ON HEARING A FIRE ALARM BELL

Each one of us is responsible for

her/his own safety as well as that of

others.
There are no false alarms so always
proceed to assembly points any time
the bell sounds.

FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES

As soon as the bell sounds:
Put out electrical lights, electrical
appliances and turn off any gas
mains before leaving class room/
rooms.
Close windows
Personal belongings are to be left
behind.

FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES

Teachers pick up class

attendance and lead the class out
of room. Prefects help remind
teachers of this.

Students leave room

(without any panic) in
single file and in
silence.
Last person out of room
closes door behind her.

FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES

Class Prefect stays in front of the row and sub- prefect /
helper at end of row, to be prepared and trained for when
students are alone during evacuation.
Once you are out of the classroom / rooms do not go back
for any reason. Keep going on to the Assembly Point.
If you have forgotten to take the Attendance sheet with
you, the helpers at each assembly point will have extra
sheets for you to use.

FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES

Proceed to assembly point
Do not walk on ring road. Use
pavements only. In case
of real emergencies, roads will
be used by traffic.
Find class number and stay in
file.
Students are to remain standing
up in a row.
No sitting on steps or
pavements just in case further
evacuation is needed

AT ASSEMBLY POINTS

Each class should be accompanied by a teacher . Teachers with no

class or who had no lessons are kindly asked to help unaccompanied
classes and be in charge of students.
Teacher marks class attendance .
Give names of missing students to
Assistant Heads/ Health Safety teachers/
Helpers, in charge of area. If you or other students
know where the missing person was before the bell
sounded please tell inform those in charge.
DO NOT go back to search for them yourself.
Be as quiet as possible to hear important orders about changes or
assembly points that might be changed as need arises.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING OPTION LESSONS

Students come from mixed classes therefore procedures
are slightly different.
Lead the way out of class according to Special class
evacuation plan and route signs along corridors and go to
nearest assembly point.
All students should know where their class assembly
point is.
Take all your students with you. Walk to your left side
along ring road ( USE pavement ). On arriving at each
assembly point leave students at their predestined class
point even if there is no teacher at their point.

Option Groups
Continue in this way till all students have found their
respective classes at respective assembly points.
Either stay with last class or if there is already another
teacher with class, please find another class that is
without a teacher and be responsible for them.
Remember no class should be left without a teacher.

Fire Drill Procedures

WE NEED YOUR CO-OPERATION FOR THE FIRE DRILL TO BE

A SUCCESS.

We would appreciate it if teachers without students

check if any classes or students are alone and take
charge of them until necessary.
An attendance of all staff members including any student
teachers, clerical and minor staff will be taken to ensure
everyone is safely out of the premises. If visitors are in
school on the day they have to be included as well.
Physically impaired Students will be attended
to by a person in charge of them.

Fire Drill Procedures

No one is to enter the building or return to a room once
evacuation has started. Not even to help people who are
trapped inside.
Only Firemen are equipped to do so successfully.
It is only when Civil Protection Department personnel tell us it
is safe to enter the premises that we can do so.
In case of Fire Drills, Head of School or Assistant Heads will
decide when it is best to enter the building.

PLEASE ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT

No Boards, empty boxes or other objects are to be placed
in front of Fire Equipment, Alarm bells, Evacuation plans
and Fire Exit Doors. They are required to be left clear at
all times.

If you have queries you can contact H&S

teachers.

Please do report any:

Accident happening at school whether the
injured person is a member of staff or student
health and safety hazards in written form on
appropriate hazard report forms (e.g.
electrical, fall hazard)
health problems or issues in class as a whole
or individual students( e.g. head lice; diabetes
or other conditions)
 Suspected infectious diseases
