HaTelit C40/17
What is HaTelit C 40/17
Purpose

Flexible reinforcement grid out of

high modulus Polyester with a
mesh size of 4 cm

Extension of the service intervals

Ultralight non-woven serves as

installation aid
( Melting point PP at 150C)

Decrease of the maintenance costs

Increase the service life of a road

Grid is heat resistant up to 200C

Grid and non-woven are bituminous
coated (excellent interlayer bonding)

HaTelit Installation
Preparation of the surface

Installation of HaTelit

Conditions for an optimum interlayer bond must be given.

1. Preparation of the surface

HaTelit always has to be placed between two

asphalt layers (levelling asphalt layer)!

2. Spraying of bitumen emulsion

3. Applying / Unrolling HaTelit

The base must be dry and clean

4. Asphalt installation

Large cracks and potholes have to be filled

Vertical movements must be corrected

Why Polyester?

3. Polyester has a high resistance against

2. Polyester is flexible, so it accommodates

Why Polyester?

Airport Salgado Filho, Porto Alegre - Brazil

Conclusion:
The mechanical properties of Polyester match
very well to the characteristics of asphalt!

This leads to:

Very low internal stresses
Good bond of the material to the
surrounding asphalt
Polyester does not act as a foreign material

Background:

In January 2002 the Taxiway of a commercial

aircraft maintenance area had to be rehabilitated

38

38

25 cm

High traffic volume,

e.g. Boeing 777 with a weight of 250 t

Existing pavement was made of concrete slabs

A possible rehabilitation method would have been

the installation of thick new asphalt layers
BUT:
A plain asphalt layer cannot prevent the propagation
(reflection) of the expansion joints
