Ojos Negros

Tango: D'Arienzo departed from other

orchestras of the golden age by returning
to the strong driving staccato dance rhythm
of the early age of tango.

A selection of Vals

Tango: ''The Troilo Sound,' was very

unique - it combines a quick distinct rythm
(staccato) with slower more subtle musical
interludes (legato figures) alowing the
dancers to pause for slow embellishments.

Two modern tangos and a Carlos Gardel

classic: The Tango of Nefeli is very popular
tango, sung by Susanna Canessa an
Italian folk singer, who sings a wide variety
of music. This is her only tango from her
album Nefeli. "The tango of Nefeli" is sung
in Greek. Nefeli is the Greek goddess of
the clouds.

Three milongas

Tangos: Salgn's music has changes in

speed from one section to another, there
are dramatic pauses, and the piano is quite
dominant. There are whole phrases where
the violins sweep along with no beats being
marked out by other instruments, which
can be a good moment to stop 'walking' in
the dance and do some kind of flourish, or
just pause.

Il tango di Nefeli

Tangos: Pugliese changes speed. The

orchestra gets to the end of a melody and
will have a drawn out pause, and then
when they start the next melody, the tempo
can be faster or slower than before.
Sometimes the rhythm is driving and
relentless with a clear beat, and other times
it's slow and smooth and languid.

Three milongas

Tangos: Julio Sosa was the "Carlos

Gardel" of Uraguay. He was the last tango
singer to attract crowds. He died in a sports
car crash in 1964.
