MADHYAMIK ENGLISH SUGGESTION 2014
REPORT WRITING
There are three types of Reporting:
1. To report an event or incident.
2. To report a dialogue.
3. To report for newspaper.
Before writing a report we should remember some points which are as follows:
1.

Do follow all the points at first given in the question paper.

2.
Try to understand the meaning of the points given, and think how should be the
points be developed into sentences.
3.
Try to make at least one sentence for every point, and then make some extra
sentences based on the points if possible.
4.
Make an Appropriate title within three or four sentences so that it can attract
readers mind to read your report.
5.
Before starting your paragraph, write date and place. Date and place is always to be
presented in the starting of the report.

6.
Now, a report can be written remembering the above mentioned rules. A standard
report always shows an event and all the things regarding the event such as, reason for
the particular event, consequences, the time & place, etc.
7.
In case of writing a report on Accident, there can be included so many sentence
though the points are not appeared regarding that sentences in your question paper. If
you are writing any report on Accident then the point which you may include in addition
to the points given in your question paper are:
a.
Mention if there any compensation for the victims has been announced. Yu may
also indicate the amount also.
b.
Mention the activity of the local people and the influence of the accident on police
or any political leader.
Lastly I would like to say, the event and how it happened should be discussed in the
report so that it might impress the examiner who will check your copy.

West Bengal.

Write a report about bank robbery.

Students, remember there are some shortcuts for writing a report are as follows:
1.
Memorise one report about an accident. Then it will be very easy for you to write
any type of report about accident following the points.
2.
Same way, memorise reports on different events, and then it will be easy for you to
write any type of report on the basis of memorised one. But do follow the points in the
examination hall lest you should write anything else what has not been wanted in your
question paper.
PARAGRAPH WRITING

Some of the rules which should be remembered to write a paragraph are:


1.

Give a tile to the paragraph-Capitalised.

2.
Start a paragraph with an introductory sentence that expresses the subject matter of
discussion. Such a sentence is called key sentence.
3.

Write short and simple sentence to develop the points of the paragraph.

4.

A student should not omit any of the points given.

5.
Paragraph should be end with a suitable conclusion which may signify what about
the paragraph is.
Some important Paragraphs are prescribed for the students here:
1.

A Book Fair which you have visited recently.

2.

Water Pollution, Air Pollution, & Sound Pollution.

3.

Computer.

4.

A visit to a place of interest.

5.

Anniversary of Nazrul Islam.

6.

A move you have recently watched.

LETTER WRITING
Some important rules to be followed to write a letter are:
1.
The Heading (Senders address and date): Here the writers address and date are
given. These should be placed at the top right-hand corner of the paper.
2.
Greeting or Salutation: This is written on the left hand side, immediately above the
body of the letter. A comma is always put after the salutation.
3.

Body of the letter begins with a capital letter below the salutation.

4.
Subscription consists of certain forms of polite leave taking and the signature of
the writer.
5.
Superscription of Receivers Name and Address: this part consist of the name and
address of the person to whom the letter is written.

Some important letters are prescribed for the students are:


1.

Write a letter to your friend describing how you celebrated the festival, Durga Puja.

2.

Write a letter to your friend inviting him to your sisters marriage party.

3.

Write a letter to the editor about the bad condition of hospital in your locality.

4.

Write a letter to the editor about the hazards of traffic jam.

5.
Write a letter to Municipal chairman about the scarcity of drinking water in
your area.
