This is a little song I made up to teach my children some of the major events in the American colonies that led to the American Revolutionary War. It is sung to the tune of the "Gilligan's Island Theme".

Events Leading Up to the American Revolutionary War
(Sung to the tune of the Gilligans Island Theme
Just sit right back and youll hear a tale
Of 13 colonies Established in America In order to be free In order to be free
Through faith, hard work and courage
They prospered in the land They loved their homes in America But were loyal to England Were loyal to England
They fought with British soldiers
in the French and Indian War The British won the conflict And the French were there no more The French were there no more
The war was quite expensive
And England was in debt Parliament said tax the Colonists Lets see what we can get
Lets see what we can get
They passed a tax on sugar They controlled the currency They said the colonists must feed and house The British Troops for free The British troops for free
The worst one was the Stamp Act
A direct, internal tax Stamps were required on documents, Wills, papers, and contracts Wills, papers and contracts
What about our representation?
The Colonials all cried You cannot have taxation With no one to plead our side No one to plead our side
The colonists resisted
They knew what their rights should be Plans were made and groups were formed Like the Sons of Liberty The Sons of Liberty
The Stamp Act was repealed
But then the Parliament declared We can pass any law we want for you So colonists beware Yes colonists beware
The Townshend Act was then imposed
More taxes there would be On glass, lead, paint, and paper And of course a tax on tea They always taxed the tea
So the colonists agreed together
Theyd stop buying British goods The boycott would continue Till Parliament did what it should Theyd better do what they should
Tensions grew and conflicts
With the redcoats now were sure Five colonists died in a skirmish called
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre
Britain repealed the taxes
Except that one on tea Then said tea must be purchased from A British company A British company
Angry colonists decided to
Defy this last decree Chests were dumped into the Harbor During the Boston Tea Party The Boston Tea Party
King George was full of fury
Those Americans will pay! Well enforce the Acts Intolerable Till they do what we say Till they do what we say
The Colonies called a Congress
The First Continental
They demanded Britain stop these Acts And listen to the people Just listen to the people
Militias formed and men prepared
Men like brave Patrick Henry Who said hed rather face his death Then give up liberty He wanted to be free
The colonists hoped that they could find
A peaceful solution But the stubborn king was driving them Toward a revolution The American Revolution
All people need a government
That upholds their liberty We all have rights Given to us by our God And we want to be free
