Work History 1975 to Present.

In 1976 January I started work for Jack Woodwood as a first year Apprentice and stayed that way for almost
two years with out getting signed up. A cheap form of labour as I did not appreciate the reference.
I started work for Barry Great on October 1977 as a labourer it was quite satisfying to know that I was valued
as a carpenter as Barry in general conversation I had the goods and every job that was big enough I was
working as a carpenter. The only reason for not getting signed up was there wasn’t enough work so I’d be
working on and off. My experience was lifted ten fold as Barry and Warren never spared any knowledge they
had as they said if you don’t know how to do the job at a level we expect it to be done, well you get the drift.
Barry educated me in all the fields. Setting out, strip footing’s, bridging beams, raft slabs, starter bars for block
work, walls and columns, suspended mezzanine floors and decks, cyclone tie down with rod, strap and steel
gussets, steel structures, lay out trusses, pitch roof’s, construct hips, valleys, ridges, Dutch gables, gables,
skillions and apron water shedding valleys. All finishing such as jambs, reveals, architrave, skirting, window
and door installation. In all areas domestic, industrial and commercial.
I went to Brisbane in 1979 November started work for O’Brien Glass, installing commercial, domestic and
Industrial windows and doors. They were so happy with my work they offered an Apprenticeship as a Glass
Beveller, got twelve months off the start for the period of time I worked for the company. My wife at the time
was sick and had to go back to Home Hill, so I had to go back with her to be supportive, I left July 1982.
I worked in Home Hill at the rice Mill as a maintence carpenter for all structural and building projects
concerned with the mill, there wasn’t a great amount of accomplishing work to write home about, left after
getting a good job with Leighton Contractor in 1985.
I worked for Leighton Construction august 1985; I started as a concrete finisher on the Burdekin Dam project
and was quickly promoted to a leading hand for a short period. I was given a crew after a six month period as
they were sacking people left right and centre, as a lot of personnel didn’t know what they were doing. While I
was a Forman my crew got the largest amount of cubic metres vibrated and placed in a eight hour period
twice. I also had the spillway cap as part of my contract over a sixteen week period. There were other
contracts that I took on, on weekends, such as setting up pump station’s to keep up the water curing on the
dam wall. Stripping out the galleries with Armco linings that was a tricky task, as we had to remove all the
Armco up the stair access at either end of the wall. I finished with Leighton’s July 1987. With a job offer to go
.

to Bougainville New Ginnie, that was when the first uprising started so I didn’t get to go.
I started work for Leighton Construction in Mt. Magnet November 1987, in the camp setup crew and worked
on a number of sites which included the pill bra, port headland, Broome, hells gate, big Bell and back to Mt.
Magnet, where they offered a explosive powder monkey’s, Assistant dirt boss job the money was to good to
knock back. The job in tailed set out of drill holes with a recorded mapping that had to be presented to
western mining Superintendent before each blast could go ahead, planing of excavation works, haul road
construction and maintenance, supervise the mine operations in conjunction with Stan Watchoon continued
on in that roll for six months then got a job offer from a builder to work as a roof carpenter.
I started working for Wrights Construction in October 1988 the work was so good I worked for them until I
came back to
Queensland in 1991. pitching roof’s was a whole different ball game over there as all the roof’s were pitched
with mainly
Jarrah, but there was hanging beams, strutting beams, under purlins, struts, king post and so on I still believe
that was the best experience I have had to date I learnt so much and I have so much to thank them for as I
use that experience every day in my profession.
I started work for Penner Construction July 1991 on the Doomadgee water reservoir that job lasted for twelve
weeks, there was not much to talk about it was only formwork, there was nothing technical about that job.

