Abstract

The aim of course is present recent results regarding Levi-flat hypersurfaces in complex
spaces and the connections to the study of holomorphic foliations. Levi-flat hypersurfaces
in complex manifolds was studied by H. Cartan and H. Grauert and in our days problems
on Levi-flat hypersurfaces both locally and globally has been active lately. The target
audience will be researchers and graduate students interested in singularities in several
complex variables and holomorphic foliation theory. Smooth Levi-flat hypersurfaces are
real hypersurfaces of Cn that are locally foliated by complex hypersurfaces. These are
the hypersurfaces that are pseudoconvex from both sides. In the real-analytic case at
the nonsingular points, there are no biholomorphic invariants by a theorem of Cartan.
Furthermore the foliation locally extends to a holomorphic foliation of a neighbourhood.
The situation becomes much more complicated either when one considers singularities,
or when we consider the global situation. For a singular hypersurface, the foliation does
not extend in general unless the singularity is small. Under certain conditions it is known
that the foliation extends to a holomorphic web, even for large singularities.
When we consider Levi-flat hypersurfaces globally in projective spaces, it is known
that they must be singular when the dimension is 3 or more by a theorem of Lins-Neto.
Chows theorem says that a complex subvariety of projective space is algebraic. A Levi-flat
analogue of such a theorem does not hold in general, without additional hypothesis.
