KBIH primary activities include:

DVB-S/S2 services
SCPC links
Arclight shared mobile services
Linkstar Viasat shared services
i-Direct (eVolution and iNfinity) services
Gilat SSA services
Shiron Intersky services
Video and Audio turnaround services

along with COTS and proprietary built software for QoS and bandwidth control
allows KBIH to provide IP trunking services from 64 kbps to 200 Mbps and serve a
great number of SOHO users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Moreover, a key application of KBIH is VPN interconnection of the major Greek
banks offsite ATMs and international branches.
The ideal location of the teleport allows for visibility of the whole horizon, thus KBIH
is currently offering services (direct and collocated) on the following satellites:

Detailed Teleport Location

KBIH owns and operates the biggest independent (privately owned) satellite teleport
facility in the Balkans, in Lavrion, Greece. The Teleport was initially built in year 1999
and it was acquired by KBIH in year 2007. It has been being improved since then,
while the procedure of its development is ongoing and still continues. It offers access
to a series of satellites, reaching destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
Moreover, the teleport offers cost-effective equipment housing for switching,
multiplexing demultiplexing and IP connectivity.
The teleport is located in Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park (Latitude: 37.721
North, Longitude: 24.044 East, Magnetic declination: 3 37' EAS). It is located near
the city of Lavrion, Attica. Lavrion is located 38 kilometers away from the center of
Athens.
The antennas area is split into two plateaus with an altitude difference of 10 meters.
Four (4) containers for indoor equipment are also present (2 on each plateau).

Website: www.kbihellas.com,
e-mail: info@kbihellas.com

Between the two existing plateaus, there exists a building where electrical power
control, alarm and access controls and IFL cabling is concentrated. In this indoor
area, there also exists 1,000 sq. m. rack space facility (in addition and above to the
four (4) containers rack space.
IFL cabling between the antenna areas and the IP feed area (inside the offices &
control center area) is done through fiber links. IF-70 MHz, IF-140 MHz, L-band, Ku,
Ka-band and data connections are being implemented (according to each case
needs) between the antenna and the offices & control area. Thirty-two (32) fiber
connections are available between the two areas, allowing for 32 independent
projects installation. More fiber links can be easily laid between the two areas. The
path between the areas is owned and operated by KBIH.
Distance between the proposed indoor equipment area (existing building) and the
outdoor area is 36m.

Satellite visibility
The teleport area has been chosen so that there are no physical or artificial obstacles
towards the equatorial arc. In the figure below, south view of the teleport (taken
from Google Earth, with an altitude exaggeration multiplier of 2) is shown, together
with 120 degrees and 240 degrees azimuth lines. The only potential obstacle (a
hilltop at the southwest corner of the figure) is at elevation of 3 degrees. Thus, the
site has whole equatorial arc visibility of 3 degrees and above.

Rainfall
Greek climate is typically dry and sunny, with only two (2) actual winter months
(December and January). Lavrion (according to ITU-R) has a mean rain rate exceeding
27mm/h for 0.01% of the year. Below is a climate graph of the Attica region,
incorporating data of the last 20 years. According to the graph, mean daily rainfall in
the months of December and January slightly exceeds 60 mm, and is much less for
the rest of the months.

Figure: Attica climate graph

Geotechnical Environment
Although Greece is generally prone to earthquakes, the area of Lavrion is not
included in the areas requiring special measures. No major earthquakes (more than
4 degrees on the Richter scale) have been recorded in the past 100 years in the area.

Website: www.kbihellas.com,
e-mail: info@kbihellas.com

Thus, Lavrion is included in Zone-I (least dangerous) of anti-seismic design according

to Greek legislation. Moreover, the teleport area is rocky, a fact that ensures
maintenance of steady physical alignment and makes structures less subject to
damages in the rare case of an earthquake.

Inter facility Link

Interconnection between the outdoor and indoor area (waveguide, coax, power and
ground), is done in two ways: either overhead raceways or underground paths.
Distance between indoor equipment facilities and the outdoor antennas will be
below 40 m.
The Indoor cables has been installed in the cable trays under the computer room
floor
Different paths are being used for power cables, RF cables and data cables.

Support
The Teleport is staffed with experienced operations, utility, RF and Network
engineering personnel. Operations staff comprises of engineers that are available
24x7X365. The Teleport is constantly manned, while at least a second engineer is
always oncall. During working hours, the teleport is manned by at least 10
engineers, while total engineering and technical teleport personnel consist of fifteen
(15) people.
KBIH can offer handson any level maintenance support as needed 24X7X365. Typical
resolution times do not exceed 30 minutes, as per internal company procedures,
according to company certification. KBIH during the contract period will provide the
schedule maintenance activity in accordance with Manufacturer guideline and
cleaning and servicing of Gateway and BB equipment as per Manufacturers
guideline. During such activities, KBIH shall not prevent the service from continuing
to operate on the satellite.

Rack rows are 1m apart in distance allowing for front and rear access. More than 500
square meters of space are available for rack installation, thus, relevant provisions of
space can be made before the rack delivery and installation.
KBIH common practice is that racks are ventilated from above while cabling is done
under raised floor and entering the racks from bottom. However, any suitable
solution can be mutually agreed and implemented.

Power (AC/DC)
We provide all standard main voltage (low and high) such as 120/230 V AC 50 Hz and
48 V DC are being provided in all outdoor and indoor areas.

UPS
KBIH operates a fully redundant computergrade power system and guarantees
constant electrical power. Central power supply is through Greek Electrical Company
at 3 X 360 Amps input. Although utility feeder is single (as is the case in Greece),
power company substation is installed inside KBIH premises, ensuring immediate
support from Electrical Company.
A power generator of 450KVA with 600 liters petrol reserve offers 24 hours of
autonomy at the present Teleport equipment layout. For all outdoor and indoor RF
equipment there is a second 500 KVA generator 500KVA 1600 liters reserve of
petrol, capable to provide more than 50 hours of autonomy.
Current UPS layout consists of one 120 KVA with auto switch that provides 4 hours of
autonomy witch is used in the NOC area and two (2) 200 KVA UPSs (also
autoswitched) offering 4 hours of autonomy.
Surge protection and ground is, of course, provided on all equipment, while there is
lightning and surge protection on all antennas.
Tests and maintenance of generators are performed monthly according to written
procedures.

Adequate enclosure cooling and HVAC

Indoor area environment is being kept constantly at 20 degrees Celsius and 50%
humidity using advanced redundant (N+1) air conditioning equipment.

Terrestrial frequencies interference

There are no other teleports in the area neither exist any such plans. There are no
microwave links or other electromagnetic field sources. There is no industrial activity
in the area.

Internet access
KBIH Internet IP is at its Point-of-Presence in Med Nautilus interconnection exchange
center, in Athens, Greece.
Currently, KBIH is connected to PCCW Global and Seabone IP Backbone with a fully
redundant IP feed connectivity, while choice of new or alternate providers and
bandwidth upgrade requests can be promptly served.
The Med Nautilus is connected to the KBIH teleport through two (2) diverse STM-64
circuits (thus, offering full connectivity of multiple 10G interfaces). One is through
OTE (Greek PTT) infrastructure, the other being through alternative providers. Both
connections are dual-entrance and dual-homed at a full available capacity of STM-64
each.
