Wireless Network Analyzer Users Guide.
Create configuration files required for applications utilizing the Microchip Stack for the
ZigBee Protocol (AN965).
Create configuration files required for applications utilizing the Microchip MiWi Protocol
(AN1066).
(Full version only) Monitor and display wireless network traffic as it appears on the air for
both ZigBee and MiWi protocols.
Display previously saved sessions of wireless network traffic monitoring.
Filter displayed messages according to specified criteria.
Export raw message data for other analysis.
Show how messages propagate through the network.
Version 2.0 includes the following changes/enhancements from v1.3:
Updated to support the ZCP certified v1.0-3.8 of the Microchip Stack for the ZigBee
Protocol.
Added security configuration.
Added external non-volatile memory configuration (required for PIC18FJ
support).
Added built-in ZigBee protocol configuration file generation for the PIC18F87J10.
Updated MiWi configuration file generation to be compatible with the v1.0 release.
Includes support for PIC18 and 16-bit PIC microcontrollers.
Added the ability to decrypt secure ZigBee and MiWi protocol messages (network key
and encryption method must selected by the user). NOTE: This feature is not available
in the demo and standard releases of the ZENA Wireless Network Analyzer software.
The enhanced version of the software may be purchased at www.MicrochipDirect.com for
a small fee.
Default output file directory and upper MAC address bytes are retained between
sessions.
The Network Traffic Monitor window may be reduced to a toolbar.
Added APS-level filtering of ZigBee protocol messages.
Version 1.3 includes the following changes/enhancements from v1.1:
Additional parameter generation for compatibility with v1.0-3.6 of the Microchip Stack for
the ZigBee Protocol.
MiWi configuration file generation added.
Updated MiWi network traffic analysis.
Corrected data export problem.

Version 1.1 includes the following changes/enhancements from v1.0:

Microchip MRF24J40 and UBEC UZ2400 transceiver support added. The Microchip
MRF24J40 is the default transceiver.
Zero length data packets shown correctly in the NCD window.
ZigBee Protocol capability information, power descriptor, and node descriptor
generation corrected.
Preliminary MiWi protocol support
