Slavic Church of Christ

40 Years ofService
The Slavic Church of Christ in Baltimore, Marylandy is unique in her histor)^The ^vork began in
1960 with six adults and several children meeting
under the leadership of Brothof Paul Bajko. The
group first met in a private home and later in rented
facilities. On January 22, 1961, ten people became
chartered members.

Outgrowing the South Broadway facility, the con

gregation purchased the present building in March,
1972 for $42,000 plus $5,000 for repairs. All repairs
and renovations were completed by the members.
The building was dedicated on May 28, 1972, and

was debt fi-ee within ten months.

^
The Slavic congregation is alse unique b^use of
her unity.

The congregation consists of people of

more than ten different nationalities. Each Lord's

day, the gospel is preached and taught in English,

Russian, Ukrainian and/or Polish.

jpgpi'ratinn fn nil mnmhnrn At the present time there

is an average attendance of 275 each Lord's day.
Praise God for such an unique congregation that

Elders and Deacons ofthe Slavic Church

continues to preach the wonderful Gospel of Jesus

Christ which, although proclaimed in different lan
guages, is still "the power of God unto salvation to
everyone who believes!"

Adam J. Korenczuk began his ministry in June

of 1961, and continues to serve as minister and choir
director. The congregation purchased her first build

ing in November of 1961, located on South Broad

way, for $8,250 with $6,000 for renovations. This
was a big step for a small congregation but the
challenge was taken and sacrificial giving retired the
debt very quickly.

In June of 1962, the church incorporated-aeeefd-

ing to tho laws oi^e State of Maryland. With the

help of Polish Christian Ministries, the church began
her own program. On February 6, 1964, her first
radio broadcast aired.

For the next 26 years the

Gospel was preached in the Russian, Polish, and

Ukrainian languages^n alternate Sundays.
In January, 1970, the congregation became to

tally self-supporting, and began supporting missions

programs in Poland, South America, and the USA.
Later mission works in England, Russia, Belarus,
Ukraine, and Latvia were added. Out of a total
income of $106,000 in 1999, $52,000 was sent to
missionaries and mission works.
