Re-Registration for the Academic Year 2015-16

Dear Student,
Greetings from UPES!!
The Academic Year 2015-16 for senior students will commence w.e.f. 3 rd August 2015.
As per the University rules all students are required to report in person at the beginning of each Semester for
Re-Registration. Accordingly, the dates of Re-registration for the new Semester are attached as an annexure.
Kindly note that all the students are required to report for Re-registration for the Academic Year 2015-16
at Bidholi Campus on the date mentioned against their courses. Students Re-registering should present
themselves at the registration desk in the Universitys prescribed uniform.
The Student`s Re-Registration marks the commencement of the Semester. Kindly ensure that your are present
for Re-registration on the scheduled date. The Academic Session will commence from the Re-registration date
and, there shall be no relaxation in attendance requirement for late registrants. Students are expected to
adhere to the attendance norms, set by the University which are provided in the Student Bulletin.
Students are expected to be fully involved in their Academic Programme from the Day-1 (i.e. day of ReRegistration). Not being present in the Campus on the appointed date of Re-Registration would adversely affect
the Academic Learning and progress of the students as he/she would miss the instructions for assignments
which will be given to each student along with the Re-Registration and will have to be submitted to their
respective faculty from the next day onwards.
Students not reporting for registration on the due date shall in addition to losing attendance and internal
assessment marks will have to pay the following late fees :
(i) Late registration fine @ Rs. 500 per day up to a maximum of 3 working days.
(ii) Late registration fine @ Rs. 1000 per day for the next 2 working days.
(iii) Late registration fine of Rs.5000/- from 6th to 12th working days.
(iii) Name struck off from the rolls of the University after this date.
Kindly adhere to the Re-registration schedule to avoid the late fee and loss of attendance etc.
You are also requested to take careful note of the attendance and discipline related matters as given in this
letter, Student Bulletin and as notified by the university.
1.

ATTENDANCE:
The importance of attendance has been highlighted in several communications. Students find themselves
debarred from various exams and invite other penalties if they are not careful about the attendance. It must
be pointed out that the attendance is given only if the student is physically present in the class room.
Absence from the Class Room on any account (on leave, on medical ground, on working with /
participating in the functions etc.) would mean loss of attendance. Students are advised in their
own interest to ensure that they must aim for 100% attendance, but in any case the attendance
should not below 75%.
Shortage of attendance debars the student from appearing for the exam and thereby affects the overall
academic performance of the student.

It is therefore imperative that, students come to campus on the scheduled date(s), attend classes as
per the Academic Calendar and not miss/bunk classes.
2. DISCIPLINE:
2.1 UPES has prescribed a dress code for all students. It is expected that student observe
this dress code from the very first day they come to the campus. It is expected that the
students present themselves in their best to faculty/visitors when they are in the
campus. Student may note that no leniency will be shown in allowing them to
enter the campus unless they are in the proper dress code. The loss of attendance
and the resulting loss of academic learning would obviously be the penalty students
attract and therefore students are advised in their own interest to observe dress
code.
2.2 Acts of Indiscipline (within and outside the campus): It is expected that students
conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate and not attract any disciplinary
action for misconduct. We expect our students to be valuable citizens of the
country and hence they are required to be disciplined in and outside the campus.
Driving Motorbikes at high speeds and without proper safety guards, helmets etc.
indulging in horse play, bunking classes, not being respectful to faculty, staff and fellow
students, indulging in ragging and harassment of fellow students and juniors, defacing
the walls or destroying books, laboratory equipments, IT systems and other property in
the campus; indulging or conniving in thefts and any other act will lead to severe
disciplinary action and must be avoided at all costs. There have been serious accidents
involving our students on motorbikes. Students are advised to avoid driving motorbikes
and take extra careful in case they do indeed drive them. We will be constrained to the
use of 2 wheelers / bikes by students who do not take all safety measures or driving
rash, when brought to our notice.
2.3 Student`s conflicts / clashes: Students are advised to take special care to avoid
getting involved in any kind of violence and devote their energies towards their
academic performance and overall development. Any involvement with group
indiscipline could make a student liable for severe penalty including rustication /
expulsion.
I have highlighted the above points only to bring home to our students the seriousness
which these issues deserve. There are, invariably, spates of representation pleadings
and requests whenever students find himself / themselves debarred from exam or any
other penal action been taken by Disciplinary Committee. All this would not be
necessary if students take care to avoid getting involved in such incidences. I hope
students will take note the advice given in this letter and ensure that their conduct is in
full conformity with the requirements spelt out in Student Bulletin and various notices
from time to time.
I am confident that all students would put their best foot forward and ensure they focus
on academic and extra curricular activities so that they emerge from this University with
flying colors and prove themselves to be the worthy citizens of this country and the
globe.
Looking forward to welcoming all students for the forth coming new semester and
wishing that all have a very fruitful academic term
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