I started work for Civil Marine Construction October 1991, rail bridges, re instatement of terrain under and
around detailed earth works. My job was formwork which included, head stocks, abutments, thrust blocks,
kerbs and bollards.
I started work for Watcon Construction’s in July 1992 on the Kelso state primary school, the roof was already
on when I started on the job. I started on the awnings around the out side of the building, then steel
framing external cladding, huff doors, partition screen walls demountable and second fix work till
completion. I started work on accommodation at the John Flynn College at James Cook University
September 1992 for the same builder. Lay out trusses batterns out and extended outriggers for
gables, fascias, barges and soffits. Hanging doors and first and second fix fitted all the fixtures in the
rest of the units.
I started work for Civil Marine Construction march 1993 on a pump station on the Burdekin river at
home hill, set out pipe lines from the pump station up the river bank, at the particular invert level that
was called for on the day. Formed up the pump station and placed and finished the concrete, also
plastered up the joints in the pipe line. I stated work for Watcon Construction June 1993 on brick
vernier housing commission housing in ban field drive and Mango Avenue. The unites at ban field
lane were a bit of a problem as all the openings in the frame weren’t set on brick work so it was my
job to bring them back to brick work, the tiles were already on the roof’s. fixed batterns to common
parapet walls, first fixed, second fixed and did the hit list to the clerk of works satisfaction. Then over
to Mango Avenue the two storey brick vernier units, finials, fascias, soffits, first fix widows and
doors. Second fix with the fit out.
I started work for Aboriginal Affairs February 1994 doing renovation work to all houses that came up
for tender which had mostly any thing wrong kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, joists, bearers, one
house was in some much disrepair we had two land cruisers and one tractor to rack it back so it
could be braced and let go. . The work went on till we didn’t win any tenders.
I started work for Cox Plastering November 1994, doing all framing for suspended ceilings, partition
walls, soffits and second fix work.
I started work for CBQueensland June 1995 as I was stole from Cox plastering by Martine Brooks
as he was impressed with my work and needed Carpenters for a project after this villa Vincent aged
care facility. It was the first time in my life where I worked on a job for one person one day, then the
next come back to the same job the next day working for the Builder and getting into supervising the
same people I was working with the previous day. I worked for CBQueensland on Villa Vincent,
Laverack Barracks rifle range, Good Shepard and Queensland Correctional facility.
1996 June started work with Civil Marine, Engineering contractors whom I worked for on other
occasion’s, the Clair pump station doing form work and finishing the concrete the job lasted six
months. The pump station was for an irrigation system in the Burdekin area which was good for I
had a lot of experience with radiuses and angles. With the added factor of flows and volumes, which
was a challenge to say the least, but a rewarding sense of achievement to see the final product and in
full operation.
1997 April started work at Cannington lead, silver and zinc mine, processing plant. Ball mills, set
track feed rails, bung walls, retain liquid spills, form and poured the base of the lift shaft, then latter
on form and poured the tower 65 metres up, then in February 1998 under ground set up the crusher
cathedral area 560 level, power station, vertical dam, conveyer loaders, ceiling hangers (back
hangers) for suspended conveyors.
1999 August picked up with a builder Steve Jordan doing small jobs, with a lot of weekend work and
the provisor that we work together for a long time myself doing a lot of quantity surveying, safety
planning, estimating materials and labour, drawing of all structures and carpentry/joinery.
1999 August picked up where I left off with working for house holders, doing carpentry work, also
working in with a cabinet maker installing kitchens and cabinets.
1999 October started work for Coombs and Barry Queensland on a warehouse refurbishment. Which
was a challenge in it’s self, there was surge to be reinstated drainage to be rerouted. Security to be
removed and installed both physical and electrical. New offices and show rooms, with devote
viewing windows and a whole lot of other invasion of privacy things.
Still with CBQ. I worked on the administration at the Townsville port authority, foundations,
columns, bracing walls, pitch a trussed roof, through to the hand over. Then I was asked to run the
demolition and construction of a mentally aged care unit in eventide aged home. That was a very
rewarding job in both achievement and accomplishment. I have three awards for my carpentry and
set out of an old building, from Master Builders, for that job alone.

The Deraign police station was the next job, on the horizon it was a slab on ground steel framed construction,
walls and roof with walk ways.
2000 started work with CDProjects Darrell Dunn. Documenting and quoting commercial and resort fit outs for
a period of time until I had to set up, external cladding cutting and fixing was a new application in the
refurbishment, as the architect’s new concept of tilt up panels and steel frame systems and a mass of design
and construct to get the right out come.
2001 September worked for Javelin Construction’s Barry Gasporenie, on handrails and balustrade, with
structural repairs to the veranda beams and post due to wood rote lack of paint excavated. The main access
road in the port to lay a pipe line for drainage on the next part of the job. Then worked on a MIM water
catchment sump for all site water filtration system, before letting the excess out into the open water. Then
worked on the Perjingo Mining operation, mezzanine deck with steel joists. ply decking. office space and a
store room under. Concreted spoon drains for drainage systems and foundations for structures. Did an oil
separation and wash bays for machinery up from the under ground.
2002 march second fix work for a large number of builders and private customers.

for decking on suspended decks, set out stairs for unit access.

doors and escape door lock releases.
2003 October started with Townsville Property Services Mike McGrath, building a house on the hill. timber
construction pine with a purlin roof frame in between double rafters lying on wall frames, to give the affect of
flat roof.
2003 December started with CBQueensland, as a foreman to complete the new RSPCA refuge, for the
Townsville District. There was a lot of catch up work to be done as the previous foreman, missed a lot first
time round, miss comprehended instructions from the architect and just negligible in a lot of cases. but I
brought it in a few dollars over budget. Worked on the river side Tavern on the foundations, columns, bearers,
joists and decking. The out side of the deck was the boundary line for the pub block. Erected feature
balustrade to the front of the pub and other features through out.
2004 august started with Cairns Carpentry. framing and cladding, hanging doors, morticing fitting locks,

houses over and concreting stumps in to level.

boards thrown in. columns on a few jobs but mainly stairs on all the jobs.

form work, stick building all the bases of the coming out of the ground work.
2008 April started work for wide form Jason Edwards. stairs and decks.

2008 June started work on Magnetic Island for Ronald Robinson doing foundations for a suspended
walk way.
2008 august Steve Jordan working on small jobs with the public, much more rewarding. I have been
working with Steve for all these years it’s just he doesn’t get enough work to keep going so this is
why I’m getting this done, it was decided between Steve and myself that I should do this now, so I
can have a chance at getting a better work environment and nest egg for it’s not a great work ecology
at the moment with the weather and business.

Quantity surveying, costing of materials and labour, from the subgrade through to the hand
over or final inspection, I know I have an eye for detail from the drawing to the site, for I’m not out
on my pricing, when job is complete if I lost it by tender, my price is the one that hits the mark. I
don’t apply for work I’m not capable of doing or I’m not qualified to do for it’s a complete waist of
time not to mention cost to a company. I’m in the business to make money for the employer of the
day.
