SP2andSP3),WindowsServer2003(allSPs),WindowsVista32and64bit(SP1also),Window7(allvariants).Some
alsosaythatitworksonWindowsServer2008too.
IfusedonusersthathaveEFSencryptedfiles,andthesystemisXPorVista,allencryptedfilesforthatuserwillbe
UNREADABLE!andcannotberecoveredunlessyouremembertheoldpasswordagain.Ifyoudon'tknowifyouhave
encryptedfilesornot,youmostlikelydon'thavethem(exceptmaybeoncorporatesystems).
BootyourcomputerwithHiren'sBootCDandfollowthestepsbelowforresettingyourpassword:

1.Enter"OfflineNT/2000/XP/Vista/7PasswordChanger"
WithUp&DownkeysselectOffline'NT/2000/XP/Vista/7PasswordChanger'andpressEnter.

2.Waitfor"OfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditor"toLoad
Onthescreenbelow,you'llseeisseverallinesoftextthatquicklyrundownthescreen.Youdon'tneedtodoanything
here.Waitfor"OfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditor"toload.

1.Select"NT/2000/XP/Vista/7
PasswordChanger"

3.ChoosetheCorrectHardDrivePartition
ThisstepintheOfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditorprocessistoselectthepartitionthatcontainstheWindows
installationthatyouwanttodeleteapasswordfrom.
Manycomputershaveasingleoperatingsysteminstalledonasinglepartitiononasingleharddrive,makingthisavery
easychoice.
Ifthat'sthecaseforyou,justpressENTERtoacceptthedefaultpartition.Otherwise,typethenumbercorrespondingto
thecorrectpartitionfromtheCandidateWindowspartitionsfoundlistandthenpressENTER.

Ifmorethanonepartitionislistedandyou'renotsurewhichonetopick,chancesarethelargerpartitionisthe
onewithWindowsinstalled.

EveryWindows7PCwillhavemorethanonepartitionlisted.

4.ConfirmtheWindowsRegistryPath
OfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditornowneedstoknowtheexactlocationoftheWindowsRegistry.Exceptinthe
rarestofoccasions,thedefaultlocationwillbethecorrectone.
JustPressENTERtoacceptthedefaultWindowsRegistrypathwithoutwritinganythingelse.

TheOfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditortoolcanperformvariousfunctionsasidefromresetting
passwordsbutsincethat'sthefocusofthisparticularwalkthrough,that'sallwe'lldiscuss.

6.ChoosetheEditUserDataandPasswordsOption
Nowthattheregistryisloadedandavailabletotheprogram,OfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditorneedstoknow
exactlywhatyouwanttodo.
PressENTERtoacceptthedefaultchoiceofEdituserdataandpasswords.
Thiswillloadthenecessaryoptionsfortheactualpasswordreset.

user.
Ifthedefaultuseristheuseryou'dliketoremovethepasswordfrom,simplypressENTER.Otherwise,enterthe
usernameandthenpressENTER.

Atthebottomofthescreenyou'llseetheUserEditMenuwithseveraloptionstochoosefrom.

OfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditorshowssomeinterestinginformationabouttheusernameyouentered
inthelaststepthefullname,whatgroupstheuserbelongsto,howmanyfailedloginattemptshavetaken
place,howmanytotalloginshavebeencompleted,andmore.

Ifyouseeacheckinthe"Passwdnotreq."box,thismeansthatapasswordisnotarequirementforthis
particularuser.ItdoesnotmeanthatapasswordisnotrequiredtoaccesstheaccountinWindows.Inother
words,it'ssayingthatitispossibletoerasethisuser'spassword.

passwordwassuccessfullyreset.Youshouldstillbeabletoseetheconfirmationonthescreenatthispoint.
RemoveHiren'sBootCDfromyourCD/DVDdriveandthenmanuallyresetyourcomputer.
Inthenextstep,you'llfinallygettologontoWindowswithoutenteringapassword!
NowthatyourpasswordhasbeenremovedusingOfflineNTPassword&RegistryEditor,nopasswordisrequiredto
logontoWindows.
Ifyouaretheonlyuseronyourcomputer,Windowswillbootallthewaytothedesktoponthenextrebootandwill

enterWindowsautomatically.
Havingasecurepasswordisimportantsopleasedon'tcontinuetouseWindowswithoutone.Assoonasyou'vegained
accesstoyourcomputeragain,configureanewpasswordoneyoucanrememberalittleeasier!
