Prison Inmates 2
The reason of my research was to observe the population of the prisons and jails. How many of
the inmates are males and how many are females. Two of the graphs show how old the inmates are and
how many inmates that is on death row that was married, never been married, and that is divorced. In
my research I found out every year, in the United States, that the percentage of inmates increases for
both man and women. White male are also the leading people that is incarcerated. Males ages 35 to 54
are more likely to be sentence to death before a female the same age is.

I. Descriptive Discussion
a. Figure 1 display the different races and number of men and women that
was in jail from 2000 to 2007 in the United States. Whites shared the larger
amount of people in jail with 2007 been the highest with about 338,200
inmates. Blacks are the second on the chart with 301,700 inmates that year.
Ranking under the Blacks are the Hispanic race with about 125,500 inmates.
Others have the least amount of 13,900 inmates.
II. Interpretive Discussion
a. All case from figure 1 is reported, but this does not include child and teens
that are in jail. From 2000 to 2004 the percentage jump very highly, white
jump from 260,500 to 317,400 that was the highest over the five years.
Blacks went from 256,000 to 275,400 that are not anywhere near as much
as the whites jump. Others over the five years remained the lowest out of
the other three races.

I. Descriptive Discussion
a. Figure 2 you will see a column chart that represents a segment from 1994 to
1997 regarding gender. In this case males have the higher percentage of
inmates. In 1994 there was 4,377,400 males incarcerated and 763,900
female incarcerated, that’s a big difference. Every year the number of
males and females increased greatly.
II. Interpretive Discussion
a. According to the column chart adult males are mostly likely to go to prison
then adult females are. As you can see from the first chart that whites are
the primary race that is incarcerated, therefore white adult males are the
leading inmates in prisons. Blacks are the second leading race that is
incarcerated.

I. Descriptive Discussion
a. Figure 3 is a pie chart that shows what percentage of inmates that is sentence to
death, are married, never been married and which ones are divorced. The least
inmates that are sentence to death are the person that is married with 20%.
Divorced was the second highest percentage of 32%. 48% of the people sentence to
death has never been married before.
II. Interpretive Discussion
a. People that is sentence to death most likely never been married before that mean
some of them did have a family, they don’t have to think about other they was just
thinking about themselves and not thinking about the people that they will be hurting at
the time of the crime. All of this could be stop only if people start taking time and think
about what they are doing before it happen.

I. Descriptive Discussion
a. Figure 4 is a clustered cylinder chart that shows the numbers of the males
and females that were on death row in 2004. Only one person under the 20
years of age was sentence to death that year, but none the year before or
none the two years after that. 95 men and women 24 years and younger
were on death row that year. The highest was around middle age 35 to 54,
1,977 people were sentence to death row.
II. Interpretive Discussion
a. To me it was unbelievable that even one child under 20 years old was on
death row. But however it is possible for it to happen. There are 345 people
men and women 55 and older on death row.

The reason of the graphs used in the research would give the readers a visual what they read
and a better understanding. Graphs also help picture the numbers better, seeing it then just reading or
hearing it. The topic of adult males and females that was in prison, jail, or on death row was the main
focus that was reported from 1994 to 2007. The topic was broken up into four different parts; inmates
that are in jail by race, the white race from 2000 to 2007 had the most people in jail or in prison then
was follow by the Black race then Hispanics and others was the least that goes to jail in the United
States, Second graph is the number difference between men and women that is incarcerated and it was
find that men go to jail or prison more women do; the parentage of people the is on death row that was
married, never been married and them that was divorce, it is said that people that never been married
would more likely be on death row, then it was people that is divorce is second, and people married
would less likely be sentence to death; and the last graph is ages of the teens and adults that is on death
row. With all the numbers in this report it showed that men are more likely to go to jail or prison before
a woman is. A white man is more likely to go to jail before a black men is in jail or prison. A person
without a family or never been married would do something to get themselves sentence to death.
