ear Friends in Christ,

Over the next few months I invite you to join me in

participating in a program titled The Discovery Series: A Christian
Journey. Like our lives, careers and relationships, our spiritual growth is
also a journey. It is one that can lead in many directions. The course is
intended to help everyone as they begin their own personal journey
in a lifelong relationship with God. You may participate in all the
session or simply those that are of most interest to you or best fit your
schedule.

INSIDE

We will begin on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 PM with a look at

Episcopal Worship. The focus of this session will be on the history,
traditions and unique practices of the Episcopal Church. Participants
will explore who ministers are, the Sacraments, rites and ceremonies of
the Church, The Book of Common Prayer and Episcopal Church
governance. The following Sunday, in place of a sermon, we will offer
an Instructed Eucharist.

Other sessions to be scheduled in the months to come include: A Journey of Faith with a focus on
understanding the basics of Christianity not only what we believe, but why we believe and how we
enter the community of faith through Baptism. You will have an opportunity to reflect on your own
spiritual journey, the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, the Creeds and the Baptismal
Covenant. We will continue with A Path to Spiritual Maturity and will focus on a rule of life and explaining
how our faith is a living, growing part of us that changes through our experiences. We will explore our
Spiritual Gifts, gaining a perspective for how God wants us to live our lives looking at our God-given
talents, our personality and our experiences. We will reflect on how to use our gifts for ministry. Finally, we
will study the Great Commission Focus: learning how we reach others with Gods good news.
Participants will experience a variety of exercises designed to help recognize, approach and
communicate with those seeking a closer relationship with God. We will address questions such as What
is Mission? How do we spread the Good News? What is my Lifes Mission?

Color Me Calm

Have you ever watched children color in their

favorite coloring books? They pick out colors, one
at a time, marking the page, tracing lines, slowly
filling in the picture, bringing it to life. Theyre
often so peaceful and at ease. Why
cant adults have that too?
It turns out, they can, and they
should! Adult coloring books are
rising in popularity as stressed out
folks find peace of mind inside the
lines. The slow, deliberate coloring
of shapes and pictures involves
both logic and creativity, which in
turn induces relaxation by repressing
the activity of the amygdala, a part
of the brain that controls stressrelated emotions. Taking time to
unwind creatively has the potential
to reduce stress by channeling it into the colors
on a page.
The trend of adult coloring books has taken off,
especially in the United Kingdom and France,
where the books are bestsellers. The movement is
also making its way across the pond, as more
and more coloring books are creeping their way

up bestsellers lists. The books range from the

elaborate Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt
and Coloring Book by Johanna Basford to the
whimsical The Mindfulness Coloring Book: AntiStress Art Therapy for Busy People
by Emma Farrarons, to the chance
to color celebrities in illustrator Mel
Simone Elliots books, Colour Me
Good.
Art therapy has often taken the
form of crafts, music, or free-form
drawing, but theres something to
be said to coloring inside the lines.
Simply speaking, the act of
concentrating on coloring a design
greatly reduces your focus on
anything worrisome. Just think: as a
kid, were you ever worried about
anything while you colored? Of course not!
Especially in this digital age, its helpful to take
your eyes off the screen and zone out into a
beautiful lined canvas of a garden, a country
scene, or even a whimsical cat, just waiting to be
splashed with color. And who doesnt love to
color?

An Ecumenical Service in recognition of Duanesburg 250th Anniversary will be held on September
20th from 3-5:00pm at the Florida Baptist Church. Additionally, the Duanesburg 250th Anniversary
Celebration is going to be held on September 26th. Planned events include:

Outreach Opportunities

Prayer Shawl Ministry:
There is an active prayer shawl ministry at Our
Lady of Fatima in Delanson. They make shawls for
those who are homebound or ill along with lap
blankets, hats, mittens and blankets for infants
who are being christened. They meet once a
month and there is plenty of yarn! If interested
please contact Lynn ORourke, Parish Life
Director, at 518-895-2788.

Our Lady of Fatima Food Pantry:

The food pantry, which serves up to 80 area
families, is in need of the following non perishable
food items:

Canned fruit

All Creatures Great and Small
All Things Bright and Beautiful is
a familiar hymn, set to a familiar tune
in both the 1940 Hymnal and the
new
1982
Hymnal,
with
the
exception that a Descant has been
added
to
the
1982
version.
Regardless to what way we may
choose to sing this hymn, the
message is the same. It is a
cherished
hymn
concerning
creation.
Each stanza presents a different
part of this wonderful creation and
the last one is:
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we may tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

God the Father created this

world and all that is in it. Each of us is
a part of this marvelous creation and

As Christians, we endeavor to
return these gifts to the Glory of
God. Because we are each unique,
so are our talents unique. There are
many areas in which to return our
gifts to God. Some are Altar Guild
work, Artistic as well as house
painting, Chalice bearer, Cooking
and baking, Cleaning and polishing,
Composing letters, messages or
music, Driving fellow parishioners to
services, Leadership, Organizing a
library, Participation in church
services such as Playing music,
Praying, Reading, or Singing, Also,
Using a computer, Visiting the shutins, Serving on the vestry or other
volunteer capacities.
Most of us are aware of what our
talents are and our limitations, but
since God moves in mysterious ways,

our limitations can and will become

boundless.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Let us give thanks to God for all His

gifts bestowed upon us. Thank God
for His Son Jesus Christ who lived the
perfect life and who died and was
resurrected for our salvation and
eternal life. Pray for all Bishops,
Priests, Deacons and Lay Leaders in
the Episcopal Diocese of Albany.
Pray for Christ Church, all who are ill
and those who are alone.
